Really when were you going to let the Stanford Coach know this because he apparently has not gotten the memo. Stanford Roster 2014-15

this team and the new coach is well on its way to getting the Cardinal back on track.
As for the glory days, that will be next to impossible to repeat in this day and age. However, other than UCLA, USC, Georgia & Stanford, no other teams can even think about having had glory days.

Season opener today at 3pm pst. against UC Davis - if Fawcett and Hsu can make their presence felt on the court a return to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2012 isn't too far-fetched. Will be interesting to see if Goldstein can push these guys over the top from also-rans to someone that can strike a little fear into the L.A. domination.

I'm thinking you've got to have both Fawcett and Hsu in the top 4 along with Morrissey and Romanowicz.

Who has a feel for what they'll put on the court line-up wise this year?

Nolan Paige, Strobel, Tsodikov, and Stineman are the four with top six playing experience. I would expect two of them to be in the lineup as opposed to Lederman or Goldberg. Of those four Paige is the highest possibility. Maybe they'll play additional, non countable matches as they try to settle the lineup?

TD, I am going to try and make it to Taube today. I would think if PG plays by ability it would be Fawcett, Hsu, Morrissey, Roman, Paige, open. I am very excited to see what they look like. Seems like a solid lineup but the season can be long. Go Card

Stanford has added a live broadcast to their stream this year however it appears to have taken the place of the scoreboard which I don't see anywhere.

Fawcett, Morrissey, Romanowicz, Hsu, Paige, and Wilczynski is the singles lineup in order.

Morrissey, Hsu, and Wilczynski all pushed to a 3rd set. I think Fawcett, Romanowicz, and Paige all won in straights.

Wilczynski won 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 but Morrissey came up short losing 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Hsu is 4-4 in the 3rd.

Hsu barely took it 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. If I'm not mistaken his opponent served for it up 5-4 in the 3rd. You got to get that online scoreboard working for the rest of us. Thanks in advance.

I think Hsu is top 10 material in NCAA. his forehand reminds me of James Blake forehand...

Gould promises that scores will be atop each cell next match. These doubles matches to six games are absurd. Bet that gets changed as season progresses. Card have a lot of work to do.

was not that great start for the cardinals. Lot of close matches vs a lower tier team UC Davis. But just first match..so a win is a win

Miss the scoreboard on screen, the way it used to be. Like the idea, though, of Gould commenting on match that is featured. Let's see what happens when scores are included with each match.

Same here. Where is the scoreboard...? but nice to have live commentary from Dick G. the man himself :) He's a great person, and still so active in the team, it's really great to have him around.

I got to Taube at the end of doubles and stayed until Stanford clinched the match. The team seems to have roughly the same feel as it always has. I was hoping to have a new energy but maybe Paul was just nervous for his first match. Underwhelming performances from several players, which has been our calling card for several years now. I was hoping John was going to look good but he is the only loss from yesterday. UC Davis is an unranked school here in NorCal and played several close matches with us. Let's hope it was first match jitters but the jury is still out. On another note, I was told by a friend (Alumn) of mine Dick Gould did commentary on the match over the web and had a hard time miss pronouncing names and called UC Davis (Santa Clara) the whole time. OUCH
Hopefully we can figure out a lineup that can win and fight a little better. I do think we have the talent for the top 30 but I will warn my fellow Stanford Card a return of the glory day's are far away and might not be attainable with the landscape of college tennis these days.

Ok if that is true of today's college tennis landscape then why is the women's team still so dominant and is capable of winning every year every day ?

I think it is mostly due to the cost of private schools vs. the public schools, which can get some 'in state' tuition breaks with only 4.5 schollies for the men. The women get 8 full schollies so they are not impacted by cost.

USC has been the only private school to stay at the very top of NCAA tennis and I have no idea how they can do it and Stanford can't anymore. Maybe it is the great weather in LA?

Also with the dramatic increase in indoor courts at colleges over the last 25 years, the colder weather schools can compete on a level playing field.

Money is a big problem in men's college tennis. Big state schools all have ways of finding extra money for their players. Thank title 9 for women having roughly double the amount of scholarship money that men have. On another note chalk up Stanford's performance yesterday to nerves. You all are not noting Fawcett's performance at No. 1. Let's see how they do at Sherwood against the big boys.

Mike Morrissey in his match against UC davis. Way too many balls falling short around service line.
and too many times, not taking advantage of 2nd serve returns and putting opponent under pressure......

On Brighter Note from the Farm:

Playing together for only the second time this season, Tom Fawcett and Maciek Romanowicz captured the Sherwood Cup doubles title on Monday morning. It's the first career doubles title for Fawcett while Romanowicz won doubles at this event in 2014 with John Morrissey. Full recap of the weekend: http://stanford.io/1xqEYZD

It might be time to update the college majors on the Stanford men's roster page. Twelve players, ten with undeclared majors, including at least four players who are in the spring of their junior years. I think the info is a bit outdated.

After all, this is not the UNC basketball or football team.

Apparently you did not get the joke. The point was not to say that Stanford is like UNCheat. It was to say the opposite: I am sure that the Stanford players actually have majors, unlike the football and basketball players at UNC. You might have heard about some very real scandals at UNC in this regard recently.

shocking that stanford lost in the 1st round of indoors qualifying

and paige lost both his matches comfortably (3 dubs, 5 singles)

both of those things happen so rarely vs competent opponents :)

not to worry, feddie - stanford will still win men's NCAAs and paige will be top 10 atp like matt bruch in no time

(or, to be less sarcastic, stanford men's tennis is still quite bad and thank god paige is getting a good education)

    No. 29 South Carolina 4, No. 31 Stanford 1

    DOUBLES
    1) Morrissey/Stineman (STAN) d. Koch/Pinheiro (SCAR) 6-3
    2) No. 46 Mayroone/O’Keefe (SCAR) d. Fawcett/Romanowicz (STAN) 7-5
    3) Adams/Schafer (SCAR) d. Paige/Trey Strobel (STAN) 6-3
    Order of Finish: 1, 3, 2

    SINGLES
    1) No. 25 Tom Fawcett (STAN) d. No. 71 Thiago Pinheiro (SCAR) 6-4, 6-2
    2) Andrew Adams (SCAR) d. Maciek Romanowicz (STAN) 6-2, 6-1
    3) John Morrissey (STAN) vs. No. 118 Kyle Koch (SCAR) abandoned
    4) No. 83 Andrew Schafer (SCAR) d. No. 75 David Hsu (STAN) 6-2, 3-6, 6-1
    5) Harrison O’Keefe (SCAR) d. Nolan Paige (STAN) 7-6, 6-2
    6) David Wilczynski (STAN) vs. Thomas Mayroone (SCAR) abandoned
    Order of Finish: 2, 1, 5, 4

Question is What is going on with Morrissey and why is he playing #3 ? He was doing very well at #1 last year and now he can't win at #3.
and what is UP with Nolan Paige ? he has more talent that he is showing. He is actually worse than he was during freshman year.

    and Romanowicz ?? Can't win more than 3 games at #2 ?? Really ?
