    Hi-

Any info on the white Adidas racket that Edberg used for about 10 minutes between 1986-7(?) Specs? Model name? Available to the public? (anyone got one?)

The name was Delta 3 - it was also used by German pro Jens Woehrmann for a long time.

I remember he used it at the Masters at the end of that one season, and only that tourney. I'm sure it was made to be nearly exactly like his Prostaff, but "nearly" won't cut it for the pros. He switched back almost immediately.

If I recall, it was white with small touches of color like a Miro painting (same designs as the Edberg shirts and bags at the time). The racquet was also slightly squarish, not quite Yonex-like, but like some current Volkls. It was for sale in Europe for a while. In fact, a store I used to go to in the center of France still had a rack full of them in 1994 or 1995.

Tennis Mag had a great article (back when Tennis Mag still produced great articles :) ) concerning pros switching racquet companies right around the time Agassi signed with Donnay. The author mentioned that Stefan was experiencing some arm/shoulder pain with the new Adidas frame after the Masters and brought his Pro Staffs to the Australian "just in case". Seems he went right back to the Wilsons almost immediately.

He used it at the Tokyo Indoor that same year (was the only time Id seen him use it). Have a vague recollection of him playing and beating Ivan Lendl while using it and him possibly being a r/u at the event?

If anybody can positively identify that the delta 3 is the correct frame I would be very appreciative........

    Because I have one.

It would be great if you would post some photos of the Delta 3 racquet.

    Thanks.

If your Delta 3 is a white frame it is definitely the Edberg racket. There were three "Deltas" - a white and afair a green and a blue one. Edbergs was the Delta 1 or 3 - but I'm quit sure it was the 3. But 100% Edberg used the white one.

This must have been the 86 Tokyo indoor where he beat Lendl in the semis but lost to Becker in the final. In 87 where he won against Lendl in the final he definitely used the Pro staff.

I don't mean to drag this out and tease, but remodeling the house has taken alot of time....and I took pics of some of the other favorites of mine. I'll post the picks here and in a slideshow on http://www tennistravelclub.com, I'll have a link a little later tonight.

I took some pics of the Adidas, but also some of the Snauwaerts (Graphite Wood La Grande, Gerulitis Open Throat Graphite), a Slazenger V-24, and god knows what else. I've got some of the b+w check Estusas becker used for 5 minutes, too, kicking around at the house.

Again, by tonight- say 7pm EST

I'd like to see pics of the Graphite Wood La Grande, Gerulitis Open Throat Graphite, and a Slazenger V-24.

I've always had a soft spot for open throat wooden racquets--ever since I didn't get a Head Vilas.

I'd like to buy the V24 from you!

    I've got 4 Head Vilas.

The Adidas frame was used by Edberg at the Masters. It gave him a case of tendonitis and he returned to the ProStaff. I remember for the longest time, Edberg didn't have a contract with Wilson, even when he was #1 in the world. All he had was the Bow circle on his strings. He was asked about an endorsement deal with Wilson and his reply was "I guess they don't want me." I was very intrigued by that frame and was amazed that Edberg didn't give it much of a chance. I don't think he did too well at the Masters with it.

Some time after that, he did get a contract with Wilson and stayed with them. I remember reading somewhere that his coach, Tony Pickard, discovered Edberg while scouting junior players for Wilson. Pickard signed him to his first contract with Wilson and then took over coaching duties.

Thank you, sir. I would have liked to hvae gotten better pics, but i keep all my frames in safe storage. I might take the meso fibre (the green, light green and gold Snauwaert) out for a hit this week. I also have a superlight orbit and a golden mid (red version) that I've been dying to try. The adidas? Never been hit, plastic still on the handle.

I remember the V24 being sld at my local KMart for something like $60 new (Aussie) - and I wasn't interested in it at all because wood was soooo old fashioned and the black and red aluminium Slazenger Panther was the stick i wasn't going to be able to live without.

If by any chance Brere Rabbit happens to be attacked by his dog (or wife) and mauled to a state that would preclude him from ever playing tennis again, I'd be interested in your V24 as well!

More likely from the wife than the dog. That's why I go to work at 6:30 every morning before she gets up. :)

I've never seen one, but I'll start looking (if you don't want to sell yours that is) more often

Thanks for posting the Adidas, I too remember watching the year end Masters tournament and being very intrigued by SE using a White Adidas. Did you buy this retail or did it come from somewhere else?

Lucked out on an auction. No one bid on it. I thought knew what it was the minute I saw it, and wanted one for years. There's a couple of frames I'd like to find, and then I'm done. No more collectibleframes after I find the last 3.

I had 2 Mizuno Lendls...sold them for practically nothing. Kills me to this day. I sold them in a package deal with 2 puma winners, never hit, and 2 kneissl masters 10 's . I still lay awake at night wishing I had them back.
