Could any type of stencil be considered a hindrance if you're just holding your racquet as usual and not waving it around as a distraction. I just saw a whirly, hypnotic stencil and was just wondering. In the past few days I saw a smiley face stencil but I didn't really notice it until late in the match. Your thoughts....

Doubtful. I once played a guy who had "you suck". Stenciled on his frame. Ever time he won a point he would hold it up to show me. After I won the match I picked up one of his racquets, handed it to him and said I believe this belongs to you.

Can a fart be called as a hiderance during a point if its on the opponents side of the net when a player is about to hit a ball? And if so is that opponent then required to say "excuse me" as to not get a warning by an official?

Well, I think a stencil can be a distraction if you're waving it about (the stencil that is), like a fan or something. That can be quite distracting. Just the other day a friend did that to me. And I was like, dude, next time, can't you just leave your stencils at home?

Depends. Are you thinking of a noisy fart (auditory distraction), or silent-but-deadly (olfactory distraction)? Very different animals, and the rules distinguish each as a separate case.

This thread is a fail because there is no obligatory poll.

All rules questions here are to be decided by popular vote.

Just wanted some thoughtful opinions, not sarcastic, sophomoric snark.

You'd probably do better to keep your funky thoughts to yourself.

Don't get your underwear in a bundle. People thought it was an amusing question. There are enough things out there that tennis people use to claim interference with their game. I have never heard of a stencil doing this until now. :) It's kind of one of those "...just when you think you've heard it all ..." things.

    OMG! :)

OK, serious question then. Let's say this happened at a tournament. Could you call an official and complain about taunting? Is that a violation of the PPS?
