What does increased/decreased stiffness do in a string combo. Someone on the boards told me that switching my mains and crosses would get me more stiffness. What would this mean?

IMO its very much about personal feel and opinion. If you want a less mushy feel from a mushy frame or strings then if you switch to a stiffer string then you might get the results your looking for.

Most people and pros when doing a hybrid are combining one soft string with one stiff string to get the benefits from both types.

The fun(or lack of) is in trying diff combinations with diff tensions

Read some oof the info from the below link It will also show a stiffness rating for strings.
