stop bashing federer for the 15 jacket

He was handed that jacket by an official after he won. (Shown on BBC) He didn't have it in his bag and he didn't even know about it beforehand. In an interview on ESPN radio this morning Federer said that he didn't know anything about the special jacket until someone handed it to him after the match.

But I know people will continue bashing him regardless.

OFcourse, because it deserves bashing. It was totally classless, the blood has not even dried on centre court. I never thought that there would be anything worse than Federer's Sgt Pepper jacket , turns out there is...

It was ok, but he should have collared it down.

Dont bother. Many tools here are blind and think Federer had it in his bag and wrote 15 on it with a sharpie before the match.

do you really need to have 15 on your jacket to prove your good? we get it. youve won more slams than anyone else. you dont have to have it printed on your clothes

The number 15 is a cool number. He should now wear the jacket to every single match which he plays and only replaces it when he gets his new jacket with the number 16 on it.

That is a good point, I was actually wondering that myself as Sue Barker also knew? Perhaps Nike informed them? Seems unlikely though. Or perhaps Fed did know. Does the OP have a source for the interview? He didn't post one...

The jacket was the most important thing about yesterday

screw Sampras, Laver, AND borg being there, screw the history, screw the records that were utterly destroyed

it's all about the number 15 on a jacket of course

It sucked, I already had the other jacket and now I have to buy another one with a 15 on it. :(

On a serious note, I haven't read that far on the forum in the last 24 hours to see much bashing for the jacket. I think it was a little classless for the specific time.

It reminds me of the superbowl where they already print (both of) the team's champion hats and the winners are wearing them while the final seconds are ticking off the clock.

    But this is tennis.

no one would have known about it if sue barker hadn't brought it up. It looked to me that fed looked embarrassed when she did that.

Nike should have provided RG 15 hats after the match to Sampras, Laver, Borg and everyone in the crowd for a reasonable price.

    Fed didn't know.........

This was done by Nike as a surprise to Fed for winning the 15th GS. If you noticed at the first commercial Nike also ran a congrats ad with several sport stars congratulating Fed for the 15th. A publicity stunt by NIKE not Fed. McEnroe knew about it because he was told by the Nike rep. Get a clue people; it's advertizing as Nike does in a lot of other sports.

    Cheers, TennezSport

... Did you watch the end of the match? After he was handed the jacket, he examined it closely. I was wondering why at the time.

Well, when someone handed him the jacket after the match, I'm assuming he looked and saw the 15. Of course he knew when Sue asked him about it, but I'm not sure if he knew about it before the match, which some people seem to think he did.

But he still put it on  Roger has said himself, he doesn't like Players who go up to their Player camps/box when they win, its not in good taste, yet he feels its ok and in good taste to rub in how many slams he has won by wearing that Jacket

Had this been a straight sets win for fed this wouldn't be a big deal. It's because of the crushing loss that roddick took that makes this look alot worse. Also this should be blamed by Nike not federer.

It was the perfect time for Nike to make money. It is a business to them not a sport.

    This board is hilarious...

Roddick is pretty much unanimously hated, im one of his few fans but as soon as fed is involved everyone is sympathetic for Roddick and all his years of arrogant brash statements and umpire abuse are forgotten and he's the poor golden child who lost his chance at making history thanks to Lucifer Federer.

I really think you are making a big deal out of this. Someone gave him the jacket, he put it on. I'm sure he did not put the jacket on just to rub it in people's faces.

    One silly question;

would Roddick have pulled out of this bag a Lacoste jacket with the number 2 on it should he have won the match?

I gotta say one thing about the jacket though (more importantly the white & gold theme) I was thinking of making a full blown thread about it but it might be a bit much. Although I think his bag was the gayest thing in the tourney (no offence to gays), his pants, polo and jacket looked better when he was holding the trophy...it just brought out the gold stripes. :)

Hey "bro", many sports present the champions special shirts, hats, rings, trophies, etc directly after the event ends.

I'm sure Roddick could give a rat's *** about what Federer has on his jacket. You should have the same opinion. You could make just as strong an argument that Roddick wearing his hat backwards for the ceremony was in bad taste or "ghetto". But most people don't because its a non-issue.

15 = the number of slams Federer has won and the I.Q. of anyone who thinks what is on Federer's jacket amounts to a hill of beans.

sup bro. i think its because that tennis is a 1 man sport that it comes off arrogant. team sports do that to show theyre proud of the work theyve put in and proud of the men they played with. but since fed doesnt have teammates it comes off as selfishness or something. i just had a problem with the timing
