I'd have to go with Serena winning the US Open in 08. What else can you think of?

Boris Becker winning the AO and becoming number one. Hardly gave a speech. I believe he ran out of the stadium and jumped in a river or something like that.

That's it, you beat me to it. Also, when Federer won his second Wimbledon and folded himself in half, that was pretty weird.

I wonder what was going through his mind on that one. I've seen him make bigger deals out of straight-set thumpings at regular tour tournaments.

I think it was a bit classy by Safin. Its called Showing respect to Hewitt. Not to fall to the ground like some arrogant primadonna like Fed after winning it 13 times.. That gets a little old and very unprofessional IMHO. Safin only won twice and you dont see him do that. After 13 times youd figure Fed would be a bit more subdued

come on, that's ridiculous! yes it was classy and respectful of Safin, but falling to the ground isn't disrespectful.

By that token, many other players are extremely arrogant. I guess Edberg was arrogant for hopping the net?

Like Nadal's semifinal victory against Djokovic at French Open 08. Falling to the ground like he had already won the whole thing (well he sort of knew he would ;) ) Guess he is an arrogant primadonna too huh? *GameSampras is just jealous of Nadal and Federer*

I don't know I think Fed's put himself in a position where slams are expected of him, when you win your 12th or 13th, you need to show a little class.

How am I jealous? Because I call it like I see it so all of sudden im jealous of anothers success? Nothing wrong with elation or hopping up and down and jumping for joy by acknowledging you GS win. But falling to the ground and laying there does show a bit of disrespect for the opponent.. Thats just my opinion.. Others may differ. I think a professional athlete should should be just that.. a Professional. Even when winning the biggest crown. There is no Need for what Nadal and Fed do when they win a slam. But what Safin did was very classy. Hewitt was in front of his homecrowd and had the crowd behind him.. Great show of sportsmanship from Safin. Its a shame we didnt see more of "that Safin" during his whole career. If Safin could have played at that level more times, he would have been among the all time greats when looking back at his career

He had the talent of an all time great, but that's for a whole nother thread.

That was nice and classy, but that doesn't make not acting like Safin not classy.

Guga must be a real A-hole for drawing a heart on the clay at RG

Very weird statement (that falling to the ground is disrespectful). People express their joy in different ways and I for one enjoy the variety (including Monfils's exotic little dance). You wouldn't want to set a rule (since it's the latest rage here it seems) stating that players have to stand after a win and be authorized a limited number of reactions, would you? I don't know if it would be respectful but it would sure be boring!

A professional has feelings too. If you spent years training and sacrificing your body even though you might fail and have wasted the best years of your life, you should be able to jump around when you do something cool.

I'm trying to find this clip.

Have to say, this cracked me up.

He was rather subdued when he won his first slam too. Though he did celebrate that one a bit more.
I realise that, since he won both his slams by defeating the home fave, Marat gave himself little chance to go crazy haha.

I think jumping and screaming is a bit different than laying on the ground while your beaten opponent is upset and sitting there waiting for you to shake his/her hand after the match:). Ive seen it all too often these past 4-5 years. Im sorry I just find it a tad disrespectful. And I agree with Tacou in reference to Fed.. When youre almost EXPECTED to win 3 out of the 4 slams like Fed where its come almost a routine, I think he can do without the falling to the ground every time. It must be getting old for him to win slams anyways. LOL. Sure some people have different ways of acting out. But take your opponent into consideration as well. They should fall to the ground AFTER they shake the opponents hand. LOL
    .
    Anyways I digress.

But most people thought that Nadal would win the USO, then Djoker, then Fed.

Good Lord!! Who would think that? Why would anyone pick Nadal on HC's of a series of best of 5 set matches over Djoker and Fed?

I don't think it was getting old in a year when Fed hadn't won a single slam yet, he was just relieved he still could ;-)

Exactly! People express their joy in different ways, Safin is less emotional and just let out a cool smile, Nadal and Federer like to fall to the ground, Stepanek likes to do a worm dance, its all human beings expressing their joys. What makes you the emotion police to say falling to the ground is disrespectful? Weird.

I bet you'd feel differently if you were on the other side of the net. Imagine losing a slam final to Radek, waiting at the net as he cries like a little baby and does the worm.

Yea but it doesn't matter...the other guy won...don't looks from the losers point of view look from the winners:

"i played through 7 rounds to get here....victory is within my grasp OMG he DF on my match point...i don't have to stand anymore...this a GS title.....no more rallying"

Your legs give from the Euphoria depending on how much the victory meant to you

And Stepanek will never win a slam
