I've ordered some Ashaway Dynamite Soft 18 and have read that Ashaway recommends stinging it "10-20% lower than standard".

But 10-20% lower relative to what? The racquet's recommended range of tensions? And how does this effect hybrids?

For example, for my PB 10 Mid I've strung the VS Mains at 50 and Xcel Crosses at 52.

If I use the Dynamite 18 in the crosses, do I need to string at 45 and the gut at an equivalent amount lower? Or can I still do the Dynamite crosses at 52 and Pacific Prime 16 at 50? (I'm going to try Dynamite crosses and Pacific Prime mains). I liked Dynamite 18's numbers in the TW string performance database at 51, so I'm hoping I need not change.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Multiply your normal tension(s) by .85 ;-)

The recommended tensions for the PB10 Mid are 50-60 with a midpoint of 55. Multiplying these values by .85 yields a range of 43-51 with a midpoint of 47.

I suppose I could safely string the Dynamite at 51 and the Pacific at 49.

But with Ashaway also recommending a max tension of 55 what does it mean if one pushes the tension towards that value, regardless of recommended racquet tension?

I guess it'll be fine since TW tested it at 51. Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem of recommended tensions pushing up close to theoretical maximums when doing everything "by the numbers".

The "standard" most likely refers to the tension you would use to string up your racquet with ordinary synthetic gut like Prince Synthetic Gut Duraflex.
