I’d like to try natural gut (for reasons of comfort and armfriendliness) and wonder how I should have my racket strung. Presently I’m using Babolat Xcel at 25 kilos (approx 55 lb), and it suits me well. Should I ask my stringer to use the same tension for VS nat gut?

My racket: Babolat Aeropro Drive GT, 16/19.

I have used both these strings - I would string the same gauge of Xcel and VS about the same tension, maybe up the tension of the VS by 2-3 lbs, not more.

Stringing a full bed of natural gut at the same tension as Xcel is completely stupid - the gut is almost 50% softer.

In a large hooped, open patterned racquet like a APDGT, you must pre-stretch the gut and really want to be aiming around 60lbs or possibly slightly more (depending on preference), if you're already stringing Xcel around 55lbs.

Agree - about 2-3lbs more should do it.

Thanks for your replies. So, the tension should be upped a bit. 2-3 or maybe even 5 lbs.
