Id like to know what rackets each player is using and what strings/tensions ???

Let us know if any of them are getting a woody strung for a possible surprise like Todd Martin produced last final :)

Wish I could be there, thanks for the info.

Hey I'd be interested in knowing if Sampras still strings as high as he used to. Cheers

Hope you get the time to enjoy some of the matches. I saw Mats play a couple of months ago in Sweden and he was still very fit and striking the ball well, gliding around the court effortlessly, smiling, joking and in good spirits. Looking forward to any anecdotes from the weekend that you care to share.

The format of these tournaments has changed a bit and is shorter now. Just 2 semi-finals that are 1 regular set - then an 8 game pro set for the final.

1st Semi - Courier Beat Wilander, 6-3. Jim was playing well and just a little too much variety for Mats.

2nd Semi - Sampras beat Chang, 6-3. Sampras' game was just too big, and he was holding pretty easily while putting pressure on Chang in his service games.

Final - Sampras beat Courier 8-7. Sampras got up a break early and Courier broke him to even the set back up. It was a pretty equal set for the most part, just a couple of points to Pete for the victory. Both guys were playing pretty well. Pete was throwing in some S&V and seemed to anticipate where Jim was going with the ball a lot of times. There were actually a few pro tour-level points I thought. Pretty high level still from both guys.

As far as the stringing and racquets go, I really didn't do all that much stringing, since the format is much shorter. Here is what I gathered from being in the players lounge:

Courier: now playing a Donnay X-P Dual Black 102 it seems, which is interesting since he initially went from the N90 to one of the first series of Donnay's that was a 99. He had Gosen JC Micro 16 in the mains, Lux ALU Power 1.25 crosses. One at 65, the other at 67. A little bit of lead at 3 and 9.

Chang: Bab APD with PHT at 54 lbs.

Wilander: Didn't string any of his sticks but looks like he was playing a Donnay racquet also.

Sampras: I didn't string any of Pete's sticks but it looked like he was playing with a much larger head size now (at least 95', possibly bigger). His bag just had a bunch of blacked out frames in it. Beam width looked to be in the 20-22mm range. I hear he still strings in the high 60's (lbs) but as I said, didn't end up stringing any of his sticks.

Jamauss, interesting how high courier went in tension When I strung for them in ft Lauderdale he started at 60 and ended at 57. What machine did you bring or did they provide you with one? I took my baiardo.

    Cheers.

    Hey Drak,

I was stringing on a Prince 5000 that was on site. When did you get a Baiardo?...lucky dog. Did you string for Connors at that event? Did you happen to string for Pete? He came to the event here with about 8 racquets it looked like...all were already recently strung so he didn't need me :( haha

Is Chang's aero pro drive 28" long? Is he still using a 4 1/2 grip?
