This tournament is all I can think about now. I'm not getting any work done. Instead, I'm studying the amenities of my hotel, looking into the Marriott that's across the street (I've read it's the player hotel so I must have drinks there in the hopes of "causally" bumping into a player or two), pulling up my seats on the seat view, studying the Tuesday and Wednesday orders of play from last year to get a feel for the match-ups I might see, etc. In other words, I'm obsessed.

Thank god. I've been waiting for another obsessed fan. I must have used that seat viewer a million times (alternating between excitement and disappointment/anxiety, but mostly excitement). I've been doing this for a month. I wish I was staying in a hotel nearby, but I'm already breaking the bank. I think drinks or breakfast at the Marriott is a great idea!

In exactly one week I will be taking a a red eye after work, enduring a couple of layovers to arrive in Cincy Thursday night! When I tell my friends where I'm going on vacation, they give me strange looks....

What section are your seats in?

We can help each other get through the next week+! How many days will you be there? Our seats our in section 325 for two sessions, and 324 for one. This is my first time, but from the seat viewer it really looks like there isn't a bad seat in the place. I wonder how much time I'll even spend in center court? I have a feeling I'll be drawn to a lot of the side courts, practice courts, and player's entrance. We get there Tuesday and will go to the night session then we're there all day and night Wednesday. I'm already feeling a little stressed over Wednesday and the idea of trying to map out a plan of attack once the order of play for the day is posted. Do you have any must-see players?

I'm going for the whole thing! The flight was so expensive, I figured I might as well go all out since I probably won't get a chance to do it again for a long time. I would have even got box seats, but I didn't have another couple to share with (probably just as well). I ended up in section 215. It took me a long time to decide between shade, proximity to court, seat vs. bleacher, and blocked view due to chair ump. I was using a small screen and erroneously thought I was positioned near the players' entrance, and chose these seats so I could see the players' faces as they look to their boxes in dispair/disgust/triumph. It turns out my seats are exactly opposite of the players entrance!! Now I'm stuck in the sun all day, but at least it looks like a good view. I almost went with the seats you got....kinda wish I would have now, for the shade, but at least I'm a little bit closer. I think you're right...they're all good seats.

Because I'm there for the whole tournament, I don't have to worry as much about my strategy (although there is always the chance of upsets, so I have to make sure I catch at least some of my faves' early round matches just in case). I too have been wondering how much time I'll actually spend on center court!

I'm in the minority in that I actually prefer watching women's tennis...I like the drama! And I like the weird ones. My must see is Serena. Others I really want to see: Bartoli, Cibulkova, Venus, Hampton, Kuznetsova, Azarenka, Sharapova, Radwanska, Magic Sands, and any Russian (or eastern European) who's on the edge of a breakdown. And I have a huge second second tier list that I won't bore you with. I do want to see Fed, Nadal, Nole (and maybe Tsonga and Del Potro), and will go to semis, final, and maybe some earlier matches (like safety first rounds in case of upset or a really good matchup). Who knows? Maybe I'll get hooked on them, too...

I can hardly wait!!! It's supposed to be way more impressive live.

I just got my tickets today. I'm going to be there on Tuesday the 13th to watch the practice courts and sightsee, and then I'm going to both sessions on Wednesday the 14th. We don't have to wait too much longer, just a few more weeks.

I'm hoping to get a little more into the women after seeing them live. My husband likes the weird ones too so Bartoli is probably tops on our women's list. My list of favorites on the men's side is much like your women's list and has several layers of sub-favorites so it's going to be tricky, and I'm sure there will be favorites playing at the same time on different courts. That's going to be quite a week for you! Jealous that you'll be there start to finish!

Sounds like we have almost the same schedule. After studying the order of play from Wednesday of 2012, I'm convinced it's going to be an amazing day.

It is going to be an awesome....you're right to be jealous! :)

I must say I'm a bit envious of all you people who live close enough that you can come for a couple days, year after year, if you like!

I can hardly wait for the oop to start plotting my day(s)! Just got caught sitting here typing away with a with a very goofy smile.

    Vanhool..........where are you flying from?

A few years ago, I drove down on a whim and bought an amazing seat from a scalper for $15.

I'm flying in from Hawaii. No big tournaments here, and if they ever got one it wouldn't be on my island! Where did you drive down from? If I could drive there I'd get a whim every year :)

Now that you mention the scalpers, I'll pay attention....maybe I can upgrade for a day.

When I moved to the Cincinnati area from norther New Jersey, the first night I was here I went to eat at Montgomery Inn for the ribs. Also took my wife their on our first date. Their ribs are AWESOME! Luckily I work only 3 minutes from their other location on the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati.

If anyone visiting does stop by Graeter's Ice Cream, do yourself a favor and get the Blueberry Pie ice cream. Has small pieces of pie crust in it. Best ice cream flavor i've ever had.

Trust me.....you can thank me later!

I just found out that my wife is taking the boys to visit her mom this coming weekend. So I was going to offer my son's ticket for Saturday morning for free if anybody was interested (section 329), but I then realized that it is designated as a 'child' ticket, being only $5. I highly doubt that anybody is going to want their child to sit by themselves. Guess I'll have an empty seat next to me to place my souvenirs!

I don't know if an adult can use the seat. My tickets will be waiting for me at will call, so I don't know if it'll be marked 'child' or not. Since they do charge different prices for adult vs children seats I assume each ticket is marked accordingly or else everybody will just order child tickets and save $$$!

I can hardly wait. This time tomorrow, we'll be arriving at the Hilo airport. This time day after tomorrow, we'll be arriving at the Cincinatti airport. Not looking forward much to the time in between, but it will all be worth it! Hour after hour of guilt free tennis viewing....live! Stalker photos! Camping! (Maybe I'd prefer AC hotel, but I will remain positive...Camping!) Ribs! Souvenier towels! No work! Family! Water park! Sereeeeeeeenaaa Wiiilliams! (My mind always has Bruce Buffer from UFC announcing her) So happy!

Have you (or anyone else) eaten at Phoenician Taverna? It's the top-reviewed restaurant on Trip Advisor so I'm curious to check it out.

Hey, if anybody in Mason/Cincy wants to get out and play let me know. I'm going to see the tourny Monday and Tuesday and would like to work in a hit while I'm there. I'm open in the morning before day session starts or late afternoon before night session begins.

There are 3 courts at the hotel I'm staying at near the venue. But I could travel to any other surrounding courts as well. I'm a streaky 4.0 and can hang with a 4.5 on a good day. But, I'll play any level. I just want to get out there and play.

So, I called the ticket office, explaining to them that my son is no longer able to attend the event. I asked if I could pay and additional $5 to 'convert' the ticket to an adult ticket. They actually thanked me for my honesty, and told me that anybody can use the ticket, even an adult. There is no print on the ticket that ready 'Child' or 'Adult', so if anyone wants the ticket, let me know. Acutally, 'Guitarplayer' gets first dibs on it, since he asked already. It's section 329, seats 9 & 10.

I'm not sure how long the session is. All the ticket says is 10:00am, no end time. Since it only cost me $5, I don't need any money for it. It's free. Let me check the tournament website and see if they have a session end time listed.

I just called the ticket office. They said that Saturday has only 1 session scheduled, so it can run until 5:00, 6:00 or even 7:00pm. Tickets are good for the entire day's matches. Nice!

Not a good weather today here in Cincinnati, but tomorrow will be PERFECT! Should be upper 60's/low 70's in the morning and slightly overcast. Contemplating if I should borrow the awesome small Sony camera I bought my mom for Christmas or just use my cell phone for picture taking.

Getting pretty pumped for my first ever tournament! And thanks to Rod I won't be watching it alone!

Not distinctive in any particular way but the place has definitely maintained its quality over the last 5 years or so,
which is a rare phenomenon among Indian restaurants here that do well initially and quality drops after the first year.

Also, I ought to mention this is only Indian restaurant that seems to maintain a stable stock of repeat customers
involving Indians and non-Indians. There is also a place called Curries right across the street that seems to
cater well to the taste of its Indian customers but non-Indians find this place too spicy.
Needless to mention, with buffet style, timing is the key.

If you need a distinctive place, hit up Brij Mohan Chaat & Sweets located about a mile from New Krishna.

I like Aglamesis for its parlor-like setting but agree that Graeter's chocolate chip cookie and banana split boat are unbeatable.
I have substituted lunch with banana split boat on many dull work days.
