Fair warning to first-timers: Pack an umbrella or raincoat or both and time yourself for the still traffic at the highway exit to venue.
Nothing more frustrating than being able to see the courts from highway exit but not be able to get to it for another 30-45 minutes,
    especially during the important matches.

Is there a side-road? I'm staying about 10 minutes away and happy to navigate back roads if it means avoiding the highway traffic.

There is basically one main street that the facility driveway is off of. It's a 4-lane street (2 lanes each direction). It all depends on where you're coming from.

I'll be coming from 10 minutes south. Looks like getting on 71 is the most direct, but it also looks like we could go up Mason Montgomery road and then cut over on Kings Mill Road. Is that the better option because then we'd be making a right hand turn into the facility rather than a left?

I am coming from that direction as well, so it's really the best route for those taking side roads from that side of town.

Thank you for these excellent warnings!!!!!! I was afraid of the traffic thing. Now I know how long the wait can be.

Ok, my girlfriend asked who would post / read such banal stuff. I said lots of people. I now realize she was right and am embarrassed by all my trivial observations and am deleting them.

VERY disappointed with the order of play for Monday....obviously the Cincy ATP schedule makers are more concerned about PC than putting the most compelling meaningful matches on center court for the featured night matches. Venus against a nobody qualifier followed by James Blake?? You could have had Mardy Fish/Kohlschreiber or Stosur/Sveta or Tipsy/Querry, all much more interesting than Venus or Blake!! Venus and Blake are not relevant anymore!! Come on Cincy, this PC is BS.

Are you at the tournament? If you are, it almost seems better to get the more exciting matches off center court. That way you can get closer seats (assuming you're like me and don't have the great seats for center court). I hope some of the really exciting match-ups Tuesday night and Wednesday end up off center.

We're going Wednesday and Thursday for the 11 am session. Hopefully will be able to catch a top 4 player match during that session one day. Never been to a tournament so not sure how they do that.

Does anyone know if they kick you out for the night session if you just have day session tickets? I know you probably couldn't get in center court, but do you think they check for the grand stand?

Awwww. Well, basically you will be how surprised different they look in person! Some look bigger, some smaller, some pudgier, some more fit. It's weird.

The difference in play between top and lower players is even more pronounced in person.

Also noted that Eugenie Bouchard (beautiful young Canadian) wears a clown cake of sunscreen to protect her future moneymaker (face), to the point where I didn't even know who it was til I checked schedule.

Peeked in at Federer practicing and was surprised to see he did not glow with some kind of magical aura. Looked very ordinary and kind of small.

Watched Bartoli practice at noon and people were already staking out spots to see Sharapova! Was pretty crowded by the time she got there at 1:00. Wish Marion still practiced with the doctor's crazy bungee system.

My girlfriend (who thinks it's so embarrassing, but said she would tolerate me getting autographs or asking for pictures with stars) ran into Bartoli later that evening when we were shopping at whole foods....she blurted out "Marion," she didn't hear her so she said "Bartoli" and she looked up. "Congratulations on winning Wimbledon" and she said "thank you." Awkwardly wanting to prolong the moment, she said "You're my favorite player!" "Thank you" "I'll leave you now..." "Thank you". "Good luck in the tournament," she mumbled as she walked away and proceeded to be mortified for the rest of the night. Lol. Of course I was dying of envy and had to go track her down (she's very tan!), but I didn't bug her. Luckily I needed something from that aisle anyway, but I'm sure I was emitting dorky fan/stalker vibes anyway....GF says that she was nice and sincere, but she could also tell she really didn't want to be bothered. She says only Bartoli could have compelled her to act like that...We'll see as the week wears on!

Cibulkova looks so good in practice. GF thought she looked pudgy. I said wait til her shirt flies up while hitting. Massive abs...between that and her legs/glutes, no wonder she's such a powerhouse at 5'3". She was crushing the lines. I wish she was top 10.

Sounds like you're having a great time!! Can't wait until tomorrow so I can join in on the fun. I'm also making a mental note to swing by the Whole Foods to stock up on snacks for the hotel room ;) Have you managed any autographs yet? Have you spent any time by the player entrance? I was just having fun looking at all of the matches starting trying to decide which one I'd go to if we were there today. I almost think I'd start with the Youhzny/Seppi vs. Paire/Wawrinka doubles match. I keep thinking surely the world is going to end tonight just to prevent me from making it to Cincinnati.

We're running late today, but the main match we want see for the day session is Stosur/Kuznetsova, which is pretty soon, so we're on our way now.

Have you stayed all day once you get in or have you left and come back? I think we'll most likely stay all day and night Wednesday but curious if it's doable to leave for a bit in the late afternoon before coming back for evening.

I was at IW, and after watching Karlovic and Del Potro practice, Fed looked very small.

First day I left early for Kings island with family. Yesterday we were really tired and not too into the night match, so we sold our evening tickets. Today we will probably leave between sessions. I'll report back later.

I don't think it's PC....they are really popular players who probably won't have a deep run. Janowicz will probably take Blake out today. Saw a little of Cepalova yesterday...if Venus doesn't beat her, it will be pretty pitiful. Plus they have to have decent matches for the day tickets. I guess they could have flipped day for night schedule

Yup, many people would prefer to watch Venus than Fish. Professional tennis is a business, and entertainment value is what is perceived by the payer, not what is absolutely better or worse.

Yes I am at the tournament. That's why I'm ****ed at the CRAP night matches. I spent a lot of money for court side box seats to see two totally irrelevant players. Blake should not even be in the tournament but for the stupid wild cards they keep giving him....... that he no longer should be getting. Blake and Venus are has beens.

Venus played a horrible match yet still won against an unknown qualie...... Janowicz, you could tell did not engage in the match. He looked like he would rather be anywhere but there.
Venus and Blake will lose as soon as they hit a quality opponent.

I had such a great time Saturday. Rod came down from Columbus to join me, and we had a great time. I'm going to try and purchase a ticket for Friday night, but only if I can get a decent seat.

We're here! Don't go to the courts until 5:00 so we grabbed lunch at the Marriott and saw Almagro chilling in the lobby. It took all of my will power not to bug him, and I'm not even a fan. I shudder to think what kind of fool I'll make of myself if I run into someone I really like.

    Couple tips:

Court 3 upstairs will let you in and out anytime regardless of changeover, which is nice if you are managing multiple matches.

Smaller courts seem to be more factionalized by fan bases based on which side the player is sitting on. Not sure about this though. Just sat in second row. Russian lady was yelling for pavlyinchenkova. I yelled c'mon Jamie!!! And Russian lady turned around and gave me a dirty look. Noticed it was the players box and moritagliou was right in front of me!!!! :embarrassed: shut up, got up and moved to Jamie's side next changeover.

I took a bunch of pics with my Galaxy Nexus phone. I should have brought my camera......oh well. I haven't shown the wife any of them......I have no idea who this is. A lady standing behind Rod and I asked us who this was, so I replied "My future ex-wife". :)

Had such a great day. I have to write it all down here so I don't forget anything.

We grabbed lunch at the Marriott and saw Almagro sitting alone in the lobby looking surly (possibly just his regular Almagro face). I was afraid to bug him. Took a trip over to Whole Foods to pick up snacks and saw Matosevic & his coach (thought it was Dodig but later figured out who it really was).

Right as we were walking up to the tournament, Rafa was finishing a practice session and heading out. We got to be there right within autograph distance and watch him load up on a golf cart with his crew. He signed a few, looking like a deer in headlights the entire time.

Watched a little of the Benneteau-Stepanek match. We ended up sitting behind Youhzny's coach...he must be planning a win today over Murray :) Benneteau was getting a lot of coaching from his people, and didn't seem all that pleasant. He was giving the ball boys a hard time and got into with the chair after getting a time warning.

Watched the end of the Gasquet-Chardy, Ram-Baker doubles match. I'm kicking myself for not getting a picture with Gasquet after the match. I could have, but I was too shy. The somehow couldn't find their way off court when the match was over so I ended up opening the little gate for them. My husband insisted on getting Ram's autograph. I will me so annoyed if Rajeev Ran is the only autograph we come home with.

Watched a bit of the Sharapova-Stevens match to check out our seats then went to Raonic-Sock. Raonic managed not to touch the net though he did need a medical timeout. The highlight was watching umpire Gerry Armstrong clean goose poop off the court at Raonic's insistence. Sock was annoyed.

Then is was time for Roger. Not a very noteworthy match, but I've now seen ROGER FEDERER in person!

A highlight was going to the tennis channel interview area after the Stevens and Federer matches. It was fun to have them just a couple of feet away and listen to them talk all up close and personal.

I vow to be at least a little more aggressive today. I need at least one photo with a player and a non-Ram autograph.

I just scored two tickets for Thursday evening session, section 231 row E. My 5 year old is psyched since he couldn't go with me to Saturday's opening session.

I'll be there Friday for the night matches. Thanks again for the Saturday ticket.. So, are you having dinner with Hantuchova again? The Cincy Tabloids are going crazy. I'm still babysitting her dog for you.

Today was such an amazing day. I just loved wandering around, checking out the practice courts, waiting by the player entrance, watching the post-match interviews and getting autographs, etc. I hope I'm able to come back every year.

When I was planning this trip, I imagined maybe going out to dinner a few times between sessions, getting some shopping done, maybe some laundry in the morning. Hah! It's been nonstop! With he jetlag; the earliest I seem to be able to get up is 7, after which I move like a turtle. Once we're at the tournament, we haven't left the tennis center even to go to the car for stuff. Asleep between midnight and 1. I haven't had time to post my novela.

Wow, this has exceeded my expectations. It's been so fun!!! Plus with all the exhaustion , we've had couple incidents where we couldn't stop laughing...tears streaming down, and every time we look at each other it starts again. Unfortunately the first time was near Wozniaki's player box. I was so worried they/she would think we were laughing at her (we aren't), we were trying to hold it together but it made it even worse! Luckily we pulled it off without them noticing. Had another one last night, but we were at home and able to laugh until our stomachs hurt. This is first real vacation in years where I feel like I've left all my cares behind (ok, part of it is a lot of my worries have resolved themselves finally) and just had a blast! By the end of the first day, we were already talking about next year! I have a feeling we'll be too exhausted by the end (plus we want to go to some other places, too), so maybe in a few years, but we'll definitely be back! This tournament has so much going on, we haven't had time to do it all! We haven't even got our souvenirs yet or tried the serve booth. This is da bes'!
