After the debarkle which was the womens FO final and tournament. Surely, even Navratilova couldn't justify equal pay after what we all witnessed. The final was a non event, seats were empty, the crowd wasn't into the match at all. The tennis was rubbish, the depth was nowhere!!

Just look at what Roger and Robin had to do just to get to the final!! COme on!!!

In fact I will put it on record as being the worst FO womens event in history...agree?

equal pay is the biggest pile of crap ever. Which sport is more popular, that's the real question, men's tennis or women's tennis? The prize money should reflect how much money is actually generated by the respective sports.

Equal pay is a leftist/socialist idea for professional tennis.

I think the ITF should take a free-market approach to the whole thing and dole out money to either association based on their earning potential.

Isn't that fair? This is just reverse sexism!

Equal pay for equal work for tennis should mean equal pay for equal earning capabilities as professional tennis is entertainment at it's core so the men should be paid more as they clearly are able to entertain audiences more than the women are.

    That's my look at it.

After seeing what she said about herself on the tennischannel.com video section. I have lost all respect for her..

To say that she is the greatest, when Margaret Court achieved way more, just riled me up the wrong way.. The fact that Steffi Graf won more singles GS's, and that because she played in a newish era, she feels resolute in her opinion..

    Margaret Court

Singles 29 GS finals, 24 titles.
Doubles 33 GS finals, 19 titles.
Mixed Doubles 23 GS finals, 19 titles.
Calender Slam x 1, and won 3 of the 4 slams in no less than 5 different years.
    Total: 62

    Martina Navratilova

Singles 32 GS finals, 18 titles.
Doubles 37 GS finals, 31 titles.
Mixed Doubles 16GS finals, 10 titles.
    Calender Slam x 0
    Total: 59

If women's tennis were paid according to the amount of effort put in and popularity, they would probably be paid 1/4th the prize money as men's.

If you take a free-market approach all over tennis than you'll end up having Nadal and Federer winning 50 million a Year (I'm not kidding), while guys like Seppi, Soderling, Kohlschreiber can barely keep their head up.

Equal pay is ridiculous, but letting the whole thing run free and see what the 'market' does is ridiculous as well.

Did these morons even watch the women's tournament? Or are they just braying their half-baked opinions about the WTA at us for the 5000th time?

Anyone who has a rudimentary knowledge of tennis would agree that the standard of play in this year's women's tournament was extremely high.

In addition, anyone who has watched more than two finals of big sports tournaments will know that finals are often an anti-climax. This was the same in the mens final.

The only valid argument is that the men play 5 sets and the women play 3 at slams.

    minimum ensured earnings...

Dont the players have a''minimum ensured earning'' assured by the ATP or WTA.This is to ask if they don have a kind of acceptable monthly income to live on?.Cant the players be considered as employees of the associations?
I find ''terrible'' the difference of earnings between the first ones and the last ones...almost overwhelming...

That makes way too much sense.
Why not have REALITY dictate the prize money rather
than socialist attempts to make everbody equal even if
    common sense say otherwise.
Should nude models in Playgirl magazine (I am not a subscriber)
get equal pay as models in Playboy?

Martina is one of my least favorite tennis personalities. I respect her achievements in tennis, I respect her knowledge as well. But her ego is sooo big she stumbles on it all the time. She is also very old school as well. She never misses an attempt to criticize a players grip.

    She really bothers me.....

The men's final was hopeless. Soderling comes in with a 0-9 head to head, and makes it 0-10 is straight sets showing great respect to Federer. Apart from Federer and Nadal, the other men don't deserve any pay at all. Considering that Federer was 2 sets down to the oldie Haas and yet wins, the depth in the men's game is very questionable, along with the medical excuses: mono, back pain, bad knees.
