Well, Querrey has made it to the round of 32 at Monte Carlo. Is anyone else surprised? This has to be one of his best showings in a Masters Event, and it is on clay.

He made it to the round of 16 not 32. And yes, it is a surprise.

    Edit: Edmondsm was faster

good for querrey. its about time we see an american sink their hands into this tournament or even play in it at all for that matter.

good for him...maybe american losers Roddick and Blake should at least learn from him, if not the Spaniards who work hard to improve their hardcourt game and succeed...

I'd love to see a few "Samurai" show up at a Querrey match in Monte Carlo. What a way to demnstrate American class ;)

Maybe he is mounting a challange to be elected to play in DC ? ;) If he goes one more, he is seriously challanging.

Yes but PMac is not stupid. He knows that when spaniards choose the clay, it will be so slow that your shoes will be stuck in the muddy stuff, hell you may even lose a pair or two here and there. And the us excuse for a clay tourney is just some dirt poured on concrete ;) so I think they all know querry did well to pass two matches at this red clay notoriously slow tourney.

Impressive result and you never know what you'll get from Gasquet. Odds are he's going down in straights though.

Querrey cannot slide on the clay at all. He'll lose.

it's gasquet. when doesnt he disappoint? i would be disappointed to see him make it to a final, and have him not live up to his rep as a choker.

I agree, Gasquet annoys the hell out of me the way he seems to be going backwards.

Congrats to Querrey though, he still had to do the business.

I will repeat myself. Querrey is a pretty young 20 year old and tall and great serving guy who has no fear of clay so it seems. Time has to show this but at least his is the rare american to go to quarters or clay court masters recently.

This is his first red clay season ever, dont forget. First time he came to europe to play on clay.

Not really, he played Barcelona, Estoril, Austria and of course Roland Garros last sping. First time in a Europe Masters clay event, yes, but not the first time on European clay.

Great win, although I noticed he wasn't sliding.

Anyways point stands, he is young and went deep here. Has wins vs Moya and gasquet which is pretty good. As for the sliding, well that is probably something he has to practise on. His movemen t is as expected not that good, but I loved the way he stood firm when Gasquet was virtually joking with him end of 1st and beg of 2nd set. Goes to say about both of them does it ?

I dislike Gasquet as a tennis player more and more as days go by.
