Thanks but no thanks. Don't like politically mixed tennis.

It was funny the Israelis put a guy into the doubles who makes Nalby to look anorexic.

And Israel won 3-2 even with the "Nalbylike" double player. Poor Johannson had a tough job, I don't recognise any other names in the Swedish team. Just as well no fans were allowed, the rioting outside was enough!

Sweden is just not good for tennis like it was in the days of Edberg, Wilander and hell Borg. Man Sweden has 3 number 1 guys..hmm wonder what country has the most..wait nvm has to be America I would guess.

Israel won after a good fight from Levi (who has a win against Smapras in his record).

I don't think any Davis Cup team has ever been as good as Sweden's team during the Edberg/Wilander era in the late 80's. Sweden were in 7 consecutive finals from 1983 to 1989, winning 3 of those.
And yes, America has most former nr 1 ranked guys.

Be careful there, Sampras worshippers will tear you apart. You have to remember the rules regarding sampras' matches,.. if it wasn't a slam match, that loss does NOT count. Even his defeat in slam matches were not legit..for instance, the one against Hewitt was because Sampras was tired. The loss against Safin was due to old age. The exo(not a slam) against Roger was very legit though.

They were amazing in Davis Cup play back in the day another guy who was great in Davis Cup play was Becker. It is sad that Davis CUp gets overlooked, Becker led his team sure Steeb was a decent player but Becker 89 was sheer epic won the singles, double and then that key match against Wilander in domination style 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 to put the icing on the cake. But the swedes were crazy also. 94 was also a heck of the year for the Swedes. They had good performances from 94-98 also. Oh those Swedes =]

The golden age of Swedish tennis will never rise again. Vinciguera has no real weapon and Pim Pim has a devastating game but is just too fragile physically. Both these guys are injured, which is funny because they haven't played an atp match since the year of the rat.

How is a win against Sampras takes anything away from him? If anything, it complements it. If you describe a good player with writing "defeated Sampras" on the side, it does nothing but show what a tennis legend he was, and what a big deal it was to beat him. Everyone lose eventually, that's one of the best parts about sports.
