"It was Just Out"......thats a sure sign you have just been hooked

or someone swings at a shot misses and says out

or someone istracking a ball and their body sort of jerks and they say "out"

I will call it as "just out," whether it was 1cm out or a foot. It's certainly not a sign of guilt; in my case I'll only call a ball out when I have absolutely no doubt it is long, meaning I probably never incorrectly call it out, but consequently continue playing a large number of points where a ball actually was long (and I'm 99% sure it was long). I'm there to have some fun playing tennis so I don't really care if the opponent's ball was 1cm long, even if it eventually results in me losing.

The tell-tale sign is in fact, as I have encountered several times against absolute tools, when the opponent shouts, "Oooooh, I think it just caught the line - take two."

Ummmmm....if something is one centimeter out I call it in !!!

but this is a good one: "Oooooh, I think it just caught the line - take two."

Tell-tale sign is making the call too quickly and not acknowledging by some means (like distance between thumb and forefinger) that it was close i.e. pretending too easily that it was not close and the call was very easy. If the ball was out by just an inch, look the opponent in the eye and tell him. He will respect you even if you were wrong.

If you need to think for a second more, take your time. Don't listen to the guys in the Adults forum with their "99% out is in" self-righteous moral lectures (they don't know how to evaluate it and they don't practice it themselves). Let your opponent know that you needed a second more to think about it. Most of the time, you should be awarding him the point as you are not sure, but it does not have to be all the time, as some argue in here.

Then listen to the woman in the Adults forum.

If you have to think about it, it means you are not sure.

If you are not sure, you are obligated to award the point to your opponent. Immediately.

I suspect that what you do is just call it out all the time so that you can lecture others on it and never face it yourself.
