wikepedia isn't the best place to find out about older players(unless you're talking about Laver or Rosewall or any of the bigger names)

Gimeno had a great record pre Open Era(& was over 30 when the Open Era started)

and he is discussed on the last page of this thread as well:

    http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=227694&page=31

in this thread he is given the equivalent of 4 majors(3 were pre open era)

He probably achieved more than Noah, Sabatini, Novotna, or Chang, but tennis just hasn't done a good enough job with its record keeping, so most fans today know close to nothing about most pre Open Era players. And don't forget his Davis Cup records.

maybe AndrewTas can tell us how many events he won(its certainly much higher than the 5 wikepedia gives him)

this thread should probably be in former pro player talk.

I wasn't throwing the HoF (or him) under the bus just for his selection - as you note their track record of late has gotten almost comical. It's becoming the equivalent of the Hollywood Walk of Fame where half the 'stars' pay for their place.

But I still don't think - using a real HoF criteria - as in great of the game who left a lasting impression - he merits induction. I'm sure he was a solid player - just not HoF worthy.

I thought there was a waiting period like the NFL, NBA and MLB. But I guess I was wrong. :?
