So, I saw this article about expats retiring in Ecuador, then I found out a friend of mine is moving to Cuenca. At the moment I'm just daydreaming about it, since I still have at least 7 years before I can retire, but does anyone know how the tennis is there ? My knees will be ready for clay courts by that time.

I'm sure there's a club somewhere in or around Cuenca since it's one of the relatively larger cities in Ecuador.

I found this one- Cuenca Tenis y Golf Club:

Seems like they've got a couple of red clay and hard courts.

    Any updates?

Now I'm curious because there's a possibility I'll be there for a month next year.

Have you been reading International Living? They always have Ecuador, Panama, etc. as the places where you can retire now. I'd be interested if you get more information on tennis in Cuenca, I'm just about ready to escape the Canadian winters for good.
