Are there any members of these forums that live or will be in Kauai from July 1-8. I'm going there to vacation in Princeville and want to train hard cuz there is a tourney starting the day after i return to Santa Barbara.

E-mail the Resort tonight! Leave a msg noting your rating and availability and you'll be surprised of the opponents lined up. I honeymooned in Poipu a few back and e-mailed the Sheraton + the Kiahuna Tennis Club and had some sound competion. Hawaiian tennis = play in the morning-evening. Aloha

Tried searching on Google for the e-mail of the Kiahuna Tennis Club but only found an old AOL address that no longer works.

Borisboris, got the e-mail of the Kiahuna Tennis Club handy?

Are you aware that Princeville is on the other side of the island? In Princeville (which is pretty much a resort center), there is the Hanalei Tennis Club which hosts NTRP tournaments although not while you're there. Check them at 808 826.6522; the resident pro is Eric Lutz.

Kiahuna has a nice matching program if you're willing to drive about 60-90 minutes to get there from Princeville.

Side note-- make sure you try the saimin at Hamura's in Lihue... don't forget the lilikoi pie... :)

The ownership changed recently. I'll look up the Kiahuna Plantation - tennis - and see what is available. The Princeville does have a nice tennis facillity - in fact - while honeymooning there in 01 we learned Andre & Steffi had recently vactioned and played there as was evidence on the pro shops wall = picture of the 2 autographed.

I used to live there and the distance is nothing. It's a 36 sq mile island!

    Posie...

Distance is negligible, if you use haole terms. Difference in atmosphere, culture, well....

Just got back from a week in Kauai, here's the tennis activity details:

$30/hr/person @ the Hyatt, 5-star appearance and surroundings; kind of expensive to play every day for a week; if you are a Hyatt guest, you get an hour free per day so a loophole for non-guests is to find a guest to play and then you can play for free.

$75 for a 9-10AM clinic (except Sundays) w/ the Hyatt tennis pro - Larry; cost is divided by number of players that show up; luckily, we played twice and got a good workout just for the two of us (my bro and I; 4.5 players).

For our non-instructional activity, we paid $60 for a 1-month couple membership to the Poipu Kai Tennis Club. We figured the cost of a single session for two players at the Hyatt paid for unlimited play at this club. 6 hard courts and 2 synthetic "grass" turf courts. Tue/Thu/Sun round-robin mixed doubles 3.5 play. Not recommended for solid 4.0 players and up. No lights at the club so we finished our evenings around 6:45PM.

Didn't check out the Kiahuna Tennis Club which probably had lights. It was 2-3x the distance away from our timeshare so we didn't bother checking that one out. Will check them out the next time we're in town. They have a reciprocity agreement with the Marriott Waiohai Vacation resort.

Didn't check out Princeville. Traffic is indeed quite slow around Lihue and getting out of Poipu. Even though the actual distance is only about 30mi to Princeville from the south shore, it will take you about an hour to get there.

Anyone going to be there, or know someone there that might want to hit?

Hey Russs. I see that's you're first post, Welcome!! That would be great to get some playing in. Hopefully it won't rain too much. In order to set something up, how bout you email me at granitechief@yahoo.com, so we can exchange contact info: names, cell #s, etc.

Have you been there before? It is so awesome there. We've always played at the Princeville tennis club in the past.

Looks like i'll be in Kauai again and would like to set up some more tennis if possible. So why not put the word out, right? It worked before. Should be able to find time between surfing the north shore to get some matches in.

    It will be Nov 4-12.

Off by a month for me, i'll be there for the week stradling July 4th. I haven't come across anything but hard courts there, although i'm sure there are some clay courts hiding out somewhere.

The volley up the line actually worked pretty good a few times. Partnered with Talmadge, played Heath and Chris Ho, lost 6-3, 6-4. Had a breakpoint each game they served for the set. I held, Talmadge was 1 for 4. Overall pretty tight, but they tee'd off on my partners serve. Fun match. The up the line 1st volley worked good cuz chris crosses like a mad man on every point. Fun stuff.

Nice Result...thats a tough team to face without much serving help from the partner. I'm probably out one more week but it's a long season...

I'll be at the Hyatt in Koloa from Mar 14-16. I'm about a 4.0/4.5 player; 30 y.o. male. anyone interested in hitting? I get 1 hour for free at the Hyatt. I'd be willing to play other places too (I won't have a car though).

    Thanks.

Have a great trip and stop by the Princeville tennis club around 4pm for drop in doubles.

We're going again June 30 - July 7 if anyone happens to be there (north shore) and want to play tennis.
