HOLY SCHEISSE! I just saw 16+ green clay courts at the Central Park on Google Earth. Who's down to challenge me on clay?

I live a rock's throw away from Manhattan, but the free courts are all out east. I'll play you, but if you want a nice clay court experience, I say we head over to Hempstead Lake Park in Nassau county. I'll even pick you up from west 57th if you like.

What is the best day and time you are free to play? I am in Brooklyn, and will see if I can take some time off to hit with you, And play at 4.0 too.

    Hello!

I will be free all day on Fri, Sat and Sun. I would prefer to play on clay, and of course I am willing to pay the court fees. If you know of any clay courts around the area, shoot me an email!

Lee, depend how you get here from midtown, subway, cab or car service? Public hardcourt is where I play most and weekend is very crowded. If you likes clay, there are nice redclay at upper westside. Permit cost about 7 bucks a person per hour. Let me call the place and see if reservation require on weekend.

If I free to play, I'll see you in Manhattan.

Penang, are you talking about the Riverside Clay TEnnis association? It is $7 for the whole day, accoridng to the website. Yeah I would love to play on clay, since I have only been playing on hard courts here in California...

No, it's not 7 bucks for the whole day. You get a $7 day pass and you sign up for an hour of play. You get a day pass at a different location. Playing in NYC parks is quite different from playing in other public courts because court time is not actually free. Lee, if my car is fixed by Friday, I'll take you to a good court so hang tight and don't believe the hype about 7 bucks for a day. The upper west side is not an inexpensive place like you're thinking...except for the upper, upper west side aka Harlem.

Lee, I'm all set to roll. How about Friday noon at Riverside if weather is fine. Or if you and others have arranged to play in Long Island I don't mind to join in if you guys want doubles.
I played at Central Park this afternoon to check out the court which is not far from Riverside. Both location at 96 street. Weekend is impossible unless you only want to hit for an hour. Always crowded. If you have plenty of time during your stay and by yourself just go to Central Park, easy to get invited to play when a court short of player.

Good luck with your job interview.

    Penang,

I am meeting my fraternity brother for lunch @ Greenwich village on Friday. I would LOVE to play on Friday afternoon, how does 2pm sound? I have never taken the subway in NYC before. Should i just take the taxi? do we need to make the reservations? where would you like to meet up? call my cell at (510) 295-7337 by Thursday night so we could finalize the plan!

Uh oh! People are already fighting over Lee's time. Lee, you are the man because nobody else who's posted about tennis travel has had people coming out to meet him. NYC and its surrounding boroughs has a lot of TW posters so that's why you'll find more options here. Hope to meet you Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Peace.

Lee, I'm so sorry about today, but this mechanic told me I'd have the car by 5 pm. I'm glad you got my message in time and although this rainy NY day fell through, we'll find the time to make your west coast trip a success here. Thanks to gscone for his willingness to come out, good lookin out, buddy. We have 2 more days to put something together. I won't have a car this weekend, but somehow we'll find a way to make things work.
