Would anyone be interested in me seeding the Grosjean V Lopez match at rome. I haven't watched it and don't know if its any good.

The quality is low because its on a cheap capture card. The size could be anywhere from 300- 1 gig depending on how much I compress it.

Part of me has been wishing that something like the Tennis Channel would actually implement a broadband/online strategy as opposed to cable. However, the technology isn't really primed to make this excellent live (but it could live on delay and repeaters). Also, the image quality of streamed material would have to improve to actually capture the speed and clarity of what's going on.

However, being able to have access to archived matches would be wonderful and could work. Some formats have worked (surprisingly, some real-encoded highlights have turned out above decent), but some need more work (I don't like how they're compressing the ATP's shot of the week videos, I often can't really see the ball that well at all).

Perhaps sooner than we think, online sports broadcasts will be the wave of the future. However, it would be annoying to see how much subscription and access fees would be--I can imagine some networks securing strict rights and raping the consumers up the rear. And maybe even loading up the advertisements.

For now, modded TIVOs are sort of like hybrid cars. A darn good step in between. Would be nice to be able to distribute TIVO material (maybe that's what the DVD Recorders + TIVO boxes are for  ).

AND YES, I WOULD LOVE ANY MATCH THAT WAS POSTED ONLINE!!! THANKS FOR EVEN CONSIDERING IT!

IDEA: Maybe tennis fans should unite and establish a bittorrent site for match distribution from all over!!! Of course we would need some people dedicated to seeding and keeping some files in the loop, particularly good but not necessarily the most popular of matches.

You will probably need to download a new encoder to watch this movie. It will be around 420 megs for the whole match. If people like the matches then perhaps I will invest in some better tv capture equipment.

Once I have finished encoding it. I will post the Bittorent link.

I know nothing about technology, butI do know that in the ST. Petersburg site 3 years ago they had movie quality live streaning of matches and the closing ceremony. It was absolutely amazing, better that tv, just like seeing a film. How they did it is beyond me but some enterprising webmasters did it. So there is no reason why all the tournaments couldn't be shown live on the internet for everyone to be able to see on subscription, and effectively put TTC out of business. Any entrepreneurs here?

PA, thank you very much for this. I finished downloading half a day ago and I'll be leaving the window open for probably another day or two at least, maybe the entire weekend. And I can randomly pop back on as a peer in the future like next week or something.

Im using a Pinnacle rave capture card. Its pretty low budget hardware. I might be tempted to upgrade since I have some spare cash around. Although im not sure how great the quality increase would be.

As for other matches... sorry I only have the matches which I capture off my TV. I do hope to record the Rome masters final though, if im around.

For those who are getting error. I think this is because the tracker has died. Im not sure if it will come back up or not. So I guess I will stop hosting this match.

I hope whoever managed to get a copy is pleased with it. Im not sure if people would like better quality at the expense of size. Perhaps I will make it around 700 megs a match in future.

Thanks PhatAbbott for captured this match, i hope to see others in the future.
It's a little bit sad to see not a lot of people at rome to see match of the first second even 3 round... but it's true that the quality of playing is not fantastic for a master serie...
You can go for a 700Mo , the quality will be a lot better and if you can try to elevate you framing rate and it will be perfect :D
I can put the one semi finale of rome for tomorrow and the finale too but like i've got a radeon card i don't know about what codec the card will use so will it be working to watch for others i don't know...

I have heard that is a good card. DivX would be good, but I find it has some wavy bits when the ball goes side to side. If you don't have any encoders use the one from the link I provided.

For software Vdub is a very good program if you know what your doing. Its pretty simple to configure and has lots of options.

I couldn't capture with a very high frame rate without loosing frames with that program though. Although I think I have found a program that will be ok now.

    Heres the Vdub link.

I wish I taped the Moya - Pavel match because Moya was screaming !! His shots were great.

Either I don't understand how BitTorrent works, or I missed it (it says connection to tracker timed out).

Either way, I think it may be better to post smaller chunks (e.g., separate sets) of best-possible-quality captures then the whole game at a small resolution. Makes it easier to analyze the technique.

I tried to make my Thinkpad A30p into a video capture machine (it has an S-Video in), but it stubbornly refused :(.

Juu. The resolution is the problem. Like I said I have only a very low budget capture card. 352-288 is the highest resolution it will go.
Also im not sure if you know how long it takes to capture and edit these files. After capture it usually takes 30 minuets to cut the commercials and trim the file down. Then another hour or so to encode it. Then the trouble of sharing it with everyone else. So splitting into sets would be very tedious.

I really hope I can get a new card and increase the quality. Because I like looking at the techniques and the styles. Aswell as watching the matches.

PhatAbbott, I see, I had forgotten about the editing needing to be done.

Actually, I'd think framerate is more important than resolution. But that is also hardware limited.

Either way, I appreciate your effort...
