Tennis on Campus - Spring Invitationals footage

College clubs tennis competed in this national event, here is footage of UCI vs Cal Poly Pomona. WTT tennis is formatted with Men's and Women's Doubles, then singles and mixed. However it goes by # of games won not sets, so you can lose all the doubles and singles and still win the match bc of mixed.

If you are down in mixed (lets say 8 games) and your school wins the mixed 6-3. You are now down by 5 games. But since you won the mixed you can continue playing to tie the score. If you lose any of those 5 games after the mixed to tie it up, you automatically lose. But if you win consecutively those 5 games to level the game scores of your teams, the match is decided by a 7 point tiebreaker, no ad. Mixed doubles is probably the most important match bc you can win/lose bc of it.

Were you there? We didn't play against either of those schools, but we did play UCLA in groups. I also mistakenly thought you were on USC.

At this level, a crucial break can decide a match as shown by your singles match.

This format is crazy. I hate that you get such a short warmup and then play a short match, but I like how intense it can be score-wise.

We lost to Oregon by a game, UCLA by 8-10, and Wisconsin by a few. Mixed can be pretty nerve wracking if the whole team match is on your shoulders.

New Mexico State. We stayed at the La Quinta, which most of the teams were at. It was a lot of fun! That is a pretty good result though. We consistently lost a lot of matches by a few games haha.

Man I remember tennis on campus! I actually played some of the best tennis of my life during club tennis. Very, very strange format though.

I used to play for University of New Mexico. Did you know a guy named Franco by any chance? He is my brother in law and he played for NMSU.

You mean from the player party? That was Matt from University of New Mexico! He is a pretty cool guy. We are buddies with most of the guys on UNM even though it is supposed to be a rivalry.

I don't know if this would help, but I was the guy getting people to play frisbee at the pool. Me and a few other people were throwing it around a couple of nights, and we got a lot of people to dive and try to catch it jumping into the water.

Franco is awesome! My freshman year was his last year at NMSU I believe, but I played against and with him in a few matches and tournaments that year.

I assume you are Chelsea's brother then? I also know a few older players from UNM too like david, tony, and amy.

Nice! No, Chelsea is my wife's sister. I am I think 1 year older than Toni so I probably left before you started. Did you know a guy named Audry or Aubry? I played him a few times I believe.

Yeah! Aubry was another older player that was there my first and maybe second year. He is a pretty cool guy. The only player left on our team from the "old days" is a really big guy named Zach. He may have been playing when you were there. He is like 6'6 with a big serve.

Don't remember him. We should hit if you are ever in the Albuquerque area!

I didn't this time, but I have brought one before. Soccer tennis can be pretty fun if the courts allow us to play it.

I'm also graduating this semester :( But maybe i'll play for whatever med school I go to the following year if my eligibility isn't up.
