Tim Henman did.
Funny- Tim Henman never looked like he did lol!
David Ferrer is a chain smoker, he was smoking a few in his match against Murray in Madrid.
Yannick Noah used to when he was playing
Rosie Casals was a smoker. Of course she hasn't played in quite a while.
Relevant article here on sportsmen/women smoking..(including mention of Ferrer).
And who was the guy that had a really wacky looking lefty serve that wore goggle looking glasses. They showed him on the Best of 5, Different Strokes episode on Tennis Channel playing Sampras at Wimbledon I believe. I think he was from Germany, played late 80's early 90's. He was a chain smoker and even lit up on changeovers!
David Ferrer aka The Chimney.
Yep, that's him, Karsten Braasch, he was a constant chain smoker!!
It's a well known fact that Ferrer is a fiend for nicotine.
that's funny...i always enjoy a post-match smoke and everyone looks at me like i'm crazy...glad to hear some pros do the same
the real question is who enjoys a doobie? I think there could be a few stoners on the tour.
Not with the drug testing they do now. Just ask Gasquet.
Ferrer smokes currently? pics or didn't happen...
Ferrer is a health nut, he doesn't smoke, I don't know why they say he does
Ferrer is known to light up a few between changeovers.
In fact, he is one of the few players who probably looks forward to rain delays (as long as a covered patio is nearby).
Yup, that's one of the reasons why, since the new roof, he now requests not to play on centre at wimbledon, the other being of course that there's no smoking in enclosed public places in England anymore.

It's been mentioned numerous times on other threads & currently this one-Karsten Braasch---Marlboro Reds. Had them in his pocket & hand about 6-7 years ago when I got his autograph & posed for pictures @ the US Open qualifying.
David F probably does it when no one's watching. Read somewhere that Amelie Mauresmo used to smoke-I know her coach did.
He didn't smoke on the court....
Yeah there was a dude who like broke every rule at the public courts. There's a big sign posted that says no smoking or alcohol on the courts and you must wear clothing.
Dude lit up on the courts with a Miller lite and played with his shirt off.
Didn't much care since we were left like 10 minutes after he got there.
I don't smoke cigs, but Hookah every now and then is fun.
Wonder if Rosie ever asked Billie Jean....."Pardon me, do you mind if I smoke, while you eat"?
Ferrer??? For a smoker he runs down every ball.
Me and gulbis blaze that **** up everyday.
No. But if he did, I'm sure you could give him some tips.
ferrer is really a smoker? how did i not know this! my mind is boggled right now.
On the challengers and futures, I find a lot of European players smoking, and often almost chain smoking. It's annoying for other players -- hard to find a smoke-free area to rest after/before one's match.
Really? I find that surprising. I've been smoke-free for over 1 year now, and I can say that smoking is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. I can't imagine a pro athlete's performance not being affected by it.
Cedric Pioline still plays a fair bit of tennis on the senior tour. I know he was smoking outside the Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago when he won the year end Masters event. Sampras even made a joke about it during their semifinal.
Wow, so disapointed to find out that Ferrer smokes. I would never have wondered that... Safin is not a surprise, but David Ferrer? After years seeing the guy run out every single ball the last thing you would imagine him would be as a smoker.
Btw, no one should be glad to find out that other sportsman smoke as well... there aren't many things more anti-sportistic than that.
Again, pics of Ferrer smoking or it didn't happen...
I love the quote from the wiki:
"Braasch competed in a 'Battle of the Sexes' contest against Venus Williams and Serena Williams at the 1998 Australian Open when he was ranked 203. A decade and a half older than the sisters, Braasch "was a man whose training regime centred around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple bottles of ice cold lager." He nonetheless handily defeated the sisters in an individual set, 6–1 on Serena, 6–2 on Venus, while rubbing it in by smoking cigarettes during the changeover."
My understanding was that he also polished off a few beers mid way through the second set...
Because of course, he is followed by paparrazzi non-stop outside of the court.
Btw these are clean, smoker or non-smoker.
Anyone heard of Ion Tiriac ?
Doesn't look like he smokes there...
or that he dopes.
There is no way Tim Henman smoked.
Yea, he doesn't look it at all... we need pics here!
My dad, lol.He would go out to the courts wearing cut-off suit pants, black dress socks, shoes held together by Shoe Goo, and a ratty golf shirt, and run me around the court without the slightest effort. He kept a lit cigarette going on the sideline at all times, though he could have probably held it while he played and still destroy me with zero effort.
He was/is a really talented player, but he switched to golf about 20 years ago and hardly looked back. I always thought he moved to golf because it came so easily for him, and because he regularly comes home with everybody else's money. But it just occurred to me for the first time that his big switch might have had something to do with being able to smoke more freely while he plays...
Ok more known tennis players that smoke
Count me in. I love a post match doobie, or hell a doobie any time of day really.
Separate names with a comma.
