I used to love my Nike tennis skirts from a couple years ago but now the fabric they use is so thin and the skirts are super short. I am too kind to my fellow humans to wear these skirts and my advanced age of 40... Does anybody out there have a good recommendation for skirts that are made of a more substantial material and that are long enough (say 14") to preserve my modesty?

Recently I bought this skirt and I love love love it. I love it so much I've been wearing it hiking as well as for tennis:

it's longer than many of my other skirts (at first I was concerned it might be too long, but it's not), and I think you'll feel it keeps your modesty in tact. I bought it in white, and the material is thick and abundant (I've had problems with other brands' white material being a little too see-through).

It comes in gold, maroon, and bright pink, as well as black & white. If you get the gold, will you let us know what you think? I like the skirt so much I've considered purchasing another color.

Don't they make skirts with pockets anymore? I hate skorts!

I think that hideously ugly stella mccartney skirt has pockets AND is not a skort!

    Annika,

Skirts are definitely in the minority these days with most having the built-in shorts. In addition to the Stella skirt Inga mentioned, the one we have with pockets right now is from Lacoste:

Wilson skorts have an external ball pocket. I guess you could try cutting out the shorts. I haven't tried it myself, though, and don't know what the results would be.

The Bolle basics are pretty nice and not too short. Here are a couple of different styles:

I use the Bolle skirts (without attached shorts). I have a whole bunch of them in different colors. The fabric is a good weight, and I have never once had to discard one due to wear.

The length is pretty short, though. It doesn't bother me because I am short, but it won't give you a lot of coverage. If skirts get much longer than this, they will constrain my movement.

The new Pure Lime skirts look long-ish - their stuff is always top quality.
