I think Robert Kendrick will be down there tomorrow night from 6-9 playing a World Team Tennis type format. Details are sketchy, so I'll try and find out more.

It is of course your choice but I wouldnt do it if I were you. You will press more playing a tournament match versus regular match. You could also end up with another injury if you start compensating for the pain. I am sure you really want to play but might be better to think long term.

I hurt my shoulder trying to hit a heavy serve into the corner last year during a tournament and my arm still isnt 100 percent. I went into that tournament with what I thought was a healed bicep tendonitis problem.

On the other hand, you can pop enough pain pills and if it hurts in the match, forfeit. If you start at 8:30 though make sure you really warm up. I'd even buy a heating pad/wrap for your arm to use before you play.

I'm not going to push it. I have no problem with forfeiting a match. I like supporting the tournament because Frank is a good guy and he puts on a great tournament. I've been either heating my arm or putting it in a neoprene sleeve on my 20 minute drive up there before I hit.

One more thing, I have the exact same pain in my left arm after serving on Sunday, so I'm starting to think I need to take a lesson to have somebody check out my serve. I may not be tossing the ball far enough into the court.

Were you and bad_call a good matchup?

mikeler - good matchup. spinz limited with shoulder, me limited with mobility. good rallies but no match play. seems like we both left tired and that's a good day for me. :)

I hear ya. I've packed on a few pounds during my hiatus, so it felt great to get out there last night and sweat a little of it out.

One great thing about rallying and why I try to do just that 2 times a week - it burns calories like crazy. After rallying for months and adding matches in more and more, I have gotten a lot leaner and more defined. I love matches, but I will always rally just for the raw exercise factor. I don't know anything that can beat 2 hours of hitting out.

I'm going to do more rallying and doubles in the short term. Anybody planning on checking out the semis or finals this weekend? It's always nice to meet more members.

Me and my main hitting partner here in the neighborhood never play matches. Only serious hitting and working on different parts of the game. We do it 2-3 times a week. Right now with it getting dark so early - we usualy only get in an hour, but durring the summer we usually go 2+. It is great cardio and certainly helps in matches - especially playing two in a day or even 4 in a weekend. I always feel that my conditioning is an advantage. I've seen many guys melt late in the 2nd set. Hint - his name starts with an M - LOL

You are dead meat pal! :) I'm doing sprints now in addition to tennis. See you in the finals with the 40 degree "no gas out" weather! BTW, Clint in your draw is a really good player. He can give the Champ fits when he is on.

Email the name to me and I'll ask around in the morning. I did hear he got a set off Robert Kendrick :) I will have you know that I've won a number of 3 setters in my career by grinding them out. This is of course BK.

I dont have the name. Frank just said he was a high school kid. I guess thats why I got the late court time. It actually works pretty good with work. He said I might play a second match. How can that possibly happen? I definitely dont want to play under the lights. They are calling for 60% rain on Friday.

Bad Call and I stayed out there for awhile for sure. Some of my hits like to play sets or elevens or whatever so its good to do it all. The only thing that can bother me about rallying too much is that I'll start hitting to the person too much which isnt great in a match.

Any notable players in the Men's Open?

Serve problems that cause injury or injuries that bring on serve problems can be very subtle and it takes a really good pro to pick up on it IMO.

Actually there is a good DVD from the Serve Doctor. I think its around $25. It is one of those DVDs that requires multiple viewings in that you watch it again a month later and get something else out of it.

Bad Call can get some heat on his serve!

Yeah, I like Bad Call's serve. We practiced a lot of serve and returns and I like doing stuff like that. It really helps to work on things that a lot of people gloss over.

Well I lost the first set 6-4 after being up a break. Was up 4-1 in the 2nd set and hit a few serves that were so painful I just quit. Just hitting and doubles for me the next few weeks.

Not sure if I want to mention full names, but Vlad is the top seed in the Open. Current ATP ranking is 598, last year he got up to 368.

I just got back from there. I saw Vlad play Carlos. Vlad is a beast. Period. The guy does not miss a sitter and is really tall. If he pushed carlos out wide and made him hit a weak return, it was over everytime.

On Court 1 I saw a kid named Patrick playing another guy. They were pretty good players, but both made some dumb mistakes. The guy playing Patrick looked more solid at the time I was watching.

Court 5 was akid from Greece playing a muscular guy named (I think) Jason. Jason was pretty good but he was getting housed. The Greece guy was real cocky. Before the match he was complaining because saying Jason was late. He said he didn't need to do this tourney and would rather spend time with his GF (who was sitting there) and take the default. Once Jason showed up, the guy ended up acting cool and polite, and he had a real nice forehand and also touch. He liked to get fancy and try to finish points with drop shots, which I think was due to not taking it seriously. He would look over and wink at his GF between points, and the whole thing to me was highly entertaining. He was up 3-0 when I left.

I ve never seen or met Patrick but I believe his of Brazilian descent and plays/teaches at Grand Cypress. He is good friends with several guys I play with. He beat Daniel Matos yesterday.

Yes Patrick I think is Brazilian and his parents were there too. He is definitley good. I am not sure if he won today or not. He was making some mistakes and his opponent looked pretty solid. They both called the lines pretty loose and I liked that.

Patrick teaches up at OTC with Frank. He made the quarters last year.

I have pictures of the draws on my phone from this morning. If I have time, I'll post them today or I can e-mail them.

PP, I must have just missed you. What time did you get there? Are you planning on going again anytime during the next 3 days?

Right now, they are trying to get a bunch of matches in today and then schedule everything for early tomorrow since the rains are supposed to move in later.

I was there from 12-1. I was picking up a racquet from Frank. Blonde guy with shades and grey shirt &jeans. I want to go back tomorrow. but the weather sounds like it will be awful.

Im glad I went. It got me really fired up to play.

Just got home. Played under the lights. First match was against 16 yr. 6-4-6-3 - didnt played particularly well. Started second match at 7. Won 6-3 - 6-2, played better but still have to step up my game. Play Clint at 9 - weather permitting. I guess Shawn had an upset. Having a beer - going to bed.

Looks like most of the heavy stuff will stay to the south. Those clay courts take about 3 hours or more to dry.

If there is no more rain, I could see matches starting at 2 or 3 PM. Clint has a Verdasco like 2 handed backhand. Luckily his forehand is flat unlike Verdasco.

There is 2 divisions right? Was patrick in the semi pro one? I think all I saw was semi pro matches. There were guys playing further down that looked like rec players, but I didnt really see much of them. I was at court 1 for a bit then courts 5 and 6.

Patrick would destroy the Club division players! You probably did see mostly Open players.
