There has been a lot of chatter about it the last few years. The City could potentially save the tennis courts and recreation center I suppose. Another option that I heard was to build a new center over by the executive airport. At this point, everything is just hearsay.

That would be cool too. The park near that aiport is pretty dead. When I was a kid, and the Navy Base was there, it was a nice park but not really any more.

But building a new place would take some time, so they need a plan. They are currently building a biking park across the street from there and it is going to take a year to do.

It would take at least 3 years to plan and construct a new center the way government works. So far I have not heard any plans of them shutting the facility down.

PP, do you have to be a member to reserve a clay court at Winter Park? OTC is closed this weekend for a charity tournament.

No. I think you can call ahead. I would definitley give it a shot. I am not sure what time you are playing though. It gets busy in the morning, but there are open courts after 12.

^^^ How far in advance do you have to call for a reservation?

Played this morning at 8 AM. I was up a break in all 3 sets but ended up losing all of them 6-4 playing 2 sets of singles and 1 set of dubs. I played very aggressive today since my movement is not at 100%. I hit a lot of winners but just made too many errors. It's kind of fun just blasting balls!

I tried using the same toss for 1st and 2nd serves today. I only had 1 double fault until the last 2 service games in singles where I threw in 3 more. I'm pretty sure I did not DF at all playing dubs. So I think I'm going to continue serving like that next match. My ace count goes down but so does my DF count.

I'd call asap just to see if you can do it. They will pencil you in and its done.

Sorry I have nto contacted anyone yet to play at OTC. I am still learning how to string and it has affected my game. Basically the one stick I have that Frank did is strung at the right tension that I am used to. It's easy to hit exactly how I am used to, but those strings are past dead.

I am losing so much tension on my own string jobs that I am just not myself with my own string jobs yet. A lot of the issue is tension loss due to me not starting the mains right and my clamps sucking. Starting the mains right is about figured out, but I may have to get better floating clamps to get everything right.

It would not be crazy to say that my sticks tensions are lower then 50#s right now. It's crazy bad ( I hit at 62) and I have to fix it.

^^^ Did anyone ever come over to help you out? I've never used a drop weight, so I'm not sure how much help I would be getting the tension correct.

Well I am not sure if I need help anymore. I may upgrade machines to a fixed clamp if I can. Some of this stuff is just experience and some of it is that the gear is not up to snuff.

What machine did you get again? Im pretty shocked about how much trouble your having.

Unless the clamps you got are slipping severely I can't visualize what the problem could be with a dropweight stringer.

I know Bob has tried Head Sonic Pro strings but has anybody else here used it? Maxim Touch came out with a "reformulated" version that has fraying issues. Plus, my elbow is almost healed so I'd like to get a little more durability if I can.

Why not use synthetic gut? Its soft and has more durability.

The clamps ARE slipping a lot. That's the main problem. Everything else I have figured out. I got a starting clamp and can start my mains the right way now. I had tension loss pretty bad the first few times because I did not start the mains the right way (I did what the manual says which is not really the way to go). But the clamps still slip a little even when tight and they mark the strings. It sucks because I have this really nice looking typhoon and BAM staring at me and I'd like to string it up at my tension and hit. I may take them apart and sand them down.

Unless you have an Alpha string Pal you probably have no way to relate to the situation. Their clamps are really bad. Their gripper and drop weight arm is fantastic though.

It's great. It came in a Radical that I bought and was suprisingly good. It is a Poly though and will die and hurt your arm. I think you should try Head Rip Control.

PP - have read that folding a business (paperstock not hard plastic credit...duh) card around the string and clamping on that works for slipping clamps. btw - are those flying or fixed clamps?

Synthetic gut has more durability than a poly?

So it still bothers your arm? OK, that is a deal breaker then. I'll try the new Maxim Touch, but I can't stand strings that fray and it looks like this new version does just that. The MT now gives you no indication of when it will break. It just snaps. I love that!

Yeah you would be going full poly if you went with that string. The BAM hybrid with Stamina..The BAMINA, if you will (haha) is the best. Zero arm pain and max spin. And I string tight. You should try that out.

BC they are floating clamps. I am going to get a high quality triple clamp and sand down my alpha clamps. I am hearing that will fix the problem. As for the basic stringing operation, I have had that down for weeks. I just did not realize the tension loss I had until I went back to a Frank strung racquet. It was dramatic, so I had to make some changes.

More than multi. At least they do for me. Just figured might as well work your way up to poly as gradually as possible.

I see what you mean now. Play with a synthetic for awhile instead of jumping to poly. I was only thinking about poly for the mains btw.

Played ping pong today at lunch and I'm officially better left handed. I did not lose a game of singles as a lefty but went 50/50 as a righty.

Did you guys see in the article in the Sentinel about plans for the old arena, including OTC. It sounds like they plan on rebuilding the tennis facility in the same location - along with a major re-development plan for the area. Just another way to spend money they dont have.

The 3D rendering only shows a few hard courts. Frank told DT that no developer wants to maintain clay, so let's enjoy the dirt while we can. The article implies that the developer will assume all the risk of the project so it sounds like a good deal for the City.

The last few evenings it has been beautiful at 5 PM. I'm playing tomorrow at Alaqua Lakes clay courts. They were nice courts last time I played there. OTC is having a tournament. I tried calling Winter Park this morning and all their clay courts were taken. I'll probably have to call them again about Sunday. I'm not sure my knee can take the pounding of a hard court just yet.

I'll be there. Told the guy who usually plays with his son that I would play a set though. Getting over a cold so going to take it "easy" but I played SO well early this week. Beat a ~4.25 estimated player and beat a ranked 5.0 in a best of 5 sets.

    Look out Madrid . . .

Found out the deal on booking at Azalea. Members can call 2 days in advance at 2 PM. Non-members can only pick up what is left by calling the day before.

If you guys haven't been at Sanlando this week, you've been missing out: the NCAA Div. II Nationals are here. I've been stringing here the last 3 days, but have gotten to see a little good tennis. Finals are tomorrow: women at 9am, men at 1pm, I believe.

I will try to get there before 5 and spread on courts 1 and 2. I am not really happy when we play next to that abrasive guy on court 3. We definitely need 2 courts.

So far we have: Coyfish, UA, Goran, Bob.

Javi where are you man? :)

Only 1 double fault today! Woohoo.

I was up 6-4 and had 3 match points in the 2nd set tiebreaker but could not convert. 2.5 hours for 2 sets of tennis, it was a great workout. Azalea was completely full when we left.
