Also, nice hitting today TWCFC! I think we should all get a black bandana or something. It'd look badass if 5-6 of us all wore the same bandana:D:D:D

Played a guy this morning who the Gator took out last night. Obviously the Gator did not wear him out enough because he was all over my 2nd serve today. Speaking of Gators, watching the football game now. Not a good start...

I should have stayed away from OTC today. Whatever is opposite of "being in the zone" would best describe this morning.

This was posted in another thread... what level do you think they are (one guy is significantly better than the other 3) and how do you think we'd do against them?

The forehand is hit or miss depending on the day but my backhand almost never goes in the toilet. Once I can't hit that shot I know I'm in for a long day. I hit more 2 handers yesterday than I have in a long time.

I passed on your cell number to the guy I played yesterday who you also played dubs with. He's a good guy, very reliable and has been improving since he started playing on clay.

I ended up finding another great place to play tennis on Sat. Azalea was completely booked all day. So we went to Rollins College. Super relaxing place to hit, I actually prefer it for hitting during the day now.

Only problem was the heat was intense. We lasted 45 minutes. On court temp was 110.

Yeah, hardcourts. I played on clay last night and sucked it up. Lost every duece point and just could not hit anything. Sucks because I played a high level pusher, but it is someone I should easily beat. It's definitley not the clay's fault.

A bad day in tennis is brutal.

Those Rollins courts always looked inviting but I was under the impression that they were off limits for non students.

Pp do you have rollins student Id?

Last night was crazy with the wind. I do love the hot and dry weather though. A little less humidity makes a huge difference in the conditions to me. The ball just flies off your racket on every shot. Plus, not being completely covered in sweat makes it much easier to hold on to your stick.

Held serve all match against a good returner so that was nice but then it dawned on me. My last 2 victories were because I held serve the entire match. In my many recent losses, it usually only takes me getting broken once or twice to lose the set. Kind of depressing take on how bad my return game is. I'm going to just start going for my returns instead of always chipping them back. It will suck for my opponents because I'm going to miss a lot, but I have to improve that part of my game.

Coyfish, I play as much as I can w/out my GF *****ing at me..haha.

I was up there on Saturday morning. I do not have a student ID or anything, so there is a slight feeling of rebellion in the air when you hit at Rollins. :) I think the best times to hit are the weekends because nobody really seems to care then. The rest of the time between OTC and Azalea I can always find an open court during the week. I try to play Monday-Wednesday then fridays sometimes and Sat AM. That seems to be my schedule at the moment, but Sundays could be opening up for a bit also.

I've got one of those Magic gyms a mile down from my work that I can use for free, so I'm probably going to start working out at lunch. A bunch of people here have been taking advantage of that place for months. Anybody got any tennis related work outs?

I don't know if it is tennis related, but I try and increase my weight each set and don't go super heavy anymore. I used to lift closer to 300 pounds on bench/deads and squats and now I hang out at 225-250 to spare my joints. So basically you want to hit around 85% at your peak instead of going for the 100%-110% on those lifts. This seems to really help keep me healthy out on the courts.

But my workout is basically the push day, pull day and then squat day with extras like shoulders/shrugs/triceps. So I work those muscles a little more per week. I don't do a full legs day anymore due to tennis.

Yeah I was just thinking of doing upper body workouts.

In totally unrelated news, a co-worker of mine just showed me the funniest video. He hired a guy to remove a hornet's nest from his yard. He asked the guy why he was not wearing a bee suit. The guy told him if you stand perfectly still and show no fear, they won't mess with you. The guy stood still for about 15 seconds and then he got nailed and ran! Would be a great video for Tosh.O.

Looking forward to playing the next 2 days. Glad the Gator had a competitive match with the guy I played last weekend. He has gotten so much better just by playing all the guys down at OTC. I think the clay has taught him to be more patient too.

I gotta get more OTC action. I love the clay courts and the fact that guys play right after 5 instead of late nights.

    Hitting Partner Oct 8-12

My office and I will down in Orlando for the ADA meeting next month, and it dawned on me that I could use the forums to find a hitting partner. I'm a 5.0 player from the Iowa District, so I'd be interested in hitting with a 4.5 or up. I'll have some seminars during the day, but I'd love to sneak some tennis in at night. We're renting a house in Davenport, but I'd be willing to meet up to hit. If anyone's interested, please email me at jfeehan@gmail.com

    Thanks,
    John

Close to an hour to downtown. You may be able to find somebody on the south side of town though. As for NTRP, there are several of us that are 4.5 to 5.0s.

Finished my first set at 9:22 AM today with an 8 AM start. It was a battle but I came up just short losing the breaker 7-5. Didn't have time to finish the 2nd set but I was down 5-3.

Broke a lot of serves today at Rollins. A lot of Azalea players have defected because the courts must be slammed. Rollins was about full too, but I got in 2.5 hours.

It is TOUGH to get up in the AM and play good tennis for me. I have to keep trying it, but I have trouble playing well and maintaining energy.

I posted this a bunch of times people are probably sick of reading it, but I hurt my wrist biking and had to go lighter. I was hitting with the 4ds and just reggravating my wrist over and over. It was a nice ride..used them about a year. And yeah, I had 4...lol. I gave one to my Dad and sold the rest.

I used Tecnifibre before so I just went back to it. The Tfights were the first sticks I bought in 15 years after getting back into tennis. I loved everything about the racquets except how they eat strings. Since I have my own stringer now, that's not an issue.

Mikeler, I imagine you are correct. I am going to try and play every Sat AM and just get used to it. My body is so conditioned to evening tennis I guess.

Oh I remember you hurting your wrist biking but didn't realize the dunlop was aggravating it.

Glad the tflight is working for you. My friend has one and its an awesome racquet.

I'd definitely be willing to drive to get some tennis in, considering my time in Florida will be spent talking about teeth. Friday Oct 9th would be a great option, since we should be all situated by 4 p.m., otherwise, later in the evening the other nights could work well too.

^^ could you bring your teeth cleaning tools with you? mine are fine but have a bit of tartar buildup.

btw - think i'm a 4.0 but the standards here are different i've read.

You are probably closer to a 4.5.
