wow didnt expect to see you here. at least you are getting paid. you playing singles or dubs?
i need new bathing suit.....i got new towels though
Sorry, no USO party this summer. I am in East Asia and suffering from the heat and air pollution. Why do you want me to stop drinking? And how are you?
Hiya! Thought I'd check in on things, only to find some shenanigans regarding my animated avatar, what the heck, man?! Been on a fierce grapefruitini and Moscow mule kick!
Played dubs last night! What's this about a US Open party? Maybe I'll host! We can have some daytime hitting at the Hall of Fame!
sorry the USO party is for exclusive members only
you live by the hall of fame?!
oh snap doko ni desu
That's not very nice. Plus, the party don't start 'til I walk innnnn. Everybody knows that.
Yes, I do live in close proximity to the HOF. Love the grass!
oo i guess i didnt get the memo.
thats so neat. how much is it to play there?
今いる場所教えて上げられないんだ. ごめんね, ざぷぼる. 俺はこう言う風にしかなれない.
There is a TTW tradition of hanging at various rental apartments around Dupont Circle, Upper Manhattan, and Queens, around the USO season. People just talk, drink drinks, and fall asleep on various hardwood floors to the sound of the ice machine.
I actually have no idea as I've never actually paid to play on the grass. (I have a bunch of friends there.)
I guess the membership fee is like $1,900 upfront and then like $400 a month I think. It really is beautiful there.
Can't we just GO to the USO, drink champs, then Uber to some bars, dodge some hipsters in the village, and then crash at any one of my numerous friends' houses? I am from NY after all.
this is where i go ...so...can we be bff?
We could have been but then you told me I wasn't invited to the USO party.
I cannot speak for zapvor, but I suspect that once beautiful blonde women identify access to various luxurious NYC properties around the USO time, the ice starts to melt.
This was classic Sapient
OK so apparently there is a girl from Havre de Grace named Sophie Chang that verbally comitted to playing college tennis at UVA.
Any of you guys ever heard of her?
I'm sure she didn't actually go to Havre de Grace High School or my baseball players would have mentioned her when I said I would crush all of them at tennis.
I don't keep up with juniors and up and comers, but very cool that she will be playing at my alma mater. Scary to think she was born when I started college.
Cocktails melt ice too, just sayin'!
what's for lunch?
I had a salad courtesy of Stop & Shop. Whatchu got?
also a salad....trying to feel better from eating this weekend...
anyone playing men's/women's combo...i played a ringer "4.0" and 4.5 and got whooped up on in 8.5...haha, i guess i deserve it...
I'm signed up for 7.5, but haven't played yet. Hoping to be a 3.5 ringer if there is such a thing lol.
3.5 ringer, eh? haha, you can be my new 8.5 partner!
We don't have Combo in RI and that makes me very sad because I have nothing to do until mixed starts back up in January. How do I start a combo league?
Looks like you already have two 3.5s on your team and one of them is on the same 7.5 team I am on. I need to be match tested first before i make any claims lol...first time doing USTA.
They key to 3.5 ringer is to pull off what i did a few years ago. Have 5.5 serve and a 4.5 forehand to go with 1.0 volleys and 2.0 backhand.
That way you lose at singles but can crush people at dubs cuz its easier to run around and hit all forehands. Usually the other team dont figure out soon enough how crappy the volleys are until we already would break them a couple times.
I messed that up by only playing mixed one year and got bumped up. Now Im out of shape and cant serve. Pretty much would have no chance at being anything near a good 4.0. Even though my backhand and volleys are better
I met a new dubs partner for the first time and I said.
"You can hit overheads right?"
Then I dropped mad kickers and he smashed like 4 overheads in a row to win the first game
I'm not used to the rating system yet so don't know how to even begin rating my strokes, but yes I can hit overheads lol. Caveat is....too many overheads = shoulder pain. Well a few sets of serving equals that too. Thank god for Motrin.
nova and md have sooo (too) many leagues...late summer is men's / women's...then tri level...then mixed combo leagues...then the start of the new year, the mixed season starts all over again...too many leagues since a lot of people play in VA, MD and DC...
haha...all good...i'm playing with my friend on that team and I think if we have the right match up, we would be fine...we just ran into a "nova" self-rated 4.0...haha, teaching pro too...it was still decent tennis...
your serve is not 3.5...is that the level you played????
also...what's for dinner...hungry....
Hm, maybe some grilled chicken with Meg's special spice rub annnnnnd some pasta with spicy garlic rosemary oil?
is the recipe top secret?
Your partner (forehand grip serve, right?) is the one that is on the same team as me. I saw him win on Saturday. He and his partner played #1 doubles and played a good match. I also signed up for the singles league that starts up soon. Realized I won't be playing every game with these huge rosters, so thought I'd get more tennis this way.
