2401 E Street NW, Columbia Plaza, set back from 23rd Street just south of Virginia Avenue. I can see Navy Hill from my office.

Call 202-663-1686 if you are coming; I'll have to sign you in at the security desk, which is a tad complicated to find.

Oh, man, they just showed Bjorn at the French, and he got OLD. At least he got grey. Could probably still make the third round, heh? :)

I have to mention...since you guys like cookies so much...one of my regular doubles partners, I just found out, writes a baking blog, and loves to bake. She found out about my affinity for cookies (as I like to eat them very very much! Just not before a match! ;) ), and she has brought me cookies every match since.

And boys...these cookies put mine to *shame*! Oh, they are so goooooood!!!

    That is all.

Lunch - chicken, brown rice, veggies...wash, rinse, repeat.

Yeah, but does she have a backhand? That's how I judge women these days. Mostly.

She has a very sweet two-handed backhand that she can sometimes get a wicked angle with...especially on return of serve.

We are a good team...I provide the cave-girl forehand, she's got the stronger backhand. I have a bigger serve, she's got drop volleys.

The drop volleys got me. You're turning me on, I think. What does that feel like again? Anyone?

JR with the 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win. Pulled out the third set inspite of cramping at 4-1.

I play my buddy from Reston in the next round at 3pm.

Good job JR. Now, the burning question is, what did you have for lunch?

Btw, I'm quitting tennis. I'm going to take up drinking margaritas instead. I think I'm much better at margaritas than tennis.

good win. Sat will be so hot and humid you better down some pedialyte.
    http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=202062
You and Joe will battle in the massive heat/humid index.

    Heat Advisory, Excessive Heat Watch

... Heat advisory remains in effect from 12 PM to 8 PM EDT
    Saturday...
... Excessive heat watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon
    through Monday afternoon...

A heat advisory remains in effect from 12 PM to 8 PM EDT
Saturday. An excessive heat watch remains in effect from Sunday
    afternoon through Monday afternoon.

A Bermuda high will continue to remain over the western Atlantic
through Monday and a west to southwest flow around this high will
bring hot and humid conditions. High temperatures across most of
northern and central Virginia as well as the Baltimore and
Washington metropolitan areas will reach the middle and upper 90s
each day. The hot temperatures combined with high humidity will
cause heat indices to approach 105 degrees Saturday afternoon.
Heat indices may approach 110 degrees Sunday and Monday.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will
combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
    neighbors.

JR you should think of playing with a ruff string!

Hey, what's up, TW MAC fellas??

It's been a while. I am already relocated to Bangkok and yes, starting to struggle with heat here!!

Tfm...I am not living like a king just YET, but my friend is. Just had his birthday party last night and it was pandemonium with so many girls including transexual ones around...LOL.. it was expensive as heck, but he could afford it..so what can you say. Yes, and I am eating noodle soups that you like almost every other day for 30 baht ($1) and just making this post to make you jealous so you can visit me rather sooner!! ;)

As for my tennis game, I have been playing pretty well. I just played for the first time since I got here with a teaching pro, and I beat him 6-2. I felt like I've finally broken the thick wall and getting to the next level. The court was so fast like you play on the concrete and it actually favored me as the pro was an older dude. He probably succumbed to the heat before I did (it was around 32-33c in the late afternoon).

Looks like Zap and Shcmad won their first ever match at 3.0 as well. Good job, guys. Keep it up and you will earn the trip to paradise in Thailand.

Anyway, I am still alive here. I've found some farangs (foreigners) here to play with. Meeting up with them pretty soon. Keep in touch, guys!! Make sure to give me a heads up when you guys ever come to Thailand or even Japan. Post some pictures when you guys have a meet or even mini-meets!!

And Topaz-San...yes.. I have been lurking in Thailand and still finding a way around. How's your league matches at 3.5??

Finally, Sup...What's your prediction for the men's final on Sunday?

Dude! You rock! Keep up the Good Work. Rock on.

Topaz lady, don't even think about quiting tennis. That's blasphamy. Just practice some of that old time religion - keep hitting the damn ball. It's good enough for me.

Well, I have the perfect doubles partner for you... she's this 1/2 asian girl that I work with. You guys would be like the Bryan Brothers... except girls, but not sisters, not even related, and not playing tennis.

Shintan, I never knew you were into tran... ahem!

Anyways, I'm glad to hear you're doing well over there. Zap is doing a good job as captain of the team. I think he deserves the ticket for the Thai vacation.

Well done! No margaritas for you! Now, same thing today, but make sure you are getting some sodium as well...pretzels work great for this, plus gives you some extra carbs.

    Make sure you wear sunscreen.

Boo, hoo. My young partner for the Roland Garros in Reston next weekend just twisted an ankle. :-(

Any volunteers to take his place? I would still like to play, but understand the short notice.

Actually, this morning I dumped a teaspoon of salt into my Gatorade and drank the whole thing. Tasted like swilling seawater - but seemed to work as I had no cramping. I also had some soup for lunch for the salt.

    Oh and by the way!

I got my drink and my two step!
my drink and my two step!

Beat my buddy 6-3, 6-1. So I'm in the final Sunday at 12:30.
    No cramping.

Man! It was hot! I sat in my chair and busted out my golf umbrella every break. There was a sliver of shade on one side of the court. I would go the that spot after nearly ever single point when I was on the side. Doubt it will be any better tomorrow plus it might be hard to serve with the sun high in the sky.

BTW- Thanks to the Sapient cheering section for the excellent support!!!!!

    Oh yeah and OLE!!! LOL!

There was this one guy in the Mens Open singles that yelled Ole!!! Everytime he hit the ball.

We had fun figuring out what word we want to yell when hitting. My word word was "Pizza!!!" :)

I"m sure Hollywood would yell out "JO!!!"

Might have to try it sometime as that dude was a REALLY GOOD tennis player.

    Xisbum, doubles + clay court?
I'm a pretty solid doubles player...well I don't wanna give myself accolades ask Sup or Shcmad if i'm worthy to play doubles as i've never had a hit with you. But i'd maybe be up for some doubles tournament winning.
When is this Roland Garros? and how much is entry fee??
I'm pretty much tied up mon-fri. Though generally I am out early in the day fridays and I am always off weekends.

    :)

Hi, Pure. From what I read on these posts, you might be too much firepower for me. I'm just a lowly 3.5 hacker who loves to hit tennis balls and compete. I take teamwork seriously and really hate to let teammates down.

But if you're game, I'm willing to try. The Roland Garros is played on clay courts in Reston, and the doubles part starts next Friday. I've already paid the entry fees, so just let me know if you're still interested. I haven't seen the draw yet, so I can't tell you exactly when we would be playing.

I think my reputation misleads hahah. I'd definitely be down with playing some doubles if you need a partner, if its a fri-sun type of tournament I should be available for all matches easy.
Though likewise, I wouldn't want to let you down. :)

We should get together for a hit sometime soon. Perhaps this evening if you and shcmad are around, when it gets cooler out hahah.

Okay, I'll check with the Reston people on substituting because of injury. Shouldn't be a problem because of my partner's injury, but you never know. I'll need your name, a telephone number and address. You can send it to my work e-mail (wileyrf@state.gov) so I can see it first thing tomorrow before I call the Reston Association.

And I do occasionally hit at Nottoway, usually early on Saturday or Sunday mornings. I practice on the wall a bit and try to find an empty court to hit some serves. I'm the short guy wearing some kind of bucket hat. We have probably glanced at each other before.

Sorry about not reading this earlier and answering you about tonight, but wouldn't have worked anyway. I played twice yesterday (about 4 total hours) and am still recuperating. Getting old is a bummer.:(

    JRstriker12 - 3.5 Shiloh tournament Champion - 2008!!!

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
    We are the champions -
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions - of the world!

Special thanks goes out to the Sap squad. Best fans evah!!!!!!

Tough match. It felt like 100+ out there. Ask Sap. I though about retiring a few times, it was just that hot. And the wind kicked up too.

Was neck and neck the first set. Traded service breaks. At 4-4, I broke my opponent (who also plays out in Reston). Then served out the First set.

The second set, my opponent come out firing. Hit all his shots. In the first game alone he hit three net-cord winners in a row.

Next thing you know, I was down 1-4. At this time, I decided to just take it point-by-point and try to exploit his backhand ( he also had a one-hander). So I hit it to his backhand and tried to come in and put away short balls when I could. Hit a DTL winner. A few games later, I hit a nasty, dipping cross court winner when he came in on my forehand side. Ran down a few lobs. On one of my lob returns came down right on the line and nearly bounced over the back fence. Hit another sweet dipping shot that went between his legs as he came in.

Serving at 3-4, the sun was blinding - game started at 12:30, so by one, it was in the worst spot. Double faulted twice at least. Managed a few wounded duck serves and somehow drew some errors. Tied it up 4-4. Broke his serve at 5-4. Was up 40-15 at match point. Made a bad error on what should have been an easy DTL passing shot. The whole court was open. 40-30, shanked the ball. 40-40, another shank. Ad out. Drew an error. At deuce, went for broke and hit a clean ace out wide to the ad court.

Ad-in - served to his backhand. He sliced it to my backhand. I sliced it back to his backhand. He dumped his shot in the net. Game, Set, Match - Jrstriker12.

Not pretty tennis - plenty of high arching, topspin, moon-ball shots, but that's fine with me as I was taller than the other guy and managed to grind it out.

I actually envision the ending to Star Wars Ep IV, where they are getting the medals put on around their neck... with the music playing and then Chewbacca letting out a growl.

    Same as Saturday.

Scrambled Egg (2 eggs, adobo seasoning, pepper), 2 slices wheat bread, 2 bananas, one 32 oz gatorade (Tiger, Red Fury) with 1/2 tsp of salt added, as much water as I could choke down.

Really - staying pre-hydrated is hard work, plus you're making a "pitt-stop" every 15 minutes. Don't know how the pros do it...... yeah..yeah...I know - Too much infomation.

JR - Congrats on your win. What a confidence booster it must be!

TheJeRK - You don't look half Filippino at all. I know a couple guys whose mothers are Filippino so I'm pretty familiar with their looks, but you seem to be an exception to the rule (which is good).

Shintan -- good to "see" you! sounds like you're doing just fine in BKK. even if you aren't living like a king - i bet you're still living pretty high on the hog. i'd love to come out and visit and eat my thai boat soup but i don't know if i'm allowed back. last time they said, "YOU LEAVE NOW!"

Schmad -- LOL i thought JRK was full on whitey myself and didn't know he was 1/2 flip. reminds me of my favorite pick up line. "you got any korean in ya? would you like some?"

JRstriker --- CONGRATS! looks like TW MAC is finally representing. i would've came out to watch you tear it up -- but i would've melted. ;)

This is so cool. And winning tennis is always beautiful, never ugly. Shows true character, as does losing with honor. But you are the WINNER, good buddy. And it's addictive; the more you win, the more you want to win.

Let us know when you enter the next tournament; I might try to get into singles shape and join you. :)

Outdoor courts can be reserved at both Wakefield Park (Annandale, VA) and Jefferson District Park (Merrifield, VA).

    Dates? June 21/22; June 28/29

For me, first two weekends of July are tournaments.
