I would love too. However, do not even attempt to think i could run around Flushing Meadows to all those grand slam matches like you did at Legg Mason. However, I will give this thought. Hmm.

I will need a place to post my digital pictures.

    Any requests for players?

Let me know how, where and when.

Well, I only had a few courts to deal with, not an entire gland slam venue! Though, can't you just don your cape and fly from match to match?

It is your trip, so you go see the matches that interest you, ok? Anything you send me is just great bonus stuff! I would be more interested in good match-ups than seeing a great player pound a lesser player in an ugly match. When is it that you're going?

I uploaded pictures to photobucket and then posted from there. I suppose you could do the same, and send me a link, or just send them to me (the ones you think are the best). It really is up to you and what would be easiest for you. This is for fun, so neither one of us should get stressed out! Easiest email for me is topaz720@yahoo.com

And, please feel free to write-up some of your adventures, too...I actually think that is more interesting than pictures most of the time.

    Thanks...this will be fun! :)

With all the matches going on (often at the same time!) I'm sure you'll do your fair share of running around. :D

I would be delighted to see any pictures of any players you happen to see, but I actually do have a random request: Ernests Gulbis (LAT). Thanks a mil :)

Who the heck? It almost sounds made up. Below is pic I found. I didn't see him in the qualifier draw. Is he even playing? I think he just lost in New Haven qualifier as well. Just letting you know.

P.S. Im sorry to hear about your Eagles obsession Topaz. I guess we all can't be perfect. We will have to bet when the skins play them later this year.

    Go Skins.

And...once the draw comes out and gets going, we'll have a better idea of what you'll get to see. I have to admit, I'd never heard of Gulbis either...interesting choice Starlite!

And yeah, buried in the middle of Redskin country can be tough for an Eagles fan, but I'll survive. My mom's cousing was a TE for the team back in the 80s, so I grew up watching games. I'm not 'anti' Redskins...heck, I'll even root for them when they play the Cowboys.

But then again, I'm always rooting for whoever is playing against the Cowboys!

Yeah, he lost to Gabashivili 3-6 7-7(9) 6-1. Still has some mental issues but he’s young (19 in a week!).

And he is playing, he’s in the top section of the bottom half of the draw. First round against Potito Starace, could face Djokovic in the 3rd round. He’s only played in two other slams, Beat Henman for his (and Latvia’s) first grand slam win, and took a set off of Baghdatis in Wimbledon.

I heard of him last year, where he played Ancic in the QF’s of St. Petersburg, and I’ve always followed his results since then. He’s made tremendous progress, this time last year he was playing and winning futures. He’s one of 3 guys born in 1988 in the top 100 (Del Potro and Korolev being the other two). And he’s coached by Niki Pilic who’s worked with Becker, Goran, Ljubicic, Ancic, and most recently Djokovic and from what I’ve heard Pilic sees a lot of potential in him, as do I. I’ve seen him play singles and doubles for Latvia in DC, and he’s. He kind of reminds me of Ancic mixed with Djokovic, if that’s imaginable, but we’ll see where he goes in time.

Well, I figured since he’d be in NY he’d probably get tons of pics of pros we all know, but he wouldn’t know to look out for Gulbis. Just alerting you to a good player to watch out for!

University of Chicago, school hasn't started yet. I start school after you guys! They're not a big sports school, but I'm probably going to play intramural or something I don't think I'm good enough to be on a team. ;)

That was uncalled for! Not cool. Totally not cool!

Anyway, how in the world did you manage to find that little post I made ages ago? You must have been browsing through TW threads all night long trying to find that! I see you're pretty good at dirt-digging, eh eh? Well, let me tell you that I'm pretty good at 'Whack-a-mole.' Ok, that was a lame joke.

In my defense, let me tell you that I just said you 'might' have a little crush on mr. gulbis because you were like "Ahh, for the love of God, get some pics of him whilst in NY!!" I mean, with that much interest, who wouldn't suspect that, ya know? :p

Haha, you’re a good sport. I know more than a few people give you crap about liking Marat. It’s all in jest, my dear.

Well, I pretty much stalk you so it didn’t take that long…kidding, it took forever! I remember you posted something funny in the Ladies only thread, and so I stopped and wondered to myself “what topic would ShcMad have posted about in this thread?” and lo and behold on January 27th 2007 this little gem appeared.

Bad jokes are the best kind, and I hear ‘wack-a-mole’ is a great way to practice overheads. :-D

Topaz and Sup2Dresq had never heard of heard of him, so I gave them the run down, but wow, you make it seem like I was manic over Sup taking pictures! Here's what I said:
Anyways, it's understandable, people get silly crushes on tennis players every now and then, myself included, and there are worse things to be accused of. Mr. Gulbis is not bad looking, but he does look to be about 14, and you and I both know he's not quite up to Marat's standard. ;)

What do I need to do to join this illustrious group of mid-atlantic tennis players? Sacrifice a goat? Bark at the moon and post the vid on youtube? Slap a nun? What is the initiation rite?

I used to play quite a lot and even spent summers teaching at Four Star Tennis Academy. It's probably been 20 years since I've played competitively though, so I have no idea what my NTRP rating would be. The US Open has me itching to get back into the game.
How often do you guys meet up to play? How old are you all (at 41 don't mind being the old fart, but just wondering)?

Four Star...is that run at 4 Seasons?

I think people generally just meet up randomly, though it has been kind of quiet lately. Some people are going 'back to school', but there are plenty of us left!

    See post #1011.

LOL, that's true I just mean he looks like he still has some baby fat around the face. Oh, and the freshman 15 ain't happening to me. Playing tennis + eating healthy + not drinking beer = same weight, sitting around + partying every night = freshman 15. Sorry you live in a crack house, by the way. :D

All of the above. The goat and the nun I was cool with but I draw the line at video...;)

It's been a long time since I taught there, but when I was working there, they had camps at UVA, Yale, and Mercersberg Academy in PA. I taught at all three at one time or another. Great memories from those summers.

By ther way, I live in Herndon, so anyone in the local area who wants to hit, please let me know.

So is there a listserv or something to join so people can coordinate? If so, please add me ->snowslider AT gmail dot com.

    Thanks!

Whats going on? On days i'm able to hit after work I usually go down to the park across from Pentagon City mall or to the Courts over by the public library in Balston. Although if courts get busier ath either place I'll opt to go hit at the courts up at GTown U, once practice is over anyways.

I also play up in silver spring, MD on the weekends as there is a club near my house up there.

    Yourself?

Hey now... never say you don't think your good enough to be on a team. I played #4 singles in highscool and made it onto my college team as a walk on. Granted if you go somewhere like Stanford, UGA, Illinois, etc its a little tougher to do so but with the right school/program and hard work you never know :)

If anyone wants to hit let me know. I moved back to the area after being away for about 10 years. I played in high school (in Maryland) then went off to Hawaii and now I'm back.

I live near Shirlington but I'll play anywhere if it's relatively close by.

I've played at Pentagon City and Quincy Park (Ballston), but more often than not, if I'm outside, I'm at Wakefield or sometimes Jefferson District Park. Indoors at Skyline. I've actually never played in Maryland...which is odd considering how close it is.

so i found a new place! no more crackhouse! heres teh insane part-i post an ad on craigslist at 10pm, by 10:30 i had 10 calls. within 12 hours i had 24 calls, and 10 emails, and last night 10 people showed up at the same time to see the place. its a crackhouse, but you cant beat the rent or the location. or the crack! ;)
