I'd do it, but I have no idea how I'll do Friday, assuming my 2nd round would be Saturday morning if I win.

I figured so much. I would of recruited you more otherwise.

Figuring you already had a collar bone broken and missed a lot of tennis, the YOTW would probably.... allow you to win the first round just so you couldnt come out for our team event.

BTW, no word on hitting tomorrow?

    I'm down for Santa Bowl.
I heard Shcmad talking about how he was gonna impress everyone this time around when he isn't sick.

    Hmmm... Santa Bowl. Interesting.

Of course, I am rooting for Zapman, Shcmad, and PP.

Post the results including their pictures misfiring 80% of their shots!!

I wish I switched racquets as much as TFM. Thinking back it may seem like I have switched racquets alot, but the same frame always seems to emerge from my tennis bag...

Still waiting for confirmation, I expressed interest.

Yes, I am planning to play, and hopefully McLovin can play so that I can compete with that adulterous MComp. Priority one though, win that tournament...

Didn't you hear him when he was playing doubles with PP, and PP missed an easy volley on match point?

    Tournament Readiness update: Day 2

So, what's the opposite of a 'hard fought 6-1' set? How about a 6-4 set where you feel you never had a chance...

I got a call from last year's #4 @ George Mason. He's home for the holidays and wanted to play (he transferred to UVA this year, but is on the club team, not the regular team). I used to beat him from age 16 - 19, but last year he started giving me troubles. Eventually it happens...

I hold the first game at love, but he starts bombing forehands all over the place, and I'm just scrambling for points, let alone games. He goes up 5-2, has a mental 'walkabout' for a few games, but recovers for 6-4... but it feels more like 6-1. I was never really in the set, and the points/games I won were unforced errors from him (vs forced errors).

I recovered nicely in the 2nd set, hitting a few key shots on his serve @ 4-3, along w/ a few early X-mas presents from him. I break and hold serve @ 5-3 to take the 2nd set.

I decide to play a 3rd just to see how my body will hold up. I played 2 hours yesterday, and I'm trying to get a feel for back-to-back matches. We play a long 15-minute game @ 2 all, which I end up winning. I serve the next game just to see if I can hold. Another 10-minute game, and I hold for a 4-2 lead.

At this point, to use ER terminology, I called it. Time of Death: 7PM. While I was up 4-2, there was no way I was going to hold serve again. I could barely get it up over 90MPH, and even then I was serving at 30-40%. Against someone half my age, its just a matter of time...

Any word on court time today?

How about your club, Sup? Anybody happen to cancel last minute?

I'm looking for day 3 in a row. Upper body feels fine. Knees & ankles, however...well, lets just say that in todays uncertain economic world, investing in Wyeth or Johnson & Johnson would be a wise move...

So, anybody else still stuck at work today? *sigh* The hours seem to be moving soooo slowly!

I also have a huge pile of goodies given to me by students...so if you're playing the Santa Bowl, you may end with a nice 'parting gift'! If I keep all this stuff it is either going to go bad or I'm going to gain 20 lbs!!!

Let's all say a prayer...*Please let the rest of Topaz's students today not be completely insane*

I hope everyone in the TWMAC has a great holiday!!!

I might make a cameo but if not just give the money to Sup. I'll see him at the next Thursday clinic in January.

Sup - Would that be Jan 1st or Jan 8th?

Come on, man. Let's not blame the Wookie again.

Let's hope the Zapman can return to his house (which is located pretty close to the accident scene) because, if he can't, he'll have to sleep inside the dumpsta tonight.

Just got back from the afternoon hit w/ auzzie. First, a big thanks to zap for hooking us up. That is a really nice club, and its not often I feel like I'm slumming it in my Volvo.

So, we played a few sets, and I have determined that auzzie's crap is better than my crap. We both played terrible, but he won out 6-4. Nothing to speak of, unless you are a fan of mis-hits, shanks and double faults.

We played a second set, but auzzie's back was killing him, so its not even worth mentioning the score, other than to say that my crap is better than his injured crap.

I'm chalking it up to the conditions. The courts are really really nice, but the lighting is indirect lighting. I've been playing in direct lighting conditions for the last 15 years, and whenever I go to indirect, I have problems picking the ball up. I think its gotten worse w/ old age. I served about as good as I can serve, but couldn't hit a volley if my life depended on it, and auzzie is a top-notch returner.

Anyway, it was still better than being stuck at work posting on message boards...

    Zapvor,
First of all, nice to meet you. Second, thanks alot for hooking us up. I wish you could have hit a couple balls with us, it's too bad you actually had to work. It was also really nice seeing my first tennis coach teaching on the court next to me. At first when, the coach called you over to his court, I thought he was going to berate you for McLoving not wearing a collar. Then i realized who it was. He taught me alot about tennis. It's good to see him still passing on those classic techniques.

    McLovin,
It was sort of winning ugly at the start. I came out quickly, you came back quickly, and we both finished the set like juniors. And sorry about the second set. I knew after the last game of the first set that my back wasn't going to make it through much more serving. So going for broke (on my part) really wasn't good practice for you. You did seem to serve better in the second set. And you were working the rallies more. But once again, I apologize for not getting you better practice.

p.s. I am going to hold off on racquet ordering till after christmas... I see an elongated box under the tree.

p.p.s. The mishits, shanks, and df's are part of the game plan.

Yeah, that just about sums it up.

No problem. I have until 15 days after X-mas to return them, so you pretty much have until the New Year to decide.

True, but that doesn't mean I need enjoy it. It sounds cliche, but I really don't care if I win or lose, I only care that I play to (what I think is) my potential. And I definitely wouldn't put what happened today down as playing to my potential, but then again, neither would you...

2nd place in the FF league! I got to watch Westbrook get handled at the stadium so it was worth missing out on the FF points.

I can't make Santa Bowl, but Im already looking forward to the next one!

So can anybody do anything on the 29th? I gotta drive down that way at some time on that day. It would be nice to make a little detour and hit a few balls somewhere with somebody.
