ugh. fark the winter and fark the rain.

sorry i can't make it today supper.

p.s. - i posted pictures of my "glorious" microgel mids.. time for TFM to check it out!

p.s.s. - hey lamar latrell with the help of his friends won the javelin just like with the help of twmac my serve occassionally kicks!

p.s.s.s. - the drinking thing reminds me of Johnny Fever on WKRP... too old for most of you kids, but they were trying to prove that drinking messes you up so they set up a test for him to drink and hit a buzzer in some test. but he kept getting faster... wish i could find it on youtube or something.. bah.

Full hour of groundstrokes - from every video angle.

Things we learned from just looking at the raw footage:

    1) Shcmad hits with a flat trajectory
    2) TheJRK works the camera like there is some hidden secret from his past. Wonder why he kept saying: "bum chiccy bow bow"
    3) PP was not happy with the footage.

Seriously a lot of fun and they will get a ton out of it. Every possible angle ot see what you are doing right and what you can improve on. I have a great software im testing out that can put side to side comparison with a pro, look at your stroke mechanics *ala golf swing*, and break down your motion in slow mo.

You missed a lot Auzzie. Sorry bud.

P.S We also got some serves, so you can marvel at TheJRK and PP's boomers and dfs.

P.S.S. We played 1/2 hour of king of the hill and I dominated for 20 minutes. I couldn't let PP strut his stuff too much. Not in my house.

  7. i couldn't let the mystery of the twisted wrister be revealed!!!!
i might actually find out which side of the racquet i hit the ball with!

Fun little session today (thanks Sup)... nothing like bailing on work and playing tennis for 2 hours.

It's very interesting to see oneself on video, especially up close. Peeps should check out the video if you want to see TheJRK's old topspin forehand. Speaking of topspin, after seeing the video (in slow motion)...

I must concur that Shcmad hits an extremely flat ball. His racket starts at chest height and ends at chest height... picture someone doing a hula-hoop, but with a tennis racket. He still cranks the ball though. He also does a little wave with his racket at the end of the swing on his backhand.

I must also concur that PP serves a lot harder than me... it even sounds harder. The ball seems to go straight down, like a spike in volleyball, it's insane.

Also, the camera adds 15 lbs...

    **Edit**
Wouldn't you know it... my damn shoes were delivered at 12:15 pm today.

    **Edit 2**
I was starving after leaving Skyline so I dipped over to Harris Teeter to grab a few things... $300 dollars later. Never grocery shop when you are hungry.

PP is a no talent hack. That is what we learned today from hi-def footage. Also, i have appeared in bugs bunny cartoons.

Yes. Bugs Bunny meets the Crusher. Just this time there was noticable giggle. I think its the camera. I need to order a HD one. \\

Probably why i thought Drakulie looked a bit over his normal weight as well. So no worries, Drak is skinny, you are bigfoot, Shcmad hits with no spin.. all is good.

Sup - which editing software are you using for these tennis vids. i'd love to see PP's serve broken down in slow motion. i betcha you could probably coax another 5-10mph with tweaks.

oh also before you buy the HD camcorder - cnet.com did a roundup of pocket sized HD camcorders. these suckers are usually less than $200 and take good but not great video. but they're easily portable and double as cameras too. then they did a roundup of less than $600 HD camcorders. i've used most of the JVC and Canon lineups for HD camcorders including the hard drive and mini-DV versions. i'd go with the Canons. they shoot better video. plain and simple. go with JVC if you need more storage - they got one that has 120gb drive. prolly overkill.

My mom just bought a JVC 30gb jobbie. I advised her on Canons. But she told me the JVCone was 150 bucks cheaper than the canon. And to take videos of her granddaughter running around spilling milk all over my furniture I think it will work fine.

My new Barricades Vs showed up yesterday. I will be play testing them tonight! They fit a little tighter than the IVs, which is good for me!

Im going to string up one of my rackets with gut tomorrow. Im planning on hybriding with Forten Sweet in the crosses. Has anyone tried the gut/synth gut hybrid?

@tfm, I think I could coax a few more mph on my serve if I used my body. As was deduced by me thus far, my serve is all arm. With more than my arm in that serve who knows what I could do, maybe break 100mph!?

I think Im the same way dude. I serve my flat one like a pitcher for the most part and a bad one at because pitchers use the whole body as well. Maybe Sup will be nice enough on on of my mondays off to test out his video software again :)

<Hillbilly voice> Whew-weeee, these new shoes are sweet!!! The colors on the Ballistecs are a lot brighter than they appear online. I think these f***ers can glow in the dark. Nike is definitely taking it back to the old school, when I opened the box I had memories of my first pair of Agassi shoes, Air Tech Challenges (I think), in neon green. The Ballistecs are heavier than the Cage IIs, but they are a lot more comfortable. The Cage IIs always dug into my ankle especially when changing direction on the court.

The new Vapors look nice... too nice to wear on a tennis court. I think these f***ers could be worn with a tuxedo. I've always liked the Zoom Air because I like to feel low to the ground. I'm 75" tall and the Max Air in the Cage IIs always made me feel like Yao Ming on stilts. Compared to Ballistecs and the Cage IIs, the Vapors weigh next to nothing.

Unfortunately, I got the wrong size in the Ballistecs so I had to send them back to exchange them. I'm still debating whether I should wear the Vapors on Thursday.

    Hmmm...

BTW, I might've convinced a guy I work with to buy my rackets. He said he loves to play tennis but he doesn't have any rackets. I told him I have just the sticks he needs. If this doesn't work I'm gonna just start using them again, tennis elbow be damned.

He said he was playing an ACTA league match... I thought ACTA was outdoor only.

Maybe he is talking about the singles ladder? I think you just arrange those on your own, and the bubble at EPTC is open to the public to reserve.

No, he said he's playing doubles. Maybe it's for just one of the divisions. Court time seems a bit pricey... Arlington Y seems to be the best deal.

From November - April I believe it's like 18 an hour. From April - November, it's free.

You have yearly membership dues though, which I think are 400 dollars. Not bad though, when you think about it.

Ha! Not bad...for *you*! FFX is 125 a year! But yes, their court fees are more expensive, too. Any way you slice it...playing inside is pricey during the winter. :(

Have you heard of anything changing at the Y now that they are no longer part of the sport and health club?

    McLovin,
Did you play with the HPS 6.1 18x20 version? or the 16X18? I hit with the 16x18 in 2002, and vaguely remember its characteristics.

Keep in mind, that's $18 an hour (which you could split between 2 people). $400 for a year doesn't seem like that much, I paid $400 for Sup's clinic. Free court time in the spring/summer months (just in case it's raining) seems pretty good to me.

Arlington Racquet Club hasn't been part of Sport and Health since 2005, I think. At least, when I took lessons there in 2006 they told me they weren't associated with Sport and Health. I really like the courts there, plus they have like 8 courts I think.

**Edit** Also, I think I remember their being no guest fees.

Yes, although it was the 27.5" version. I used it for 3 years, just before going to the Pure Control. I loved that racket, and probably would have kept hitting w/ it had I not found the Pure Control swirls.

Sup...are those yours? Interested in selling? I know someone who might be interested.

Last time I played there they had guest fees, but that was a few years ago.

Again, that's fine, but I would rather play someplace that doesn't charge me first to be a member, and then again to use the courts. You paid the same for Sup's clinic, but you're paying for both the instruction as well as the court time. For *me*, that is a better choice for my budget. I'm also more likely to look for instruction rather than just open court time.

The Y is definitely a nice club, though, not knocking it all, and I know at least one really good pro who works there. I've had teams 'rent' it out for tennis parties, too, and it works nicely for that as well.

I hit with those, and liked them back in 1995. I haven't played with them seriously since... Any chance I can hit with them this evening??

Which string pattern did you use? The tighter 18 mains or the 16 mains?
