tfm, sappy - you guys are on! i want a rematch! i'd even put a wager on it. losers has to pay for winners at the buffet afterwards.

hw - anytime you want to head down, i'd be up for it. you can swing down my place and i'll drive us down the rest of the way.

topaz - how far are you from bethesda? want to join us next week?

    i'm tired. and hungry.

Where? I've been scoping out San Diego. La Jolla, Downtown or maybe Solano beach.

PPL - you and hollywood are welcome anytime. this weekend i'd like to play but sadly i have a menagerie of kids. likely no dice. as far as a rematch - i'd take you guys on. i know you think you have a foolproof strategy of hitting everything my way and keeping it away from sappy but that's not going to work. i'm on to you guys. i've mostly made sappy play baseline to handicap him. he's a whirling dervish up at net. bring it.

San Diego has always been on my 'list', though I think I'd be more likely to move to FL before CA.

topaz and the PPL versus the asian buffet twins? hahahahaa. what a total mismatch. i'm thinking domination. just from a heigh standpoint - we tower over the both of you by many inches. and then we outweigh the both of you by hundreds of pounds. come on down next week you guys. one set. standard scoring. winners eat for free.

Cali is in way too much financial straits for me. Which is a shame because San Dog is probably the best combo of year round weather which rivals hawaii, and ability to still actually go somehwere without jumping on a plane.

But Arnold is having trouble fighting off whatever Pelosi is doing over there. That lady is ruining the state of Cali. top that with the increase of illegals and all the crime from drugs being smuggled. Sorry but i caouldnt do SoCal.

But if you bought an older house that needed some fixin up theres a plethora of cheap labor around. The will be at the local Home Depot/Lowes underneath canopies that Ms Pelosi has decided to make the stores pay for because she didnt want all the people out in the sun pawning there services. So they will put them all in one place.

    Hey guys,

    Drama... drama....drama....

The weekend was full of drama... Dats almost missed his flight going there, almost lost his Ipod on the plane.. and lost his wallet and couldn't board the plane to return home. He's still in Florida. Luckily someone smelled his cabbage drenched wallet and turned it into Lost and Found. Of course all his cash was gone, but he at least can get the next flight. I'm sure at a premium cost. Poor Dats. Safe travel my friend.

As for pics and a recap. Give me a moment to catch up on sleep and more importantly my fiber. I ate enough meat to last the rest of the year.

Thanks a bunch to the host with the most.. Count Drakulie and Panterka.

Lots of stories and pics to share.

    Until later
    "el jefe"
    Sup

p.s. JRS.. Dats couldn't escape the disco shirt and glasses. He had a blast and saw enough hard hitting tennis to wipe out any attempt to get him to control his game.

I can almost hear the "so you need some lotion put on you somwhere.." as we speak.

However,... he was not a happy ukranian at the airport.

Happy Dats at the tournament: Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!
Not so happy dats at the airport: *insert image of dats yelling at the S&H air conditioning unit*

Yeah, we could hit at my courts... unless they are taken. But there are plenty of other courts in the area. I'll probably get home around 3-ish and I'll see if my courts are open. If they are, I'll text ya. Either way I'll be there practicing my topspin/kick/twist serve to the best of my ability, so show up if you can.

Check out this article on Manny. I have said for years hes the best right handed hitter I have ever seen. Actually as hitter are concerned hes the third best I have ever saw with my own eyes. I say hes tied with TGwynn. And Barry (yes I know about roids) was just on another level all together. Discount Barry and Manny/TGwynn are the greatest hitters

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4018367

When Manny talks to mere mortal hitters, his advice can be as frustrating as it is enlightening. "When I was playing with him in Cleveland," says Branyan, "Manny was trying to help me, and he asked, 'Why do you swing at inside fastballs when you can't hit them?' I'm thinking, Because I'm geared up, and by the time I realize it's an inside fastball, it's too late to stop. And Manny would say, like it was easy, 'I don't swing at that pitch unless I've got two strikes. And then I just try to foul it off.' So, basically, he's playing a different game."

The guys just on a whole new level.

One time, Ramírez laid it all out for Branyan, gave him the whole hitting equation. "He told me that he put 70 percent of his weight on his back foot and 40 percent of his weight on his front foot. And even though I knew the numbers didn't add up, I thought for a second, I've got to try that."

Yeah, San Diego area. Actually, we are looking in San Clamente. You can get some nice places near the beach for 500-600k. The only problem is, where the hell do I work in San Clamente? It aint exactly a military intelligence hub...

Then you might like to consider heading up the coast to Monterey – great California beaches, ocean views – and probably enough MI to satisfy your craving.

Yeah, Manny is the Yogi Berra of this generation. What he says doesn't make logical sense, but it makes perfect Manny sense. And like most truly great athletes, he sees things that other don't, and he sees it earlier.

I agree on Barry Bonds as one of the best hitters ever, but I would put his dad very close to him. He was really something. And I still think Frank Robinson was the real 5-tool deal, too - power, speed, average, field, throw. But you know, I'm old enough to have seen the end of Ted Williams' and Stan Musiel's careers, too, and the prime of Mantle and Mays. I truly believe if Willie had played anywhere else besides San Francisco, he would have hit 850 homers. He lost 10 to 15 a year every year he played in San Fran.

I would blow some smoke at you and talk about watching Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby on TV, but I'd be lying. There weren't no TV in them days. :)

Moving to CA would be cool. But I just wonder if you move in and you end up being the only occupied, non-foreclosed house on the block?

I didnt see those dudes. But thats interesting how you mention Willie and all the extra homers. Ill tell you somebody else that suffered from a bad home park. And this man is IMO the most underrated baseball of this generation if not ever. He should easily be in the hall of fame but will possibly get the bert blyleven (SP?) treatment. And that man my friend is Jeff Bagwell. His prime was played in the houston astrodome which gave up fewer homeruns than any other stadium in the NL. Over the 15 years Bags played i would saay you could add 50 homers to his total givin him the elusive 500. He also stole more bases than any other full time first baseman and had a 30-30 season to boot. His fielding was stellar and Bagpipes attacked bunts better than anyone.

In the History of Firstbaseman theres Lou Gehrig at the top. And Bagwell is on the next tier. Top 5 all time. Screw McGwire Ill take Bagpipes anyday.

Sup, when you recover, I need a frame restrung by this weekend. Over the course of the last 12 hours I have been recruited by two different Usta league teams 4.0 va league team and 4.5 DC team, and now have a match on Saturday.

P.s. I am actually gonna be playing on the same team as the guy who usurped all my confidence during that acta final.

Those kicks look pretty sweet for $35. I'd have to see them in person, but if they still look that good on the shelves, I'd get a pair. I just wonder how they feel?

I like the low-cost trend that the Starburys started.

    Match report - page 5,007,355,664 ;)

Played the Conejo Sunday and he beat me 4-6, 3-6. So we went out tonight and played and I beat him 7-5, 6-4.

I got him good a few times with a TFM-like drop shot. In fact, I won the second set on a drop shot - *TFM Laugh*

Backhand held solid and the forehand was clicking. Felt good to play outdoors. Really surprised that the Newport and Hook courts were full this early in the season. Lots of 2.5 hackers out there - as opposed to 3.5 hackers. We had to play at Autumn Wood, which were nice since they resurfaced them, same as Newport.

jrk, thanks for hitting yesterday. Was good to get a little tiebreak practice!

I gotta say, when you connected on your kick serves, they had a ton of hop. Mix that in with increasing your first serve percentage and really mixing up placements and you could be john isner-like!

I thought you played well with both frames, but actually feel the ti.rad suits your strengths more. It seems a little more spin friendly while still giving you the same type of power level. Second serves were also more jumpy with the radical. Just need to clear your head when you get a sitter :).

i need to find a kmart around me too....i live in the ghetto so it should be easy...

oh HW i got more ups than vince carter ever did. when i played everyone was taller so i am used to it. i dont like the shaq style of play though. basketball is better when its finesse like tennis. i think one of the reasons i got away from it was the team issue. i usually do pick up games anywhere i am at, and over time i realized chemistry is so key. we played winner stays, and you would witness mad passing anticipation and harlem globetrotter execution that just blew the competition away. then again tennis is addictive...

hey zap - begs the question -- are you better at basketball than you are at tennis?

hollywood -- i always thought basketball shoes were heavier than tennis shoes. by a good amount i think too or am i wrong?

schlong -- grats on the win. thought you were stroking it nicely yesterday during our hit. still in like with my sticks but the poly's are gonna have to go and fast.

how's the south florida gang? pics? videos? stories?

Yeah, it was a good hit. Thanks for letting me take 20 attempts to get my kick serve to go in. After a while though, I sorta started to get the hang of it. Hopefully by this summer I'll get it down pat and I can start working on placing the second serve.

My courts are super slow, so it made for some good back and forth rallies. I think it's becoming the Roland Garros of Arlington, except on hard courts <insert confused look>

For those sitters, I know I need to stay sideways since we practice that shot in Sup's clinics... old (bad) habits are hard to beak.

TFM - I'm surprised at the amount of pop you can get from those sticks with the poly. The stiff string with the lower power rackets just sucks out all the energy being applied to the ball.

Those are going to be nice with some multi's - what are you thinking of using?

That's Caroline Wozniaki...Danish player, and she just lost yesterday to Svetlana Kuznetsova in three sets. She's deemed one of the promising up and coming players, though the woman who impressed me the most was Viktoria Azarenka. I think she's going to really make some noise in the next few years.

I watched Wozniaki beat Jelena Dokic (KTOUR!!!) in three sets...was really happy to get to see Dokic play in person. She is insane...take JRK's serve philosophy (all or nothing) and apply it to a ground game, and you have Dokic. Very streaky, and either a huge miss or an insane winner.

Gonzo was the same way...when he would hit a forehand, the crowd would literally go 'ohhhhhh'...you could almost *feel* it in the stands! It looked like he was trying to kill his opponent with the ball!

I'm barely holding on with the Prince, but holding on for now. I think the towel will get thrown in the ring Rocky style, with apollo on the ground and the mad russian starring me down.

Your game may suit a string that gives you pop and is very anti-shcmad. Many choices now. If your still slapping with your wrist, then something with control than power.

topeezy -- ahh wozniacki. yeah i'm familiar with her. nice player and easy on the eyes. kinda reminds me of clijsters. dokic is apparantly playing with the ktour team fx. seems like a lot of acronyms and a good bit different than your regular ktours as far as specs.

    what's for lunch people?
