I would so come if it did not take 2 hours to bus/metro there and another 2 hours to metro/bus back. I was so ready to come Thursday too, but zap had to nap haha.

    Zapvor,

Any time between 9am and noon Sunday will work for me. I am flexible as far as location.

I think you should look at the votes again, pick a time and place and let everyone know where it is and see who can come.

I almost broke out laughing everytime he screamed like a girl when he missed a ball right after taunting the people on the otherside of the net. He thought it was the end of the world.

Yes, Patrick played well. The scores don't matter half the time since it does not reflect the actual game play. The quality of points were there.

    Update

For those of you that RSVPed, thank you. I want to confirm a couple things. First, it is on Sunday the 6th, (so excuse my typos). Second, only 2 of you replied with times that were good for you (thank you gentlemen) so I am going to ASSUME that the rest of you can do any time during the day! I set up a poll for you to suggest times, but it turns out most of you are indeed free the entire day Sunday, which is great. Third, very few of you also picked a location/ tell me where you reside. However, we have one from Reston, and one from Bethesda, so we are pretty spread out. Given these two locations (the rest of you did not suggest location) I would like somewhere in the middle, perhaps Vienna.

Now, since it's still Friday, I am going to keep the polls open for location! So please suggest locations! Or I am going to pick one and then you guys can show up and complain why you had to be stuck in traffic on route66 for 1 hour just to get to the courts, etc etc. We do not want that. Not saying your location will get picked, but at least by giving input we can make a better choice, yes?

As for time, I am setting it at 1:45PM now. It will go for a couple hours I hope, so you can come earlier or later. If 2-6PM does not work for you at all please vote and let us know! Thank you.

    Tomorrow!

    Hi everyone

It's me again spamming this thread. For tomorrow, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter Premiere will be at:

Jefferson District Park at 7900 Lee Highway
    1:45PM

The tennis courts are right behind the basketball courts, so we can meet in the parking lot by the basketball hoops. My cell number is in the invitations I sent out.

Hope to see you there! Thank you.

I just realized the weather may be an issue tomorrow. If it turns out the rain gods dont cooperate, the meeting will be canceled. but lets do our rain dance and keep the gods happy!

Hurray, it looks like rain is off the forecast, but it looks like the wind gods won't be in our favor. D'oh!

    The BEST post ever....ever

EDIT: since i just realized some of you may not read the entire post, I want to say a big huge thank you to all of you for coming out today. because of you, the premiere chapter meet was an absolute smashing success. all i did was spam you guys. You were the ones that took the effort, time, thought, gas money, patience with my sucky tennis, and cookies etc etc to come out today.

First off, i cant believe noone else posted about today yet!!!!!

Second, this is the best post ever....ever. and here is why:

I leave the house at 9:55am to meet up with JrStriker since he had prior engagments later in the day and cannot attend the premiere of the mid-atlantic chapter! We meet up at 11am, and hit around. James is a great guy, and his tennis is even better. and he has a TW tennis bag! yea baby. So the only issue was it was SUPER windy, and whoever was hitting against the wind, the ball would go just past the net and then DROOOOOOP (like that part in the beastie boy's song) but we managed to have a lot of fun. Then in the end, we did this 5-serve practice where we serve and then play the point out just for fun. Obviously, I raped James in the game. Honestly though, he raped me. yea. hahaha so he is good. good serve too. then he had to go unfortunately. something about a wife? ok i better stop before i get carried away. ;)

So i leave the park and go grab quick lunch. no big deal. boring stuff here.

I come back to the courts around 1:40, and by 1:55 ShcMad shows up! i am super excited, since i dont know who was going to show afterall. We try to talk for a little to wait for the others, but before long we were dying to get on court so we hopped on. Schmad is good too. this will be a recurring theme in the post. so we rally for a little, then Sup2daResq shows up. then Bad Dog shows up. and not only that, but he
    A) brought a hot girl in tennis skirt
    B) hot girl brought 2 batches of cookies with her
    C) brought 3 new cans of Australian Open balls just for me! they say Australian Open on them! I sound like a little boy. i am.
    D) brought the camera
Then Pure Prestige also shows up! very pleaseant surprise. So there is now me, Bad Dog, PurePrestige, ShcMad, Sup2daResq and DawnDuck? (i still didnt figure out what her name was hahah)
So Bad Dog starts to take pictures of us 4 on the court just rallying. for your info, we were kinda warming up, so everyone hits better than they look in the pictures, except me. Then some action were also taken, so stay tuned for that. Eventually Bad Dog also hops on court and proceeds to hit a few Federer-winners on us, so we kicked him off pretty fast. ahem. sorry buddy.
Then Bad Dog &company had to go, but the cookies stayed. oh yeaaaaah.

so then we decide to play a set. me+Sup2Resq VS. ShcMad+PurePrestige. I serve first, and amazingly, i held serve! to give you an idea, the doubles match was basically Federer, Nadal, Safin, and Me. yea, 3pros and me. but see i am smart; i picked to be on Federer's team :D Anyways it was a lot of fun. not since i left college have i had suchfun on the court hitting and playing a match. and such nice guys too. oh, did i mention they were good?

after Sup2Resq had to go on his date with Sharapova, me ShcMad and PurePrestige stayed and kept hitting, and another guy joined us. he hit like 90% slice. but i guess it worked out because ShcMad loves coming to net. if you ever play him, get ready to hit passing shots. if you dare. PurePrestige on the other hand made me miss like 5729572 times on service return with his american twist. it was &%$)@6! sick. for me anyways. all i ended up doing was JUSt trying to get my racket on it. Sup2Resq gave me a couple good tips. I wish we have some of the serves on film so you members can see.

So finally it's like 7pm and the meeting ends officially. Once again, thank you so much for coming out gentlemen. I havent had dinner yet, but after hitting with these pros, i was pumped up to improve, so i stayed to practice service. yea, my serve sucks. big time. just ask the other guys.

at 8:40pm my legs finally give out enough, and now here i am!

Now you guys that came today have to post something about today too. anything. comments, suggestions, all that.

Stay tuned for our next chapter meet!

    End of Best post ever.

Guys, I also wanted to thank you all for coming out and making it happen. I really had a great time. The conditions could have been better, but we were so good that even the wind, cold, and sun couldn't hinder us! <@: )
I wanted to make a post last night, but I was almost dead after 6 hours of high-quality tennis, so I went to bed around 10PM, which is unusually early for me.

To be honest, at the very first, I really thought only zapvor and I were gonna be the only ones there, but then an unexpected guest comes (Sup2Dresq)! And, later comes BadDog along with a lovely lady. And, after that, my usual hitting partner (PurePrestige) calls me and tells me he's on his way, as well. To top that, BadDog brought cookies and new cans of balls as a token of appreciation to zapvor for organizing the meet! I was jealous!

As zapvor said in his earlier post, BadDog had to be kicked out of the meet early because he was too good with his ProStaff 85. This guy has the groundies of Sampras and the volleys of John McEnroe. Who wants to play against this guy? I certainly don't. I came to the meet to have fun, not to get bageled!

Zapvor is like an Igor Andreev on steroids. I'm starting to think he really must be taking some illegal substance in order to perform so well for so many hours. This guy has solid groundstrokes and can pass me left and right when I'm at the net. Before playing, zapvor lures you into believing he's a n00b, but when you start playing, the guy proceeds to destroy you. Not fun.

Sup2Dresq is actually Federer himself. I couldn't believe it either, but he's lurking in these TW forums, reading TWers' advice on how to play against Nadal. Seriously, Sup2Dresq is the most Federeresque player I've seen in my life. Federer forehand, backhand, serve, volleys! What can I say? In order to gain a game from him, I had to resort to high topspin groundstrokes to his backhand side, but guess what? I'm not talented enough to even hit topspin so I got crushed everytime I attempted that!

PurePrestige (who's my usual hitting partner) is the same good, ol' power player with crazily-fast 1st serves and nasty kick on 2nd serves. Truly, a mix of Ivan Ljubicic and Robredo. I'd like to call him a Nicolas Mahut who can actually hit groundstrokes J/K! ;) Thanks to PurePrestige, I got better at tennis quickly over the course of 2 years. Kudos to you, bud. I really appreciATE.

Again, thanks guys for making it a great day. Zapvor, thank you for taking the time to organize this, and I'm glad it turned out to be a success. Next time, I'm sure we'll be able to get MrHan, tennisguy, patrick, JRStriker, Topaz, Starlite, among others. I'm looking forward to it.

First off i would like to mention i did respond immediately after tennis.

Thanks to zapvor for putting this all together. It's hard getting people together. I look forward to the next meeting. Hopefully at a court with wind screens.

I laughed at the zapvor and Shcmad posts. Comedians I tell you. Btw, Sharapova says hello. Ironically PurePrestige plays with my racquet; a Wilson. This is why I don't conform my user name to a praticular racquet.

Hopefully the pictures turn out. I was having a terrible time judging the ball with all that wind. That was some nasty wind and I think zapvor wins the prize for most balls hit over the fence due to wind. Didn't help there was a camera pointed at us either. I'm not used too that!

Thanks again. You guys were great to hit with. A pure pleasure. The only female that showed up didn't even hit. What's up with that. I bet its the Han "cookie-mother" remark. No worries, I would be afraid of Han's looks too.

Hi guys, sorry I had to miss the main meeting. Hopefully I'll be able to attend the next TW chapter meeting at another time.

I did get a chance to hit with Zapvor earlier. He's a good guy with a good game. The wind was crazy when we started, I wonder if it picked up later on?

Not true – but thank you for the great compliments, guys! Actually, Zapvor & Company were gracious and hospitable. Here are some reasons why Down Dog and I left early:

    • Zapvor’s wind-up topspin was like a major league pitch right in the strike zone.
    • Soup2DresQ did not miss a single ball in 20 minutes of heavy hitting.
    • ShcMad’s flat bombs deep in the corners and grazing lines were agonizing to return.
    • That's when my backhand shots zigged when they should have zagged.
    • Then PurePrestige showed up, with a K-Factor like Soup2DresQ’s.
    • At that point I realized that if I stayed much longer, I might be at the wrong end of a K-mugging from all four of you. :)

We deeply appreciate Zapvor’s leadership and momentum in creating the Mid-Atlantic chapter, bringing together such a great group of talented tennis fanatics. Now let's make sure that ours is the most active on the TW board. Watch out Miami. :)

Pictures will be posted within days. Stay tuned. :)

Zapvor...glad to hear it went great!!! You are to be commended since you are the one who got it all going.

I ran a 5k in the morning, and had a match in the evening, and I believe I was conked out somewhere in the middle though...but I was thinking of you guys.

I'm not sure, as a 3.0/3.5 player, that I would even be able to hit with you guys after reading the posts!

you are right; i took so long writing my post that yours came before me. haha

wind screens would have been good. very good. I definitely hit about....9 balls over the fence. which i usually dont. i swear. on the other hand Federer is next to me constantly giving me tips as he is hitting. and they were like complete sentences, no pauses. he could have beaten us with his eyes closed. but he is Federer afterall. i dont expect anything less.

hahahhaha i love the cookie-mom theme.

Well, a group of us always do this race that raises money for brain tumor research...one of our students had a tumor taken out two years ago and has made a full recovery. I used to always do the race alone, but when that happened I brought it up to the family, and now I kind of feel obligated to do it every year. Eh, plus it was a nice morning and a good run. If I hadn't also had a match later I would have come out and played. Turned out my match was a long one later on...that me and my partner lost on games when time ran out. I hate it when time runs out!

Cookies...and steak??? Since I play, I don't think I should have to bring anything!!!

Plus, if we ever meet up at Wakefield there's a good restaurant right across the street (in the shopping center) that my teammates and I usually go to for after match/practice 'discussion'.
