    Alice,

The poly crosses will probably decrease the life of the cut. More than likely it will hack through the gut like a saw. I had VS Gut in my stick and they lasted a while throught he miss hits and everyhting.

Gut has alot of power and be be hard to control at times. Adding cut in the cross will aloow you to hit out a tad more without worrying as much about the ball sailing on you. Kepping the gut in the mains will help you maintain more of that gut feel.

I believe fed still strings up gut mains poly cross for this fact.

So either he feels you will benifit from the set up or he just wants more string jobs. I say give it a shot you may enjoy it.

You mean your 3.0 lady opponents will actually let you hit a forehand? Interesting.

Whatever you want, TA, whatever you want. Uncle State pays me lots of money to put out his magazine, so I'm game for whatever. But my club in Fairfax charges 20 bucks an hour for indoor courts. Wanna play at my house? ;)

So far, I've only tried Gut mains with Synth Gut crosses. I may give poly crosses at try too. It amazes me how much power gut adds. Anyone have a favorite poly to cross with gut?

yeah, that's exactly what i thought, about the poly cutting through the gut. he's not earning anything from stringing, though--he doesn't string and i'm going to try to string it myself.

so. recommend me a poly? the mains will be klip legend uncoated 17 gauge.

Im not the master of strings. But Auzzie seems to believe ALU ius wheres its at.

Also seems to be the main string on tour as well. So either Lux/Wilson is paying all kinds of money to all kinds of dudes. or the string is actually pretty good.

I know its pretty good. One thing you will noti.ce is the poly will go dead alot quicker than the gut. Which is why i never minded when my poly cut through my syn gut. because by the time the string breaks the poly is probably dead anyway.

In stead of dropping a lot of cash on poly experiment, try Big Ace. Good poly for a good price.

You can also try Maxim Touch, which has a poly like coating, but is a multi on the inside.

I'd also recommend Blue Gear, just because I'm a Blue Gear/Spin String freak - but BG will cut through the gut since it's textured.

Just a question - have you upped the tension on the gut. That could buy you more control. FWIW - I've only broken one set of BG in the past two years - so you can prob get away with increasing tension and using a gut/multi - unless you are breaking a lot of strings.

I used to play with full ALU at 62lbs for many years. Then I developed TE and had to get a few cortisone shots. I loved ALU though, the spin was insane and I would really crush my serves.

Sup strung my rackets up with full VS gut at 57lbs and it brought me back from the brink... at one point I couldn't even hold a fork in my hand to eat.

Now I use full Maxim Touch at 57lbs... try not to serve too hard... and my arm feels fine. :)

you mean you know 3.0 "ladies" who can actually direct a ball to their opponents' backhands?? bloodyhell, no wonder i lost. i was just trying to aim for the correct court... and my pro first trained me to run around slower balls that are wafting down the middle, in order to hit a forehand.

you're on. i'll reserve at court for us in the bubble, and if it rains, i can cancel it and we can play outside. (sup! stop shopping for my dress and help me work out a gameplan for playing X! mayday! m'aidez!)

oh, no. X, i called the club and apparently they close at 5 on saturdays and sundays, except when they have juniors tournaments.

how about next weekend? the floodwaters may have receded by then.

    Alice,
JRS is right, if you want to hybrid, I would start with a soft poly like Big Ace or the coolest colored string in the world: Topspin CyberBlue. McLovin crosses poly with Gut mains, and I think he settled on Topspin Cyberflash. But boy does the blue look amazing!

Sup - Is there any indoor hitting time in TheJRK's future?

Sup and I hit a few balls and hit a LOT of serves.
Yonex is out... great for casual rallying, but too many mishits.
X2DM feels good, but I get the occasional flyer.... but
I served well with it . The darn grips are just too big.. I think it inhibits
my ability to swing fast by 13%.

I resisted hitting with the Tec320 for all but the last minute
and then I hit the fastest serve of the day!

So now I want them. It was a TRAP!
But they really feel good. Dunno why slap-happy TFM didn't like them.
Real players know a good stick when they swing one. And velvet bags!
    oooooooh!

if we can hit again SUP, i would be thrilled, but if not I'll take 2 in 3/8 grip strung with RedCode at 58lbs! :)
    maybe Black Code????
p.s.: what overgrip was that? felt purrrrrrfect. wilson?

Ok auzzie...tomorrow noon it is, I'll see you there.

Wakefield Park, you know where it is? do you need direction?

on a different note, when you hit long or dump it into the net...do you look at your strings like it has something to do with the shot?

Sure do. And I know one 3.5 guy who can practically make the ball dance inside that square foot box in the backhand corner. At least he could do it a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Allie, Allie, Allie. A gameplan? You forget with whom you are playing - "A poor, infirm, weak and despised old man."

But this I promise, no matter how bad it gets:

    "Let not women's weapons, water-drops,
    Stain my man's cheeks."

if your TE recovered while playing with gut, why did you switch to the maxim? i'm just asking because given a choice between insane spins & crushing serves or a pain-free elbow, i'll choose the elbow. i'm so poly/synthetic-shy that i refuse to hit with demo racquets. i also have a fairly strong aversion to anything delivered intravenously, like cortisone.

"Isn't it pretty to think so?"

You slay me, Allie, you really slay me. Sappy can wait; when do you want to play next weekend?

I had one ready for you, too, after your superior speed and youth left the old guy sobbing in the clay:

"It was done; It was finished. Yes, she thought, laying down her [racquet] in extreme fatigue, I have had my vision."

auzzie -- forgot you were once over in delaware. did you ever play this kid jessie r.? i was at sea colony's weekend camp and hit with her for a few minutes. very very impressive game. although i did ace her. unfortunately that was my only highlight. the rest of it was lots of scrambling as she ran me ragged for 2 games.

dats -- the new tf320 was too powerful. pretty much everyone in the tw mac is taller and stronger than i am and i was still crushing balls out of the stadium with that racquet. i find it more amusing that you play your best with racquets that give you a big boost in power. take your panties off and hit with a real players stick dood. ;)

wookie -- never got your report on the slicendicer. did you represent the TWMAC or did you give us a black eye? el jefe isn't going to be happy if you played poorly. :)

is it going to dry up anytime soon?! i got a new stick and i haven't even hit with it once!!! *shakes fist at rain god*

I had to convince Dats not to order the TF after hitting 3 serves and a drop forehand *rolls eyes*. So we are attempting to hit this Monday during the day. So if you want to take a long lunch and meet us, you are more than welcome.

p.s. Geez that red code just never felt right. On a funnier note.. Dats followed me in his car to 2 lights in order to tell me how much he liked the TF. Will try Black Code 17g next (HW, where you at.. you still want me to order). I have a feeling Im going back to Big Ace or calling Luxilon to get a dealer price.

Dats, the overgrip is Yonex. It was rated pretty high by USRSA .. and I think it feels just as good or better than Wilson.

Nitefly, glad you can make it tomorrow. TheJRK and I drinking during a hockey game would of been a sight. Now we have you!

JRK, I was thinking. Instead of goals for shots, lets do.. whenever a player that has the letter V or K is his name touches the puck.. drink. We'll drop dead by the second half.

I switched because Maxim Touch is 7 dollars compared to 42 dollars for VS gut.

Oh, and cortisone shots are given directly into the tendon, not the vein, ouch!

Dats - I'm gonna run a background check on you... I want to figure out how you bought a house, went to Miami, and still manage to buy new rackets and clothes every other week... WITH NO JOB.

    Dats,

    http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/2/rankings/powerindex/default.asp

A link for you. I told myself, that if I ever serve slower than the top 10 women I would retire and take up another sport. That or turn 150 like Xisbum or Sappy's health.

*insert noise of Sup breaking Red Code string from racquet*

On a brighter note. Drak told me that the machine we used today is not as accurate at the actual radar gun. Something about the distance to where you actual measure the speed of the ball. So we should ad 7mph. That case we were indeed bombing them away. However I hit bigger with a different string with the same machine as well. That bugs me.

*gasp* I sound like Auzzie. This is worse than the swine flu.

Email me your phone number, and I will call if I am running late.

    only you, PP

I never hit with her, but she was the Director's golden girl. I taught there when school was in session so I believe she was down at school. Gosh those weekend clinics were a pain to teach... 7 am to 9 pm and once I didn't even take a break! (end sounding like Sup)

Equipment is the only legitimate reason sometimes...

No way Matt Stafford (#1 NFL draft choice) is 6-3

Look at this E:60 show were Sharapova made him over.

    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4107931&categoryid=3060647

She stood next to him and it was like me standing next to TheJRK. OR TFM standing next to me .. or Shcmad standing next to TFM .. or Topaz standing next to Shcmad,... or Xisbum standing next to Topaz.. or PPL standing next to Xisbum. Heck anyone standing next to PPL.

    Rock on PPL!

Dang, Allie, just did a google map to your tennis club, and it's a hike - 60 miles and more than an hour. Hope you folks in Tundra-land have some St. Bernards and plenty of Sam Adams.

Is that place still for sale, by the way? Looks like a good deal for someone looking to run the best damn tennis club in America. Hint, Hint, caped one.

Come on dude shes wearing 4 inch heels bro. And the NFL lists him at 6'2" 225 at the combine. So that 6'2" is the accurate accurate mark.

And yes ill try some black code with red X-1 both17g's

i buy low and sell high, JRK!
i don't buy a lot of clothes dood! and my recent nike sleeveless dealios were $11 bucks each.... so i bought 4 of them. wooo.
when you guys are all retired and i have no money, i think we will see the error of my ways. but hopefully by then, i find something i enjoy that makes money and/or my girlfriend is rich. PLZZZZZZ!

tecnifibre felt sweet.. i like my racquets around 11.7 ideally, so it is pretty close and swung easy. I LIKE IT! gimme gimme!

on another note... a stray cat jumped over our fence and was attacking a baby bunny. they both ran away as we tried to interevene... but then the baby bunny came back... missing a lot of fur and bleeding. :(
so i was able to capture it and put it in a cage.
but now i have no idea what to do.
i shoved some lettuce and water in there.. but right now the poor thing is in shock. i''ve got PICTURES!
gotta google bunny care now... and we are probably getting a puppy tomorrow, so this is WAAAY too many pets right now.

    an interesting day.... indeed.

p.s. - grill is assembled... meat is in fridge.... have cases of sam adams and sierra nevada chilling. woooooooooooooo
p.s.s. - all i know is i was in the triple digits with the 320. so i'm buyin 2 of them chumpies wooooo wooo

    ^^^ I have a Sig Sauer P229 that could ease the bunny's pain, J/K.

I love animals, not so much cats since I'm deathly allergic, but all other animals, including bunny rabbits. Hopefully it will be ok... can't you just take it to an animal hospital?

Ever hear of cat scratch fever? That's 'cuz cats are dirty and when they scratch you, you get all kinds of f***ed up. :-?

Are you coming over tomorrow or what? I want you to show me how to buy stocks or whatever the hell it is you are doing. Also, I bought a bunch of lotto tickets so hopefully I win that 220 mil, woot!!! :)

If I win, I will buy all MAC members the racket of their choice.

    Hey Alice, according to this:

    First Time Visitor to WW?
For a limited time, first time visitors to West Winds Tennis & Fitness Center are invited to play an hour or an hour and a half as our guest…no court fees and no guest fees! Bring a friend or tell us your approximate level and we’ll find you someone to play with during your visit. Simply give us a call or e-mail to info@westwindstennis.com with the day and time you are interested in playing and we’ll “get the ball rolling!”

You and Xisbum (a first time visitor) should get to play for free, right? ;)

Google the address and look at the first two listings. They could be old, but they are interesting.

And it's Newfoundland to me. I'll hitch up the dogs early Sunday and break out the parkas.

It's not just "in" Maryland; it's IN Maryland, like almost on the Canadian border.

Hope something comes of this; you'd be a terrific and profitable club owner/head pro. :)

You should drop in Sunday just to "visit" and give Allie a game plan, not that she needs one. Youngsters can just wait for us geezers to crumble into the clay, battered and bruised, but still defiant:

[for Allie] "to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee." Then you can buy me a beer.

    Wookie - USTA Match 1

    Tough loss today.
Played #1 singles for our team and lost 3-6, 6-2 TB(7-10).

Started out slow. Went down 0-3, then held and got a break. Managed to get it to 3-3. When things went downhill. Lost that set 3-6.

Opponent was pretty good. Hit well from both sides - had a 2hbh. Serve was lacking, but on the slick World Gate courts, they were sort of effective.

Next set, I was determined to just bomb the hell out of my first serve. I found my rythm and started clicking. No aces, but a lot of service winners. I was also working the slice serve off the slick courts on the deuce side for free points at 15 or 30 all. Also started using my slice backhand to take advantage of the fast conditions.

Felt good going into the tie break. Was up 6-3or 6-4 at one point, then I just went flat. Dumped some forehand returns in the net. NExt thing I knew, it was 6-9. I won my serve to make it 7-9. Next point, got in a rally, hit an approach shot. My opponent got it back and I was there for the volley - then the ball clipped the tape, went over my racket, and landed in. It was over.

    The Good:
-Recovered well from a suck azz first set.
-Was aggressive with serve, mixed it up, slice woked well.

    The Bad:
-Need to get off to a better start in the sirt set.
-Still need to work on some of the low short balls.

    The Ugly:
-Need to tighten up game in that tie break. Better yet, win first and second set and avoid tie break.

Sorry about the loss, but sounds like it was a dogfight, JRS! While it seems to be a tough loss, I'd say it was a great result. Must have been a great match to watch. Most often matches that close are only decided by little things. Why do you think you went flat 4 points from the match?

Think they'll let me in the door? All I did was google an address.

Yeah, Sup, join the TWMAC contingent in Nova Scotia. Remember, it's an hour drive, 2 hours by dog sled. ;)
