from my club's rules for the singles ladder play:
You may challenge a player that is listed 1-3 spots above your position. Players will set up their own matches by contacting the player they wish to challenge.
Players who get called to play a challenge match may decline to play a match only once. If you decline to play someone after that, you will forfeit your spot to the challenging player.

too bad we didn't draft the rules before we started. but who knew it would all devolve into something so contentious? i know yawl are waiting for the triumphant return of your king, but i'm thinking "nothing to be done." which makes me wonder if the ladder's become our own tower of babel. and we all know what happened to that attempt to reach He Who Enshrouds Himself In Nike & Mystery.

Peeps, I had thought it was pretty obvious...but maybe not...and I hate to be the one to break it to y'all, but this:

    Should be pretty clear.

He's gone. *whoosh* Into the sunset. He's not reading. So, if you post to him, you aren't going to get a reply, ok?

If you need to contact him, and you don't already have his email/#, email him through the link in his profile.

    Thanks, and God Bless!

I think it started off as a great idea, and turned into a bit of a mess. But, I also had though it a good place to have everyone's info in one place so we can set up matches, particularly if someone is getting ready for a big match/tournament, or something like that. Personally, I was wanting to get more singles match in, but ended up getting plenty in leagues.

As far as ranking, that depends on how honest the users are, not only with their own ratings but their scores and their willingness to play all comers.

That being said, DVI, if you don't like your rating, you can edit it yourself, you don't need Sup to do that. I think he did change some earlier on, when certain people were way underrated, but you can change your own. Have you played JRS at all? That seems like it would be a good match-up.

Xis and Alice, I may be able to come out this weekend depending on my BAC at the time.

Turns out that I will be around for the first part of Legg Mason this year, so Ill come out for some early round action!

One last thing... in the last three weeks I have somehow managed to forget how to hit a forehand or get more than 30% of my serves in!!! :(

sup, just realized that i missed your call today. no messages. but i'll assume you've either read my post or got message from topaz. awesome. as mentioned, i need to get my strongbow 300s leaded up to 11ozs and maybe a paint job of adidas symbol. I'm pretty sure i'll be out in the shringlington park tomorrow to meet the rest of the crew so please bring scale and balance board if it's not too much trouble. i'll bring you beer (maybe)

topaz, this is sap's PR person. he has tentatively agreed to a hit tomorrow with aforementioned superior players posted above. maybe ladder matches? sap will bring his awesome underhand serve to ditch up some pain. please tell sup to be there if he can. I've also emailed you with the same message per your instructions. k tx

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Wookie no happy with hit tonight

Not happy with my hit tonight.

My hitting partner reserves the courts for 7pm - 3 of the 6 courts are closed for repairs - we get there and these two tennis pros say they have all three courts until 8pm when we paid to reserve one court. We get the park guy to come out. One pro agrees to give us the court at 7:15.

Anyway, we get on, hit for a while and start a set. I go up 4-1, but he slowly comes back. It's 4-4 on his serve and we've played like 10+ deuce points. The longer I make him serve, the more tired I see him getting. All a sudden, at deuce, he just gives up. He's like - I need a break - you can have the game. I have no energy.

I'm like huh???? So I'm thinking, we're just going to take a break and finish the set. Then he tells these dudes to come and take the court. I'm like double huh????

Sappy, we may have found your match!!!

i was only able manage a few bites before my triglyceride level skyrocketed and made me light headed. but they were unbelievably luxurious bites. sappy, i hope you can go when you come up for the us open...how could you not love a guy who offers "whipped lardo" as a spread for bread?! my husband had the "spicy pork and rice cakes" and it was like the centrifuged and concentrated essence of the best of my mom's cooking.

I think you had left already last time we played there, but at 6pm a group of like 100 kids and 2 tennis pros showed up and took over 2 courts at TJ... they just kicked the people off the court. I'm not sure if that would happen today but it would suck if it did.

I vote for an alternate location. Also, I can meet up earlier than 5pm if anyone else can, at least we'd have a better chance of getting a court somewhere. 5pm on a Friday is the equivalent of 8pm any other day of the week, peeps will be off early today.

Other than Wakefield High School, there is:

    Braddock RD, Alexandria, VA

    Pickett St courts

    JRK's place

Barcroft courts -> they don't show on the map because they aren't there yet, but they are part of the rec center, and are two courts right next to the road, like ShcMad mentioned yesterday

Then there is always Wakefield Park (not to be confused with Wakefield HS)

    Wakefield PARK

You can reserve courts for 5 bucks an hour at Wakefield Park.

And, last but not least, Kenmore Middle School (picture is dated, but there are four courts there):

    morning TWMAC.

wookie -- jajajaja. that's pretty farked up to 1) quit and 2) give the courts away. the only thing i can think of is that he was EXTREMELY tired and at some point i'm thinking your body pulls a fight or flight response. he decided flight. epic FAIL.

sappy -- i need my own PR person or someone who posts on my behalf. is it expensive? can i pay an illegal with under the table cash? teach me sifu.

alice -- i'm not entirely sure if your pic is showing chunks of pork fat or if that's really fatty meat. doesn't matter to me. it looks effing yum to me. you decepticons have surprisingly good taste in food. i guess there's more to you than meets the eye.

I should have known. He was the guy who didn't want to play me in USTA league since he had a party that night.

I guess I'm just a court rat. Not worth my time if we only play a little more than an hour.

I like Wake just because there are 7 courts there which means we have better odds at landing a court. But I'd be down to play wherever.

Can anyone hit earlier than 5pm?

Just wondering - with all the people who play tennis in the area, why aren't there more courts?

For example - Fairfax county has lighted softball fields all over the place, but out where I live, I can only think of two tennis courts at a fairfax county park, and they aren't lighted.

Hopefully, Bready park reopens the repaired courts soon.

The courts at Wakefield Park are booked? Or Wakefield HS?

I can hit as early as 345-400pm. I think Auzzie mentioned he could hit at 430pm. Skunk told me she was off work today.

    I want this shirt http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageMANIKE-NMFDBPO.html

    **EDIT**

JRstriker - I don't think there are a lot of people that play tennis here, just so few courts that it makes it seem like a lot of people. I wish there were more courts at parks... most of the courts around here are connected to a school it seems like.

I played a flexleague match yesterday, down at Freedom HS in Woodbridge. Eight lighted courts, with two backboards, and my opponent and I were the only ones out there (of course, it was also in the morning).

Only took 20 minutes from the mixing bowl (she was coming from Stafford, so it was a good in-between spot).

Except for a few nets that were not in good condition, the courts were great.

Before districts, I played one of my teammates at Woodson HS in Fairfax (right across from Fair City Mall). Eight courts again, but very slopy. No windscreens, either.

Magma, I doubt Wakefield PARK is booked...I was just saying you *can* book courts there, for cheap. Eleven courts, lighted, in good condition. Five bucks an hour is worth it to me when I play there, to ensure that I get a court, because it does get very busy there.

So, yes, JRK, I would agree that the best courts seem to be attached to schools (with the possible exception of Ida Lee courts in Leesburg, Wakefield Park, and Jefferson District). It makes sense...they need courts for their teams.

    *************

I am in the middle of some kitchen 'improvements'...will likely head out around 4:30-5pm, as long as it isn't storming *crossing fingers*.

    So, we are decided...Wakefield HS???

    JRK has courts.
nobody is ever at Kenmore so if you don't need light (i played until 8:30 last night and it was still light out), there are 4 lovely courts just waiting for you.
as I find my string combo, i would luuuuuuuv to play you in this 95deg heat. i played krappe tennis yesterday... i mean 3.0 at best but i wore this guy out after 2 sets.. and i was just waiting for him to say it.... the ol' (wanna play a tiebreak instead of a 3rd set?) and i was like... jajajajajaja I FINISH YOU NOW!!!
i might be able to sneak out for a quick hit.. but probably not. darn.
i am still dehydrated and hurtin from last night. oy.
gotta go restring one of these dealios with BBO now.

^^^Lol, there is *always* miscommunication there!

I rescheduled a DC league match there once, had the guy repeat it to me twice on the phone. Sure enough, my players get there...no reservation. Absolutely no record of it. I have no idea what happened...more than likely, I just got 'erased'. :(

What I like to do, sometimes, is, if I get there and the courts are all full...walk over to the desk and reserve for that same time I'm there, then take my slip of paper over and kick people off. I always ask to look at the book myself, too. I'm sure they love it when I show up!

Ok, hopefully we can get some tennis in before the storms hit!

    Again...Wakefield HS!
