Dats lives about a block away from Kenmore, and I hear he has a big sound stage set up in his back yard for entertainers and such, plus a refrigerated storage celler full of fine wines and about 150 different beers. ;-)

Hahaha, wish I could make it but I'll be in Annapolis from 8am-6pm for a Kendo tournament. The worst part is I don't even get to fight anyone, I'll be judging the whole time.

czech09 - Sorry to hear your ride bailed on you... not to worry though, it was packed at Wakefield and we were only able to get one court so people would've been just sitting and waiting anyway.

I just saw that picture of me serving. I didn't realize I toss the ball about 97 feet into the air.

Shcmad - Where is the picture of my one jumpshot/jumping backhand volley? (Kobe!)

Yeah..............you do toss it about 97-98 feet in the air. It's agonizing for the receiver in the other end because after the split-step, the ball hasn't even started to descend.

I dont' remember taking the shot of the "Kobe!" It must have been after I put the camera away.

The Kobe was solid last night. I felt stupid trying to lob against you, because your overheads are guaranteed point winners.

I gotta say I enjoyed playing last night. Although I am not a big fan of playing doubles, its good to see doubles bringing out everyone's strengths.

JRK- serving is always a strong point for you, but I really think just doubles in general is a good game for you. You have great touch at net, aforementioned solid overheads are money, you know how to cut off volleys and close the net, and its tough to get the ball past you.

JRS- your serves seemed to have improved alot. There is just this consistent dipping spin on every serve that curves the ball in at the last moment it seems everytime. Groundies its tough to judge in doubles, but I know you hit that one backhand winner (when my back was turned), and I remember commenting on how smart you were playing your forehand. But in general you are just so solid on everything- I noticed that I intentionally tried to avoid hitting to you unless I had a sitter.

DVI- I have to say I felt the most pressure playing against you in doubles. Serve- not the biggest on the court, but hard to return well. Groundies- seem to take the biggest hop out of the strike zone, so once again harder to control hitting against them. Volleys- couple shanks that I could not read where the ball was supposed to be heading :). Get yourself to a Physical Therapist to rehab the knee, and toss the ball more into the court, and I think alot of your problems solve themselves.

Schmad: I still maintain that technically you are not a 3.0. You have the capability to hit some unexpected beauties that just scream past the opposition. The only problem I noticed was that I felt my pulse racing everytime I would see you wind up for one of those- for fear of not knowing what the outcome is going to be. If you kind of find your safe range where you don't feel the need to say go for huge swings on sitter volleys right above the net for example then your rating jumps to 4.0 right away. Your 3/4 pace balls would be just as effective as your full swinging shots, and you would be more consistent with them. Its also a shame you had to play with me, because I definitely wasn't holding up my side of the doubles bargain yesterday.

    Thanks again for playing guys.

SHCMAD should have never been a 3.0 to begin with. But the hitting to warm up shcmad hits the ball alot better placement/consistenc/spin wise than the match SHCMAD.

At least from what I saw but that been a while now so maybe SHCMAD has settled down in the matches a bit more.

Nah... Its SHCMAD and he hits really really hard :)

Thanks for clarifying it, Topaz. haha..

Hollywood, you're right. I'm still the same ol' Shcmad who hits better during practice than during matches. I think a lot of it has to do with mental problems.

Auzzie, thanks for sticking with me in doubles. I could feel from far away your pulse racing when I was at the net. Thanks for the advice. Let's see if I can put it to work..

Yesterday I felt like I was playing with a bunch of pros. All of you guys played great tennis: JRK had the "Kobe" dunk, Dats was constantly ranting about Guido while serving down-the-T aces, Auzzie with the on-the-run shots, and JRstreaker with the spinny serves. It was a good day.

Don't be silly! You can hit (and outhit) any one of us. And you are probably right about the mental part. Shot selection is key in tennis. You have alot of options for each shot, so picking the right one at the right time becomes extremely difficult.

Maybe ill drive down there on one of my days off soon because you are right it has been a while.

Im also looking for another job. Hopefully I can get a job on APG so I can drive like 5 minutes to work. But I may end up at Ft Meade. in which case i could make that drive every so often.

I think Im going to the bird today because I need a new pair of shoes. The rez i bought rub my pinky toe too much and the rest of my shoes are practically bald.

Another awesome day of hitting in NOVA with lovely peeps and open BR doors at Kenmore Middle. Much love for coming out to Sappy the Merciless, SchMad the Spinner, JJJosh and Lady JJ (AKA Mr. and Mrs. Smith - ask SchMad why), PPL the Pitiless and Lady Topaz, the Queen of Beastly Shots.

    Some notes:

    a) Lady JJ showed a wicked serve to the backhand corner of the ad court; almost unreturnable with any pace.

    b) Sappy has secretly been spending work days at Bollettieri's place, cuz he's hitting the ball a lot better than he used to.

    c) After hitting almost every volley into the net 2 weeks ago, SchMad really stuck some nice ones today against the JJs. Nice improvement, young Hokie-wan. You can be my net man anytime.

    d) In the "careful what you ask for" department, PPL asked for some practice slice shots from the old guy, and the old guy obliged with about 15 backhand drop shots in a row - all of which PPL mostly watched from the baseline, even after the geezer told him every backhand he hit would be the same shot. One word, young fast one - caffeine, and lots of it.

    e) Was very impressed with the accuracy and power of JJJ's overhead. Very impressed. But not as much as SchMad. Dude, bet that still hurts.

    f) Lady Topaz said she had a beast of a forehand these days, and she weren't lying - when you let her set up for it. So PPL and I devised a little game called "Run the Teacher." Yeah, I know we're mean, but so what? :)

Nice day again, guys. Next time let's try to play more games and do less hitting.

    Nice hitting today guys/gal!

Got to hit with Xisbum/PPL, they used their combination of X's slice and P's topspin to completely confuse me! 'Run the teacher' didn't last too long, as I had to cry 'no mas' after a bit!

Then I got to watch PPL try to run down Xis's bh/slice/dropper from my cozy spot on the baseline...quite entertaining!

PPL/Xis...someday we'll get out ladder matches in, when all of us aren't quite so tired. Xis, it was very nice of you to not mention how many times my 'beastly' FH sailed out by at least 6 feet. Oops! But yeah, when I get it, it is *niiiiice*!

JJJosh did something to Shcmad...might have involved an overhead smash!

I came very close to getting the infamous Sappy underhand serve on video...so close! What I did get on video was everyone's reaction after Sappy's serve went through Mrs. JJJosh's legs...only she wasn't the one receiving the serve! Will upload soon!

Someday, JJJoshes...I will be brave enough to go to Eden Center.

Also, Sappy, why are you so scared of me?

Hrm...ok, well, the video is uploaded. You can't really see the ball and what is going on, but you can hear our reactions and some smack talk pretty well.

***WARNING--->>>turn your volume down. I'm obnoxiously loud in the video. Sorry!

A self portrait of PPL, with 1/2 of Xisbum and most of Topaz...seem to be missing my lower teeth!

Hey PPL, if you cropped us out, that would make a nice picture of you! LOL

OH! And Xisbum, *thank you* for the Balance Bar...it hit the spot!

    • saw lots of tommy robredo flesh
    • basically spent the day with robin soderling as he did plyometrics, drills, hits, practice games against cilic (whose spinny serves he couldn't return!!)
    • ascertained that that cilic thinks that underpants are an unnecessary convention
    • realized that llllleyton hewittttt is short
    • realized that ivo karlovic is so tall that his serves are hit like overheads--from the baseline
topaz, i'll be there monday afternoon with my friend amy--want to meet up?

thanks for asking, but we (and our trees) are fine. my kids have been a little edgy from the terrible storms in nyc all week (watching lightning from a 37th floor hotel room is pretty spectacular), and when it started to rain yesterday, they got nervous and i actually said "no worries...it just looks like a passing shower." ha ha. at one point, the rain appeared to be falling sideways because of the winds.

    my version of the story:

i play back when jjjjosh is at the net and warns him about stepping up with him. warning promptly ignored

    ~quick flash back~
i was at net with jjjosh. bang.. overhead, i take on in the chin FML
    ~end flash back~

├ępouse a la jjjosh serves up a mean one down the t, i chip it with my frame

    ~side story~
i love flat beams racquets b/c framed shots tends to still fly forward. tfm once told me to simply ignore my strings since i use my frame to meet the ball most of the time
    ~end side story~

as the ball floats back to the other side of the court, i catch a glimpse of JJJosh salivating at what is about to be a mean pancake dished back to our side ripe for his signature smash. F.. i recalled yelling as the scrambling on my side begins.

    ~side story 2~
mtvs show jackass enlightened me to a new term of gooch. which is more accurately described here
    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gooch
anyhow, the stunt was to hook up an electic pad to the gooch to shock each other. it looked painful. don't want that to ever happen to me
    ~end side story~

schmad decides to the evasive action by moving to the middle with a text book maneuver of exposing his back and racquet to the back of the head for full protection. However jjjossh spotted the move and crafty super smashed the ball to angle off the court surface for schamd's only venerable spot from the position.. the gooch .. <-- FTW

It was fun playing with all of you guys (sadly I couldn't hit with you before you left, Xis).

Sappy, it was....uhh fun pairing up with you for doubles. But, Sappy, you sandbagger, you ain't no 2.5. *shakes fist*

JJjosh and the Mrs, it was great fun playing against you guys. It seems JJjosh's backhand got even better than last time I met him.

PP-Lover, I didn't wanna play a ladder match against you cuz I hated how you got to every one of my shots, and then hit sharp crosscourt forehand winners.

    my version of the story:
see sappy hit a sitter, run over to hit overhead at sappy's chin again, but have limited control of overhead and hit schmad instead.

Anyway seriously I am sorry for hitting everyone, I have no placement and so just try and smash it hard.

Sappy played realy well today, he is awsome when he wants to be. Nice to finaly play a match with you ShcMad, I am not use to playing someone with such a heavy consistent shot, you really bullied me today. Hope we can play again before you go back to school.
