Topaz – Again congratulations! Shintan17 is correct. Realistically, many experienced players would agree that a USTA competitive NTRP benchmarked early 3.5 female like yourself is basically the equivalent of a 4.5 informal female “club player.” There is a similar but lower sliding scale on the male side as well. :)

So Shintan – why don’t YOU challenge Topaz to a match, and give Zapvor a break? :)

Have you ALL been smoking crack?!?

No way you could put 4.5 next to my name in any situation, but I'm flattered that you seem to think so. I'm working on it...maybe some day! :)

Sup2dresq – Thank you for your inquiry. I will try to let you know before tomorrow morning, as soon as Down Dog figures out her schedule.

Im in agreement with Topaz. You are all smoking crack if you think you can put a 4.5 next to her name. Next thing you know you'll try to convince us that that Shcmad is relatively 6'3, PurePrestige is light on his feet, Zapvor can make the Bovine University Tennis team and I'm pasty white in skin tone.

    Topaz is 3.5 max.

So onward to business? We almost have 2 courts filled up for the meeting. Hurray.

Sorry I couldn't check the thread earlier. I was out all day. However...Count me in, boss.

KoreanHB is out of town right now. I think you could possibly get an answer from him by late tomorrow.

P.S. Very funny comment above about Shcmad being 6'3"... HARDY HAR HAR! :)

Sorry for the late response. I was caught in that wonderful DC traffic along 29s. A nice accident. Ever seen 'Final Destination 2'? A truck carrying logs rolled over. Lovely.

Anyway, I checked w/ the wife & I cannot make this one. Family commitments (READ: I have to watch the kids while she does something w/ her friends). How often do you have these? I think I can make the next one if I get my request in early enough.

I'm too looking forward to hit with you all.

I agree. Daniela looks like a walking godess in that picture. The things I would do to her..............

Anyways, I changed my avatar too because it was getting a little boring. I might change it back to Daniela's later when I'm bored with this one.

Yikes...Final Destination movies creep me out.

We have these 'meets' about once a month in average probably. But, nothing's engraved in stone, so dates and places shift around all the time. Keep checking this thread in the next couple weeks though.

Anybody here play in the 40s tournaments around the Mid Atlantic? I turn 40 this year so I am eligible. I'm just wondering what the competition is like. I can still hang w/ a few of the juniors & college players at my club, but that doesn't really matter as the pro is older than me & can kick my butt all day, every day.
I'm also planning on playing a few doubles tournaments w/ a friend & was wondering what the good ones were. I'd hate to travel to Baltimore (I'm coming from Warrenton, VA), just to lose in the 1st round.

Unfortunately still not sure if we can make it (due to work issues). But it's great to see that it looks like you have a full contingent who can. So if the situation changes, we might just show up on the day of the event. If all slots are full then, we'd be happy to observe and take pictures. :)

The big difference, if you are going to call it out, was that day you did your best to try to keep it in court and cover more court. I guess you got comfortable enough afterwards to just wing it and thats where the "0.5" went. Also add in that 0.5 in that for politeness and the usually TWMAC curve. :)

    No memory problems.

ACtually wouldnt that be 2.5 plus 0.5 plus the learning curve .5?

Am I being too hard? I think I'm a 4.5 and cousins daughter is a 3.5, so thats how i measure.

    2.5
You are learning to judge where the ball is going, although your court coverage is limited. You can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.

    3.0
You are fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots, but are not comfortable with all strokes and lack execution when trying for directional control, depth, or power. Your most common doubles formation is one-up, one-back.
    3.5
You have achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but need to develop depth and variety. You exhibit more aggressive net play, have improved court coverage and are developing teamwork in doubles.
    4.0
You have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate-paced shots. You can use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success and occasionally force errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident.
    4.5
You have developed your use of power and spin and can handle pace. You have sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and attempt to vary game plan according to your opponents. You can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. You tend to overhit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in doubles.

    .0
You have good shot anticipation and frequently have an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be structured. You can regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls and can put away volleys. You can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, overhead smashes, and have good depth and spin on most second serves.
    5.5
You have mastered power and/or consistency as a major weapon. You can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hit dependable shots in a stress situation.
    6.0 to 7.0
You have had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and have obtained a sectional and/or national ranking.

    7.0
    You are a world-class player.

7.5 - You have reach Safin level and must retreat back to 3.5. Only after you attempt to climb a mountain.

Level from 2.5 *snickers and looks at topaz*.. to 4.5 I think. So I would say the average is 3.0 and mid 20's (though Im the eldest in the 30's)

Hope you can come. It's a lot of fun and I try to make it competitive.

It looks like so many people are interested of coming....COOOOOOOL!!

    http://www.circledfarm.com/about.html

If anyone is interested, this place is having a weekly (every Friday) night tennis social from 7:00pm-10:30pm. $20 at the door and play RR doubles. Snacks and drinks (including alcohol) are provided I heard...I am going tonight for the first time to meet another TWer. I know it's a bit far from most of you here, but if interested. (It's like 30 some miles from my place, too)

Sup, i'd give you 5.5 if your weapon is consistency. Though I mean, you'd have to show us you playing tournament style for us MAC'ers to really rate ya.
I'm tired of seeing the patty cake shots from Sup.

Also, Shcmad I think is the highest rated player in the MAC having achieved Safin status, though achieving that status he has regressed to 3.5 with me.

LOL...Shcmad is always special. He will be a next "el jefe" of the TW MAC once the boss is retired and Zap runs away from the coup detat after having a full control of the TW MAC for a short period.

    Sup2Dresq –

You’ll be glad to know that a USTA competitive NTRP benchmarked 4.5 male player like yourself is basically the equivalent of AT LEAST a 5.0 or even 5.5 informal male “club player.” :) Accept it.

    Nothing informal about me.

To be honest. USTA competitive marker should be the marker. There isnt a 2 rating system unless you count Zapvors belief in his tennis ability.

So check the list and see where you are at.

P.S. I think I'm a 4.0 after this conversation.. I must of reached Safin level and didnt know it.

I absolutely agree with you that “USTA competitive marker should be the marker.” But there seems to be a second, informal rating system for when you want to sign up at tennis clubs, especially doubles socials. For example, if you sign up to play at a typical tennis club doubles social event at 4.0, then you might be playing with people who would not be competitive at a USTA 3.0 Sectional Championship. :)
