FWIW - I knew a guy who used to own two 5 Guys. One was in Richmond, I forgot where the other one was. Said he made good money on the franchise, but had to sell after his partner wanted out.

His wife wouldn't let him just hang out at home so he went back into Gov. contracting (bummer).

I had to go eat Sushi last night after all the food posts earlier. I think I'll draw the line at Five Guys though! I do love the burgers there. Jalapenos, Mushrooms, Bacon and Cheese! Then, chase it with a handful of Tums...

One of two ways. I am a simple man.. so olive oil, little garlic, pepper and a skillet.. im good to go. If i feel i need a change. Breaded and baked.

Otherwise.. just put it on a hook and let me at it. Fish good.

Sounds good. I love fried fish and teriyaki, but I'm trying to add more healthy fish recipes to my diet. I'll have to give your simple one a try.

In other news... after my abysmal serving at our last get together - I hit 225 serves on Monday and fit in some practice yesterday. Did it take you guys awhile before you could come in cold and serve decently? I recently started playing singles on my club ladder and I always lose the first set - part of that is it takes me awhile to not be overly tensed up on my groundstrokes too.

Email me MiniLil and we can set up a time to hit at Severn Valley. I'm usually there 9-10pm a few times during the week (thats the only time I seem to be able to get walk on during the winter).

The bottom group. Its a great way to get court time, although a couple of the guys in that group are a hard to schedule time with.

Whoa, that's a lot of serve practice! You gotta make sure you have decent serve mechanics otherwise you'll just enforce bad technique by practicing so much. Either that, or your arm will go flying out of its socket!

I think anyone can come in cold and serve decently if they don't try to serve fast, that's what I did at the last MAC meeting. I just took it easy and I won every one of my service games <gives Topaz a dirty look>. The one time I tried to serve fast I ended up hitting the exit sign that was 10 feet above TFM's head. :(

Is 225 too much? Whenever I go to work on serve, I hit three 75 ball hoppers (takes about an hour). It think my mechanics are OK, but there are lots of tweaks to make, I'm sure. I usually have to make adjustments as I go through the first 100 serves, then I'll settle for a bit.

I do try to start slow and get a contact point, but I just seem to forget things until I miss a bunch. My current one that I mess up on - throw farther into the court. I drop my toss arm too early too. I think I should just print all these things on a tshirt ;)

Nitefly. My advice is go out with your hoppers. Set up cones, empty cans of balls in the middle of the service box, out wide and down the middle on both sides.

Serve consistenly to get them in and hit the target. If you miss the shot twice. Step back.. regroup and try to get 10 in. Once you master 20 or so.. you step it up and hitting the target is a good way to keep you on target (no pun).

If you just go out there and try to blast.. well.. you may not get the results you want.

Yeah like Sup said, just make sure to work on your placement. That's the most important key to be an effective server. Forget about how HARD you can hit the ball. The placement is even more important at lower level. Good luck!!

Thanks for the advice Shintan and Sup.

I have not been getting the results I want with my serve practice. I'll give this a try. Anyone know where I can get some cones? Up to this point I do aim for parts of the box (right half or left half basically), but I count it a success if it goes in at all. I'm sure I have been focusing too much on power. It seems like a high bar for me to get 10 in spot in a row, but I would be best pleased if I could! Now... if I could just find that elusive $20 hr coach to stand and watch me serve for an hour.

I hear ya. My goals for the year are to have a legit second serve, a first server percentage above 50%, and a forehand that I'm not changing every other time I play. I figure the ladder rankings will fall in place after that!

I pretty much never get court 1 as a walk on during winter. I'll have to go check out Dick's this weekend. I can probably hit with you this weekend to Lil. Im off Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon. Maybe Tuesday too!

    Nitefly,

You seem like such a nice guy. I enjoyed playing doubles with you.

I can give you a lesson if you want. Just get court time somwhere between you and here. Say Cabin John or Rock Creek park.. for an hour and we can work on that serve.

    Send me an email: Sup2dresq@aim.com

I love helping those who have potential.

I actually took this a LONG time ago, when you first started using it. I love Yoda! I used it someplace else, and in the process fiddled with it a bit...that must be why it is bigger.

Want me to send you the big one? ;)

Nothing going on in Florida. Unfortunately, I don't like dealinig with crap, so I haven't been setting up anything. Too many chiefs and not enough indians. You know what I mean Chief Zap??

Don't need cones. I use 3 or 4 gatorade bottles - works just as well - iff you need orange cones, just use the orange flavor!!
