xisbum you dirty lurker. the guys on this senior team were really really crafty. they lost both singles matches to my team but we only won one dubs match (mine :) ) and lost the other 2 dubs. pretty handily too.

i knew they would be trouble and they played their crafty dinky slicey lobby drop shottey version of tennis that drove our younger guys batty. it was kinda funny.

the only reason they didn't faze me is i play the same game with younger legs. :)

    LOL!
TFM beating up on old people. Stay classy TFM ;)

BTW- I don't understand this. If you don't warm me up, I sure as heck won't warm you up and we'll start out even....

jrstriker -- dinky slicey drop shotey crafty tennis doesn't need much warm up you know. plus these old geezers been done doing it for the past 50+ years so it comes more naturally than walking for them.

yep, that "hit winners during warmup" must be in the Mean Old Lady Handbook of Tennis. i played one a few weeks ago that kept hitting angled winners when she was warming up at the net! and my mean old lady opponent last night hit drop shots during warmup. cuz apparently, she only had 2 shots: the drop and the lob. fortunately for me, sonya my partner plays best when she's pizzed at the opponents, and we pounded those hard, hard courts last night running down her drop shots and lobs. today, i'm so sore that when i sneezed, i screamed because everything hurts so much. the younger woman whom we played was just plain mean. once, she called my second serve "out," and as i was walking over to the other side and was waiting for her partner to give me the ball back, she snapped at me, "it was out, all right? i'm sorry but it was out! OUT!" i swear to god i think that she mistook my everyday squinty-eyed asian features as a hostile, squinty-eyed glare about calling the serve out (which it wasn't anyway).

i can't get over all this negativity from opponents. we had one Mean Old Lady last week complain to the club director about us after the match, because apparently we were stressing her out by making sure that everyone played in compliance with the time restrictions. just as sonya was about to serve her first service game, this woman turned her back to us, to fix her ponytail and to chat with her partner. she also made us tussle to get the third ball whenever we were serving! we lost the first 3 games of the first set because we were so flustered, but then we won the next 6 games. so when this woman decided to go into the clubhouse to use the restroom after losing the first set, sonya made sure that she knew that she only had 2 minutes, which was a good move, because we found out after the match that apparently this woman has been known to hang out in the bathroom for up to 10 minutes if she's losing!!

funny how in my winless season last year, everyone was just as sweet as pie to me...

look who else just moved into my neck of the wilderness:

that's the wreath on my front door. decorative wreath, real live eggs. i hate those little squatters. they usually nest under my deck, and i have to spend a week on Hatch Watch, so that my kids don't have to be traumatized when my dog snacks on the baby birds. now we can't use the front door for a couple of weeks. the worst was when we had swallows under the deck a few years ago and when one of the hatchings died, the entire nest and my deck became infested with bird mites. ugh.

I had a nest under awning last year. I came out one day and it on the pation with the eggs all busted open.

Sometimes I would come out in the morning and see some cats just sitting underneath the nest almost waiting for the babies to fall out.

I found a sankeskin in my garage a week later so imagined the snake crawled up to the nest. It is possible the nest could have just fallen I guess. It was on a beam about 1/2 inch wide.

Its a shame those eggs werent there last month you wouldnt have had to used the dye for easter eggs. you could have put those one in your kids basket :)

hey folks. anyone been over to Pentagon city park lately? are those courts getting filled up pretty quickly? I'd assume they would be considering the great weather.

hahahahaha between TFM and alice I don't think my tennis game has ever been related to more ackward innuendo. awesome.

Usually prefer to play up in MoCo as its on the way home but I wouldn't mind setting up a net in the middle of consitution and playing some street ball ala sampras and agassi! hahahaha j/k

Altho I'm not too familiar with the courts downtown cept for gtown and howard. thoughts?

nice, its always a blast to hit w? TFM... i dunno if she's down for any dubs today (I think the last time she played was @ school last year before graduation, so she may be trying to shake off the rust) but I'll bring it up when I see her in an hour or so and see if she's up for something next week.

Sounds good man. Thursday are usually my best days as I have an automatic hall pass from the woman (yoga night). Where in MoCo do you usually hit. Cabin John is usually a favorite of mine... but depending on the day I can also get courtime over at georgetown prep.

FYSA re: P'gon City park courts... (damn just realized what I wrote and am now shaling my realizinf I've been working for Navy waaaaaay to long)

Got there round 5:30 and surprisingly didn't have to wait too long for a court(was technically first in line but I let 2 other pairs jump on before me b/c metro was causing my friend to run late) and got on by 6:15/6:20. got about 15 mins of hitting in when Arlington Co. Park po pos came by and closed the freakin courts b/c they needed to "prep" the courts for maintenance... Translation: kick everyone off all the courts, lock the gates, and put up police tape.

When I asked how come they said b/c its to prevent injury w/ the large cracks that had been forming... Translation some moron tripped and fell on the court (@ a public park) and is now suing the county for negligence for public safety.

    WTF!

Suffice to say we weren't all too thrilled about having to get back in line and wait for the one of the other 3 courts to open up... especially now that 4 other pairs showed up to play on top of the other 2 pairs that got booted from the courts. Additionally there were two people *****ing about who was going to get the next open court and some dude demanded to see another person's license to prove he was an arlington county resident (cue flashback to RA ****/moderator).

We opted to head over to quincy park in ballston and after waiting another 15/20 mins for a HS tennis match to finish (which considering it was HS girls tennis am surprised it didn't take longer) we were able to get right on and get in a solid hour of hitting.

In summary... Arlington Co park po po, suck, *****y people w/ sense of entitlement, suck, HS tennis coaches who get pissy about people trying to get onto open courts during their HS matches, suck.

However... getting to play tennis on an awesome afternoon, rocks, hitting a million balls b/c your hitting partner is consistant as hell, rocks, reminiscing about how much better your footwork and timing was when you were 19, eh, catching the dude on the next court stare @ your hitting partner and then become ackward when you catch him, Hy-larious!

    ok... rant over...

Sap... spoke w/ my friend about dubs and she could be up for it depending on day/time.

Zap... ditto just keep me posted on availability and I'll do the same.

down_chris - yo, that was me at Wake. were you playing a match or just hitting?
i saw you crush a backhand w/ perfect form. i imagine sup driving around
in the beetle to local courts checking on his clinic players. i think he would've
    been very pleased yesterday.
(except for my adidas headband... shhhhhh)
wakefield was actually pretty calm last night.
i assumed that the guy clinging to the door was just admiring my serve.
my serve was working so well that i decided to serve&volley a few times last night.. and even more surprising is it actually worked several times!
i would've bageled my opponent if i didnt always hit dropshots that land on my side of the court. HANDS OF STONE! but after 5 crappy ones, i think i finally got one over the net.
but it felt good to get out there and actually play a match. good times.

ok, anybody wanna buy some really nice RQiST1XL95 racquets? they play great, as my post that Sap dug up shows! anybody? 1 free ivanovic fist pump lesson w/ purchase. no charge... its free. for you. i do you this favor, ok?

i was just hitting...since i work nearby on tuesdays and thursdays, i'll usually hit with my friend on the evenings...

it was a nice night out though! once the wind died down...did you win? i didn't recognize you at first -- mainly because i didn't hear any Ivanovic grunts...

can you do ~5-6 near howard? might not need the girl since we may already have 4. (if the girl is cute, just send her. alone) they don't have lights there so it'd have to be quick and dirty. allocate 2 more hours afterwards for drinks and food. we can work out the rest of the info via email in avoidance of a zap hijack.

    woot.

dats.. i don't need racquets. i've concluded long ago that it's not the racquets holding me back

yah i won. it was an easy match for me where i never felt nervous at all and then we played a 3rd set just for exercise and this guy somehow went from 3.0 - 4.5 and took the set easily.
it was weird, i couldn't see anything under the lights and i hit some 1st serves at him that were 103-110 and he got them all back no problem. and then i hit some cross court volleys that he ran down and slapped winners down the line.
i was feeling pretty good about the match and my play before that extra set.
but i don't think i did anything too differently.
i've just got to remember the first 2 sets cuz i played great for a while.

sap.. wrong! you NEED these racquets. i've never seen a match more perfect! im talkin better than BENNIFER, better than TOMKAT, better than BRANGELINA!!!
pancake flippers rule!!! +5 power attribute. come on, mr.sapsrichaphan!!!!

i meant to say that i am surprised you found a court so quickly at quincy park. every time i go there i wait at least 45min, and then 15min after i get on some guy shows up with a reservation they printed out and kicks me off. i dont go there anymore.

next week is good. depending on the day we can do as early as you want. 1,2 or 3pm? please let me know. mitidor@gmail

hey zap, not quite sure yet as my USTA indoor team matches have started already and between practice and matches, things are a little murky. I'll let you know as I will have to drive in separately from my carpooler for whatever day we decide to hit again.

Speaking of USTA, there is a possibility of an Auzzie/JRStriker match up!

Not to mention me and Claire.
