AQ, I would find it very hard to believe if you don't get bumped up, but I know you went through this before. I think I'm 50/50, but like you, I already have my teams set and it doesn't matter if I get bumped or not either. Part of me hopes I don't...just so I can keep my 4.5 partners at 8.0 mixed! ;)

    No snow here! :(

AQ, that was the most ill-timed rain I've ever seen. Rolled in just after dark, and stayed around just long enough to ruin everything.

Oh, enough with the cold weather:? You lifetime Southerners think any time water moves from liquid to solid, it's cold. Where I came from, a hard frost=end of summer , a heavy wet show is just annoying, a crunchy, crusty snow is chilly. Cold, that's when you walk out the front door in the morning, the snow that fell the night before chirps like ground glass under your feet, and even after you warm your car up for 20 minutes, it won't shift because the automatic transmission fluid is set like Play-Doh. Gah. Never going back to that place. Never.

Played once in the 90's for a HS meet. I think they used decoturf back then. Not sure if they have updated their surface nowadays?

Wondering if anyone plays at Olney at night? Trying to find ppl to hit with. But finding player willing to hit in upper 40's to 50's temp is always hard.

No kiddin'. I'm gonna light my pumpkins again tonight. Just because I can.

I've learned that "cold" is about as relative as the word "traffic." Had a cousin who lived in Chicago for many years. Up there, he says, it ain't traffic...if it moves...at all. And I'm sure the NOVA people would laugh at us complaining about being down to just one lane on I-95 on the weekends (for bridge construction). And our rush hour? Oh, you mean our Rush 15 minutes? Ok, maybe 30.

But I like my commute best. Say about 20 paces. But it's a 7/24 kinda job with no pay. Except kisses.

Im pretty sure in the US that car is going to be a Scion. If you dont mind the different branding you should be able to get one soon enough. But not with all the extrs bolt on parts that one is sporting.

Im sure the first thing you will buy is the kit to have 4 different exhaust tips on 4 cyl motor. They stole that idea from an MV Augusta motorcycle.

You must not have kids. :p

200 horses under the hood? In a car that size...should get up and go!

I just can't even fathom the concept of a new car (although the used market really stinks these days after the Clunker program). Too many other things to spend that kinda money on.

But my 80-yr old dad...just bought himself an '01 Camero convertible. Call it his 3rd (or 4th?) Childhood. In near mint condition with only 55K original miles and ragtop. Garaged car. Very niiiiiice.

i am not entirely comforted by the idea of an 80 year old man in a 300+ hp two ton american muscle car. either he goes balls to the wall doing triple digits on I95 or he's letting moss grow on his balls doing single digits on I95. both of them scare me. but i loves me some convertibles. sapient and i are going to the thelma and louise in a convertible when we're 80+ and drive off the grand canyon holding hands.

Actually, TM, Dad is neither of the Old Geezers you describe. I'd call him more of the 5-Over crowd -- drives 5 over the posted mph. But I'll tell you this: he believes the acceleration lane of an interstate entrance ramp exists for a reason. ;)

And, you gotta remember, while he's a Child of The Depression, his young adult life was in the 50s. Car and Convertible nirvana. If I ever hit the lottery, first thing I'm gonna do is go out and buy him a '55 Bel Air convertible...kinda like this:

And, of course, a house with a garage to store it in. Gotta have the on-staff/call mechanic too.

Dad also has one of the coolest jobs for a Car Guy. He "DX"s cars from one dealer to another (usually as part of a deal for a customer). He's done it for 20 years for many of the top dealers here in town, driven all over the East Coast...and never (knock on wood) gotten a ticket. He gets to drive the latest cars and really give them a test ride.

He just flat out loves cars. Buys/sells 'em like some women do shoes. Nothing really expensive and darn if he usually doesn't make money on his personal vehicles. Guess I should call it "flippin'" ...cept it's cars instead of houses. Lot less money, hassle and a whole lot more fun.

Not a bad life. For 80.

AQ - sounds like your dad is living a charmed life then. don't think you'd find too many guys who wouldn't wanna test drive cars and change em out like i do my underwear. i have a neighbor with one of those old fangled cars. it has the turning radius of a garbage truck but it's a head turner. and you know it's a head turner because my 2 and 4 year old think it's awesome.

Bel Airs aer one of the easeist to find of all them cars. If you keep your eyes open you can score a nice one for like 30 G's.

Most sell for around 50 unless they are numbers matching original. But with a numbers matching car you get a ding in the muffler and your out 30 grand.

Probably not him. Although he's done some work for the Mazda dealer, it hasn't been recently. Personally, however, he's a fan. He and I have both owned several versions of the RX-7 and Miata. If I venture to something different, it'll probably be a 5. I have kids, ya know. Consumer Reports just gave it a decent "recommendation" (when compared to the Nissan Quest) but dinged it for iffy 3rd-seat seating. Said you could carry people or stuff. But not both.

Dad is somewhat charmed when it comes to cars...not so much when it comes to wives. #1 took off with 3 little kids, literally, whilst he was at work one day. #2, kicked off in the blink of an eye one morning...after 36 (mostly) blissful years of marriage. He shouldn't have to be alone at this stage of his life.

Still, I think he counts himself one of the lucky ones. Good woman, a few good kids (I hope I'm in that count), some good jobs along the way...and a decent (if not extravagant) life.

Yep, numbers-matching is a tough road. I have an uncle who was once into the whole restored autos scene. They're the definition of fanatics. Still, my favorite (ever) "sign" was posted in many of their cars:

Fine cars are like Fine Women. You can Look.

    BUT DON'T TOUCH!!

I have night owl tennis at FRC, so if you feel like getting a hit in, let me know Auzzie.

Sap, actually whoever wrote that article above needs work on his/her reading comprehension on the part about "fundamentally odd" et al.

Here's the actual quote from Isaacson's book: "From the beginning of their relationship, Gates was fascinated by Jobs and slightly envious of his mesmerizing effect on people. But he also found him "fundamentally odd" and "weirdly flawed as a human being," and he was put off by Jobs's rudeness and his tendency to be "either in the mode of saying you were **** or trying to seduce you."

But overall I personally think both Gates and Jobs to be what they are, differently gifted human beings, but as humans - both had plenty of flaws. Jobs was just the bigger ***.

Yeah Auz, welcome! For some odd reason, you seem like someone we've heard from somewhere before...perhaps from a far and distant parallel universe. Seems very much like deja vu.

Yeah that'd be awesome! I'll hit you up!

I also get deja vu, that I have tested dozens of your frames for 10 minutes or less and fallen in love with all of them. I'm also picturing you as a racquet mad scientist who always combines the perfect specs!

am I reading this correctly?!?!?!?! could i even get a point off of you?
Why do I need to take Downs downs? I'd probably lose to him before stepping on court anyway solely based on the championship rings he apparently has amassed this season. His reputation precedes.
