It was double header day in DC this morning! Had a 4.0 dubs and 3.5 singles match scheduled back to back.

4.0 dubs partner was this nice gal, former DIII player who's coming back into the game. Our opponents were also a 4.0/3.5 combo (though I had them pegged backward from what their actual ratings were...funny that). We won the first set on the dusty clay pretty handily at 6-3. And then, oh, that second set slump. It reared its ugly head and we got down 1-4! But we dug in, and when we got it to 4-all, we knew we had them (the slumped shoulders gave it away). Broke and I served it out for a 6-3, 6-4 win!

And I had about one minute to run off, change shoes, and start my singles match. In retrospect, that was probably best, because if I had had time to 'cool' down, I think it would've been harder for me to get going again (objects in motion tend to stay in motion, objects at rest...yada yada yada). Didn't know the gal I was playing at all, which should've been my first red flag!

She was a pusher. A GOOD pusher. But I dug in, and got a 5-2 lead before long, mostly by coming to the net (yes, you read that correctly). I had had a good net day in the dubs match, so I guess it carried over.

And then it was 5-3. And then it was 5-4. And then...I think you guessed...I lost the first set 5-7. I was pissed, I was tired, and I wasn't really sure what else to do...this girl got EVERYTHING back. (I know realize that I had stopped coming to the net as much...hmmm).

Second set, I go up 1-0. Then 1-1. Then 2-1. Four minutes left. I need to tie up the games to give myself a chance at the one point tiebreak. 3-1!!! And then, yes, we run out of time.

Sudden death TB time. She spins. I win, elect to receive. She serves, I return down the line, and yes....are you ready...are you sitting down...I came into the net. Overhead, one and done. Thank you very much! HA!

So, AQ, I dedicate today's net play to you!!! :) Just...don't expect it too often ok?

And now, it is time to relax and watch some friends play. With beverage in hand! AHHHhhhh....

^^^What he said. The Topaz Lady is on a roll.

@CB - not quite totally out of the woods yet, but at least I know that on clay, anyway, the ankle can last through a match. Have a couple of hard court dubs matches coming up next week, and we'll see how it reacts. So far, I'm encouraged.

    Thanks everyone!

Auzzie, 4.0 DC yes, 4.0 NOVA no. But there was a heck of a party at FFX afterward regardless. A former captain of yours was there.

No. TL and her team (which is based out of FFX) had the big spread. We always bring 'pink stuff' and it was especially strong tonight! Whew! Peeps went out to dinner, too, but I have an 8am, work, and then 8:30, so I'm being a stick in the mud and came home.

Several of us were thinking of defecting teams just because of the food spread!

May be playing tri-level for Mr.. Hahaha! (hey, I like Indian Wells)

Topaz, are you playing on a mixed team this summer? If so, who is your captain? My league is finished, don't have any play opportunities until September.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I have crossed the borders to a place where I have yet to meet racquet customization wizards who can magically create wundersticks for me
6+ hours!?! Why do you even pretend you have injuries, Pman??
My former captain  is omnipresent!
TL is the best and a nut for organizing! She is also a great mixed partner for going undefeated through a season and districts!! She threw a pizza party together on site for the entire tournament after we won!
You should totally play for Mr.!!

    Ummm...sure, why not!

That's no joke...a customer at the store where I'm working part time is a tennis pro, and we got to talking...she asked me if I knew him!

I'm glad I've gotten to know TL a bit more and very happy that shes on my DC team.

Team monkey downs wins again. Downs carries the monkey on his back again. Sprained groin too from too much skinemax and had to run down overheads for him but we are 3-0. Not shabby considering the monkey is playing 3.5 tennis. That means downs is playing 5.0 tennis. Woot!

    Someone made BBQ.

    Someone played tennis

A bunch of people actually played tennis. It seems most won.

Xis ankle still hurts but he to stubborn to stay off it :)

I went to an O's game Saturday and drank 20th camden yards anniversy natty bo's and ate Old Bay sausages.

hot dogs were purchased, along with bottles of Pert Plus.

I drove my Scout yesterday and the steering broke. Had my mom on maothers day take me to autozone to get a replacement part for it. fixed it enough to get it home. Will re-install when I have more time.

Wow. I am hoping my ankle will recover faster than Xi's. That way, I can't say some seasoned player healed faster than a near-seasoned someone who's name will remain anonymous. *sigh*

Running out of patience on my ankle. I am really hoping it'll heal soon. Just got a used EZone Xi 100. Looking forward to hit with it.

Im recovering from a sprained ankle too. Sprained while attempting to play basketball in NIKE tennis shoes. I think i may be able to play this weekend though. Man, i was terrible at hoops. No hops, no moves, and.terrible conditioning! Kinda fun though.

Let me know how the ezone xi plays...100? I tried to go back to head extreme but the strings i put in it feel terrible. Vcore95d still plays very nice tho i would like easier way to hit kicker. Prolly not the racquet tho.

Wuts for lunch? Chengdu kung pao chicken and garlic mustard greens here.

wow. now both Adidas and Nike are on the "watched," list for TWMAC section.
I think the only safe shoes are "NB, Asics, Yonex's." Although I tried to put on a pair of Yonex's before. It's not kind to wide foot folks. Very narrow.

Xi should be here by wednesday. I may put on a new set of strings. It has some pretty good polys in there. But I can't play with polys. It gives me instant shoulder and elbow shakes. Any recommendations? I have such a big inventory of strings: I got the following:
1 set of Mantis Comfort Syn Gut, Comfort Poly, Power Poly, Power Syn Gut
3 sets of Head Rip Control (tmonk says it's good stuff, so got three to try. But it's $8 a pop!)
    2 sets of Prince LTE
2 sets of Prince syn Gut 17g
2 sets of Weiss Cannon Supercharged (Barney Color) (heard good things about it)
1 set of Volkl Cyclone (18g) and Gripper
1 reel of Goldenset Durameld (17g) my fav so far! It has the crispness of a bucket of extra crispy KFC.
1 set of Bab Xcel, Revenge
1 set of el cheesy Forten Sweet 16
2 sets of Pro Supex Ruff 17g (my fav as well. They stop making it, waiting for my dream racquet to come to use on...)
1 set of Prince Beast (one word description: meh...)
2 sets of Dunlop Hexy Fiber 17g (good stuff even though it breaks quick once that outer wrapper starts to fray)

Downs, I'll have what you're having.

    Sup...???

I have some Achilles tenditis issues...have had it for about two weeks. And I wear Nike. I also went 3-1 for my 4 matches this weekend. I'm only slightly in pain. But the pain is more from the one loss. Another one at 3.5 singles = stuck at 3.5 foreveeeeerrrrrrrr.

yep... I like me strings just like my donuts, bbq meats, and hitting partners.
mikeler: Next time you come, you should bring some of them strings, you've made, with you. If it has your endorsement, it's gotta be good.

You know, I haven't! I was thinking I need to replace my insoles but I'll have to have a look at the tread, too.

So, I'll make a prediction, and you'll bet opposite, right?

    Dats,

You watching the Nalby vs Murray match. Looks like Nalby has left team candy cane (vcore) and went back to the RDis paintjob.

Frankly. I have so much lead on the Vcore, while I remember the Rdis was at a good swingweight already. Heard the tours they just came out with are very comparable.

    Tennismonkey,

Are you still with your prince racquet? If true, does that mean the doomsday preppers were correct about 2012.
