Level really doesn't matter in these get-togethers. You just come out & we all hit and have a good time...freezing our a$$es off..

I played at 32 degrees and high winds one time in college. Don't remember anything about the tennis. I do remember the hitting partner and how much beer we drank afterwards!

Way too cold. Under 65 and Sup is done. Ill walk off the court. Instant default. Then again say the words "to the bar"! And I'll default with a match point in hand.

    Mikeler,

Are you coming down for the Sony?

Downs is cray-ier! He used to make me play in the cold for hours until he went through trying all the racquets and prostocks in his bag for the day

I highly doubt it. We are closing on a new pad on April 1. Now that Fed is no longer playing Miami (well at least this year), my motivation has dropped. Guess I waited to long to see "the man" play in person.

    Bad news downs.

Bill & I just played doubles vs. two 5.0 singles players in our Monday night league. I played with the VCORE 310g, and played probably the best doubles of my life. We lost the 1st 2-6, but won the 2nd 6-2 and were 5-all in the 3rd when we ran out of time. I think I'm in love...

sup, what's the word on your contact?

What kind of 5.0s were they? We used to have a 5.0 at our club that would beat the stuffing out of everyone in singles including me. He would stand 10 feet behind the baseline and just hit rolling deep topspin every shot and literally make 1 unforced error per game. Once you put him in a doubles situation though, he was more like a 4.5 because some of those shots get picked off by the net man in doubles.

One plays tons of tournaments, both singles and doubles, but like me he's predominately a singles player. The other is our new teaching pro. Both serve & volley on 1st & 2nd serves, and are proficient at the net, but neither is going to dominate up there. However, neither will miss a service return either, so there's always pressure on our serve. Plus they have killer overheads.

My partner is known for his doubles, and is damn close to a 5.0 doubles player, but he gets exhausted easily (he's the most out-of-shape-fit-looking-person I know). Our opponents are in their early 20s, and we are in our mid 40s, so he was pretty tired come the 3rd set.

It was a fun match with tons of great points.

It is looking like it will be my frame of choice, but I still want to try a couple more just to be 100% certain. I really liked they way it felt around the net. Very maneuverable & solid. Like the X Force Pro, I could really swing away on the return & groundstrokes and feel it would come in. It felt slightly underpowered, but I am also comparing full poly vs gut/poly in the X Force. I think if I went guy/poly in the VCORE it would liven up nicely.

The Dunlop was almost added to my bag this morning. Actually, it was almost added to my credit card, but not to my bag...

I let a friend try it out last night (Ed, the guy you played during the mixed doubles challenge). He set it next to the water cooler when finished, and I forgot to grab it before I left. Luckily for me no one snagged it, and when I called the club this morning it was still on the courts.

    That was close...

So can any of those guys hit drop half volleys off their shoe strings?

BTW, I'm testing out Wilson gut mains with Ytex poly crosses. It seems to be getting better and more comfy as it breaks in.

Ha! No, but one of them hit a lunging stretch half-volley lob right over my partner's head, 2 in from the sideline...on match point!!!

How is that Ytex? I remember reading a thread on it here a while back & checking it out. Which one are you using? ProTour? Pro-Feel?

How handy are you? It can be done but it's also fairly dangerous, those things are under an insane amount of pressure and can deal some serious damage.

Haha, well if you have the tools and are fairly handy you could DIY but if you don't mind paying for it I'd definitely recommend getting a contractor to do it.

Definitely hire a Contractor unless you have had training side by side with an expert.
