Steve McQueen WAS Mr. Cool, from his stint as bounty hunter Josh Randall through his last roles in Tom Horn and The Hunter. His Thomas Crown beat the later version to He!! and back. I do appreciate the compliment, but don't know if I could ever live up to it. You are most kind to make the connection.

BTW, I can see McQueen telling the cameraman in the mug shot "You should see the other guy."

As a co-worker I knew said - "If you're going to ride, you're going to slide. No of matter of IF but WHEN"

Hope the drivers in FL are better than they are in DC....

Wonderful day: Sandy threw out the first pitch, Dodgers shut out the Giants, Kershaw goes deep, and my right hand is wrapped around an ice-cold Guinness. Can't beat Opening Day.

P.S. I predict a Knats-Dudgers NL Championship Series, 7 games, Kershaw vs. Strasburg in Game 7. Winner: Well, you know. :)

I think they said Kershaw was the first pitcher to go yard openening day since like 1988 or something.

As far as predictions go Its easy to pick the Nats. The dodgers have some question marks, but most teams do. Especially NL West teams. Can SF offense carry them long enough to get back in the playoffs. If they get in they are trouble as they proved last year.

I going to say the Reds will be the NL team in the WS.

AL its between Anaheim and Detroit in my mind. And the tigers have the best hitter in the league and the best pitcher in the league. But they need to find some reliable relief arms at some point. Closer by comitee dont cut it.

I say Tigers win WS in 6 over the Reds.

    You heard it here first.

yadda yadda baseball is back? again? how the heck does arod get 30 mil a year and sabathia 34 mil a year?! for comparison kobe "i like to get 30 a night by chucking up 30 shots" gets 27 mil a year and lebron "i'm only the best player and probably most recognizable active sports icon in the world" gets 17 mil a year.

on the other hand that griner chick from baylor is going to be the #1 pick in the wnba. do they have a draft? anyway she is set to make at most 105k a year.

i guess in summary i am shocked that mlb players still make so much money when it's the second or third most popular sport in the u.s. of a.

i'm shocked that the best nba players don't make more money and regular run of the mill players are paid 90% of what a superstar makes.

i'm shocked nfl players are paid so poorly in relation to the mlb and nba.

i'm shocked at how little wnba players make until i think about the fact that the entire league makes no money and is kept afloat by the nba as mostly a PR move and possibly tax breaks..

i don't care about nhl. i am mildly amused that the pretty boy from the pens got his face smushed. go caps?

also here's a fun trailer for a new movie coming out this summer. james franco, emma watson, seth rogan.

I guess Baseball can pay more since they play 200,000 games in a season and have bigger stadiums? Guess there's a bit of prestige in being an owner in of a team?

Doesn't NBA have some sort of salary cap?

NFL teams have like 200 people on them, not surprised there's less money to go around after paying for the 10th string offensive lineman.

    Euro soccer isn't too bad - http://www.forbes.com/sites/afontev...g-lionel-messi-a-raise-after-his-record-year/

Golf has to be the game if you want to get paid and stay in once piece.

I'd like to see a breakdown (piechart) on where the money comes from in from major sports? Is it from advertising? espn? ticket sales? Jerseys and Bobbleheads?

hahaha. i had some coffee this morning and it has finally worn off. i'm good now.

sold my sticks so i'm on the hunt for new sticks that will magically make me 30 pounds lighter, 4 inches taller, allow me to strike the sweetspot every single time and maybe cure cancer too between changeovers.

    suggestions?

Funny you should ask; I found one that does all that and also extenze the length of my, uh, shots to the baseline. But you wouldn't like it; it's an antique, like me, and it's full of Y chromosomes that automatically straighten out slice backhands and turn them into rigid straight arrows, all of which hit the outside of whatever line you aim for. Also provides the tools for a kick serve, but you have to add something to the mix for it to work just right.

Problem is there's only one left in the free world, and I have it. Too bad.

I have a feeling this post was aimed at me for some reason.

    Well Ill play this game.

LeBron is severly underpaid right now. He should probably make like 75 mill a year. But all three of those guys took less than Max to play in MIA.

But to answer you, baseball players make so much becuase they had a players union that stood strong and get a bigger piece of the revenue. Its really as simple as that. Gene Upshaw was a well respected member of the NFL. Becuase he was always advising the players to agree with the NFL he was soft from a player standpoint. Pretty much when the head of the League thinks you are a friend you are not doing your job from the players standpoint.

Billy Hunter just got ousted as head of NBAPA. Cuz he sucked at his job, the NBA players got the shaft.

MLB has tried to screw the players but they didnt let it happen on the same level as the other sports in the USA.

Griner would probably have trouble making a NBA D League team so 105K may be fair or she may actually be overpaid at that price. The only way these chics make money is off endorsements and overseas. Griner look like a dude the endorsements are probably for like that deodant testerone stick they try to sell dude with "Low-T" Well lemme tell you Griner has very High T. Especially for a broad. But she still sucks at BBall.

Will change my DC plans since we have not bought plane tickets yet. Just read the 17 year Cicadas are expected to be out by Memorial Day. When do those suckers typically clear out? Would I be safe heading up there the 2nd week of June?

will it sell out? i'll be back in town next week and will check with one of the enlisted that has some connections for decent seats. i think he said something like $60-70? dunno. seems kinda high for goofy european sport that uses their feet to kick a ball into each other's nut sac for 90mins..

Yeah, $60-$70 sounds about right. I doubt it will sell out, but should have a decent crowd.

I was there for that, too, but wasn't it just 9 years ago? I'm just an old broken down English/History major, but the next 17-year-cicada outbreak should not occur until 2021, right? Just askin'.

I was wondering that myself. Apparently, while they hatch every 13-17 years, there are different 'broods' (that's the term they use), and each 'brood' has it's own cycle.

As it turns out, cicadas are hatching practically every year, but in different places around the country, and in different quantities. According to this site: http://gardenersnet.com/atoz/cicada.htm

The "2013 Cicada infestation is sizable, and will arrive in a number of states this spring. They are: CT, MD, NC, NJ, NY, PA, and VA".

    Yay.

I think cultures treat the cicada as some kind of delicacy. And other places deep fry dem janks.

Just dont kill those hugs wasp looking bees if you see them. they hunt down Cicadas. kill em and fly them back to the nest/burrow. Some get like 2 inches long and look like mini hindenpeters flying around carry those things.

Striker, looks promising! They even have some bball courts there that Dats and I can show off our declining ball skills...hahaha

Dats, Plaka shouldn't be too far from those courts right? Cunningham Park, where a few of us play, is quite close to Plaka as well. I'd be up to chowing down and having a few brews afterwards, if I indeed can get out there...

Got out of deck work but bday parties for the kids on saturday. =( I have to skip for this one. Can we do one on a weekday? =) I'll actually take off that day. Or I can use one of them "5% off my paycheck days," from work.

tmonk: I got them playground/tennis court combo's in front of my place. Let me know if you like it for the next meetup. Only bad thing is that we only have one court.
