I'll be easy to recognize. I'll have a way-overstuffed black and blue Prince bag, and I'll probably be carrying some funky racquet.

Dire, where should we all meet? Just show up at the entrance to the tennis center?

I found an old TAD Imperial woody that I forgot I had. I think I'll be bringing it. If we can get 4 wood frames, we should play a doubles set with wood and post it.

Edit: I should also mention my roommate is going to be there, I believe his sn is "brownbearfalling", but he's in California right now with no internet...

    can I join?

I'm in Shoreline but lived for a year on 65th St & 25th Ave (Ravena). I don't have too many tennis partners in the area (just moved here 1 year ago). I usualy play Thursdays evening and Sunday morning at Medowbrook Park. If you have space for one more guy let me know I can make it tomorrow 6:30pm.

    Yes, we have room.

I was thinking, would it be wise to pick up some name stickers?

If we want to make this a quarterly or monthly event (I'm thinking the most I can do is once every 2 months) we should organize snacks etc.

From the looks of it, this is going to be a pretty successful first outing. I'll try and bring some snacks (cookies or something popular) though no guarantees as I'm trying to get ready to head out of town for a week and I'm stuck at work trying to find my desk. . .

Haha, I don't think the snack part will work well this time, If i have time at my place I'll bring some gummi bears or somthing.

Just so everyone knows, we're still on! IF Midlife sees this beforehand, please shoot an e-mail out to everyone to confirm. I will be waiting at the door from about 6:00-6:30. Midlife, I'm going to shoot you an e-mail with my cell, please send it out with the confirmation e-mail with my name :)

    All, right, you win!

It was a fun night. 12 of us on three courts. It was fun to put a face (and game) with a name. As the (by far) elder statesman, I have to say it was only too common to see someone blast a highlight reel shot clean by me. My back is hurting from doing the "I'm not worthy" bow so many times!

Thanks again to Diredesire for putting this together (no I'm not paying blackmail to not have my oh-so-embarrassing pictures posted!

Yeah, I really had a good time, it was a lot of fun. It was cool playing with a bunch of different frames. Although next time, its time for some weird racquet doubles. I bet it will get ugly real fast.

Midlife, I got passed at the baseline from some of your shots too man, hehe.

That was full of fun. Yeah, put the nick with the name and the game that go with it :) I enjoy every minutes of it. I love trying those early day rackets --> Thanks Midlife. Looking forward to another gathering.

Oh yeah, thanks Diredesire for setting all this up.

I was surprised at how well everyone can hit. Everyone was hitting big serves and solid ground strokes.

Everyone was hitting big groundstrokes/heavy groundstrokes and solid volleys. Yeah everyone has pretty big serves except me :O my triple double fault and then second serve ace on my first game (that was bad) =p. However, I *think* I picked it up haha =s.

    good job

First, many thanks diredesire, you're awsome! I had to leave a little early and I didn't have time to thank you in person so here it goes THANK YOU!

I was too very curios how well people hit, but man I was impressed. There was no one that couldn't play at least 3.5 on a bad day. The funny thing was that so many had 1hbh or was it just my impression :) ( at least on the court I was playing we all had 1hbh).

I have to admit people living in Seattle are nice and this confirmed it, all the people showing up were nice and I had a blast. I hope we can do it again sometime.

BTW if anybody wants to hit in Shoreline let me know :).

Thanks for coming out everyone! It was hard to manage three courts, we didn't get to mix it up as much as I wanted. We'll have to plan a better structure next time.

When I was on your court, I felt left out, I was the only 2HBH! I started hitting some 1HBHs, though ;)

I'll get the pictures up ASAP. The lighting was terrible for some reason (I had the lights on full blast!), so we'll see how they turn out. I bet they're going to be really grainy. I had the shutter speed very fast to capture the action (no blur), but I am guessing they're going to be pretty grainy.

I think Marco caught me whiffing an overhead, but to be fair, it was OUT!

I'll see if I can't encode our video, too. Videos take a lot of work *cough* ;)

Glad you had a blast Dora and find people to be nice/friendly!

bad news, the video is crappy.

The camera at it's widest angle can BARELY capture the court, so the top half players are rarely in the frame (unless they are at the net), and the close players are in the frame about half the time.

I'll post it anyways, but don't expect too much. I'll bring a wider angle adapter lens next time. Looks like we'll have to do this again soon sometime.

I can probably get three courts in one block at some time in the next quarter. We'll have to pay for one, though. I can reserve a court for free, so can my roommate/coworker. Any other student/faculty (like Angelo) can reserve the final court, and we can split the cost for the last court (it'll be like 2 bucks per or something).

Pictures coming up in a few minutes here...

This post reserved for video link

(I will probably post a compressed DIVX format or XVID format, so to view please be sure to have the codec(s) on your computer.

You can download each individually (google DIVX/XVID) or download a codec pack (lots of people like K-lite codec pack, also check google).

I made a down-the-line volley winner behind the netman on that first volley... but my eyes were obviously not following the ball all the way to the strings.

NP guys, next time it looks like I need to turn the other side's lights on just to get a good picture. Most of these were grainy and hard to recover any detail :(

Not bad for a first outing, though. We'll have to try again in the relatively near future :)

By the way, Travelerjam, would you happen to know, or be related to a Steve Marshall in Vancouver, WA? You remind me a lot of him, he used to be my tennis coach.

Did you guys take a group picture? I didn't look through the entire list.

And...the inevitable question everyone is wondering...who is the best?

I think the weekend of Oct. 13 looks good; I've got school off thurs.-sunday that week... and by birthday is the 14th so my parents wouldn't mind driving. I could bring my little brother too, even though he doesn't post on here. He is like a mini-Santoro with his 2hfh and 5'1" frame :p

I guess I'll fit in with my BIVs ;) Seems to be a popular choice with you guys.

Dibs on dressing up as old players + tight white shorts (I know you want to see my sexy theighs) and having a wood frame party =D.

It's hard to choose the best; everyone was hitting extremely well.

Thanks for the pics, I think. . .

I'll echo dora_75 in that it was surprising how many 1hbh's there were. I think there was a time that all four of us on one court were 1hbh, but I don't think there were any lefties! I'll have to bring my son the next time.

I ended up playing most of the time so I didn't get around to trying anything other than my collection of racquets and Trav's cut-down NXG. Next time, I'll have to see if I can sample some of the other cool sticks. I missed out on the Vantage, the PS85, and a number of others I really wanted to try.

By the way, as I was putting my racquets away, I found both a Davis Pro and a Davis Imperial. Along with the Kramer, that's at least three racquets. We'd need only one more for a wood-only doubles match. Next time!

Yeah, next time we go, lets focus on the "fun"/community side of things, and play some wood frames, demo new racquets, etc. We'll make a conscious effort to rotate people through and get fresh blood in!

I promise I'll have better stamina, too. I just moved all my stuff the day before :( (excuses, I know).

I'm uploading the video as we speak, so expect a link tomorrow!

(If anyone has any good hosts, please let me know, I'd enjoy 2-3 mirrors)
