blackfrido looks suspiciously like Javier Sergio. Long lost twin?
I always make you look good
He forgot to take his vitamins today and had to seat for a while
Oh yeah. Forgot about all of those. He took so many of those, my battery ran out when I was deleting them.
He does, doesn't he?? LOL. He changed his username
Yes you do. How did you like the photo I took of you from behind. LMAO!
whatever rocks your boat, but i dont play in THAT team:twisted:
A few buddies and I are looking to find someone to play with during the Sony Ericsson Open from Mar. 27th-30th. Here's a link to the thread I made in the Tennis Travel forum.
Oh yeah and we'll play doubles or singles or whatever other types of tennis you play .
What have you done with the real Javier Sergio?
Intimidated by Oscar's game decided not to play any longer!
I took a lot too, I don't know where they are?
Excellent pictures! Very nice shots of our dear Oscar
LMAO about drop shots NOT counting as aces....hahahahaha
That's what I thought too Klatu...glad I'm not seeing things:shock:
Thanks for posting them Drak....
Blows kisses to all the "manly men" of SF
Hi guys - just saw this thread - thought you may be able to help - I will be in Miami Beach from the 13th to the 16th. A couple of questions - are there any public courts in Miami Beach to play at? I was going to play with a friend who is coming down with me. Is there any public transportation from Miami Beach to Key Biscayne to play at the courts there?
It was an awesome serve!
I actually heard it rolled past the service line!!!
whatever, it was a great serve
The truth is that i was blinded by Oscars florecent green shirt i didnt see the ball until it was rolling by the service line
^^^^me too. That is **THE** brightest shirt I have ever seen. It was about 20-30 degrees hotter standing next to oscar because of the suns reflection off the shirt.
Vince, I can't hit friday. How does thursday sound???
Thursday sounds good i hope he doesnt wear it when we play tonight im sure the lights are gonna reflect off that shirt and cause some type of permanent damage to my eye sight
^^^^ LOL. Make sure you wear your welding goggles.
vince, I lost your number, could you email it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org??
Also, the frame I was talking to you about today is the Head Pro Tour 630.
Hey everyone long time! How is the SF chapter holding up?
Off topic, but is it true that in Florida, the USTA rating is bit lower like USTA 5.0 guy in Florida would be rated USTA 4.5 or even 4.0 in Illinois or in Southern Cal. I met this guy from Boca Raton and he told me that he plays 4.5 or 5.0 leagues in florida and got to hit with him a bit and he would be rated a good 4.0 or low level 4.5 in Illinois or California.:???:
If anything, I would think it's the other way around
where have you been?
My limited experience of the Florida scene is that the 4.5's are a little weaker than the better 4.5's in the mid-atlantic.
But my experience is limited to one tournament where I played the 1, 2 and 5 ranked players in the Florida 4.5 2007 year end rankings.
Maybe league play is different.
Working and just took a vacation. I need to hit some balls, I havent played in weeks.
Whats everyone doing this weekend?
I tried reaching you to meet up with us this weekend. Hope everything is well. We are going to set up another meet in the next few weeks.
It really depends who you talk to from around the country. Moz states the mid atlantic has stronger 4.5's than Florida. Sup states the opposite. As for this guy you hit with who is a 5.0... I could tell you there ain't many, if any 5.0 leagues around. So he could have been stretching the truth.
A quick look at the USTA rankings right now revealed the following:
In the 30’s age group:
Florida has 5 in the top 20, and 23 in the top 100.
California has 1 in the top 20, and 14 in the top 100.
Illinois has zero in the top 20 and zero in the top 100.
In the 35’s age group:
Florida has 3 in the top 20, and 12 in the top 100.
California has 4 in the top 20, and 15 in the top 100.
Illinois has zero in the top 20 and two in the top 100.
In the 40's age group:
Florida has 4 in the top 20, and 14 in the top 100.
California has 9 in the top 20, and 36 in the top 100.
Illinois has zero in the top 20 and zero in the top 100.
The weakest of the 3 is without doubt Illinois. Florida is better in the 30's and 35's age group. California has a strangle hold on the 40's age group.
Interesting stats Drak - they are perhaps distorted by the location of the cat 1 and 2 tournaments? Also by the fact that highly ranked players will often be located around other high ranking players. This is certainly less of a factor as 4.5's aren't good enough to consider changing location for tennis.
A comparison of league performance in sectionals and nationals may be more accurate - although that may just identify where all the cheats live!!!
I would be interested to hear Sup's reasoning behind that.
Could you post this information? I coudln't find it on the USTA website.
I think Moz brings up a good point...you guys have tournaments coming out of your ears down there. The last tournament I signed up for, in women's 30s, I was the only one who signed up! I checked that same month in Region 8 in Florida, and found multiple tournaments that I would have been eligble to play...er, get my butt kicked in.
Personally, I think that would be remedied in our section if the MAS stopped giving the tournaments to the same little club in the hood of Baltimore and moved some of them down to NOVA, but then again, I'm *really* biased!
The real question is...how are your 3.5s?!?
It isn't easy to get to...go under leagues and see if they have any links to nationals. Sectionals would take even longer to track down. I'll see if I can find the national stuff...brb!
My opinion is no matter what level of play, one should fear players from Florida or California in the draw. They had more months in the year playing and better players for practice partners.
Granted Mid-Atlantic doe have high quality middle tier players. If you stacked the average against Florida, Florida would win. They just have more resources. If I lived in Drak's community. I would be hitting with Carlos constantly, year long, and get better.
Just a matter of nature vs. nuture. Florida nutures better players, Mid-Atlantic just has better middle tier players by nature. We have to survive with little to no practice.
Look at the constant champions. Oren, Carlos, Andy.. etc. All from warmer climates.
Here's the report on the USTA site.
It's a bit convoluted to post and it's near my bed time!!!
Sup - I agree intellectually with that, it just wasn't my experience.
Then again, I don't even know what the average NTRP tournament player would be like in the mid-atlantic because there are never enough entrants to the draws!
Oh wow...that wasn't the link that I found...this one is much better!
Jeez, like I don't spend enough time on Tennislink as it is!
Moz, thanks for the link. Topaz, thanks for the explanation. It is so effen hard to navigate thru the USTA's website.
Sup, nice breakdown. One thing I want to point out is there are **A LOT** of players in Florida that don't even play leagues or tourneys anymore. They just hit with friends once a week, etc. I'm sure the same holds true everywhere else, however, I would estimate there are far more of these players in places like Cali, Florida, and Texas, than in other parts of the country.
In my lcub alone there are around a dozen of these players who were top juniors/college/satellite players.
BTW, sup, have you completed the specs on the MG Mid????
Man! I just got home from happy hour *burp*. Why you busting my chops *burp*.
I mean.. if Moz isn't going to drink *burp*.. someone has too.. oh look a pink elephant.. *burp*.
I'll get on it as soon as i can.. *salute*.
Buddy, if you are going to drink both of our shares you better head out for round 2 in the next 30 mins. I have a vicarious thirst!
I started at 4pm.. non-stop until about 15 minutes ago. I just opened a beer (Peroni). I may be in denail though about the fortitude of you drinking abilities!
I can't handle the truth Moz!
it's a good effort for a wednesday, but we need more from you.
If not alcohol, a booty call to some poor woman.
I agree with Moz. Sup you are dissapointing all of us.
Ah, yes disappointing, like.. going from the dinner.. straight to home.. and going to sleep, instead of the bars.. .wait.. wait.. that wasnt me .. was it DRAK!?
I had enough beers to even satisfy the OLD moz..
P.S. Have a safe birthday celebration.. and don't make Topaz too jealous.
Shhhhhhh.....Sup called me...over and over and over and over
Did you succumb to the booty call?
Happy Birthday Drakulie
Happy birthday buddy. Try not getting into too much trouble celebrating tonight.
That song is banned in Thailand! When I went there though it kept getting stuck in my head...
Really? Wow...well, I do love that musical, though. Mostly because I can sing all the female roles!
SFTCH guys, are you going any day to the BMW open (Sunrise) next week?
