Did you see him last night? Wow! I'm really starting to enjoy Gael ... He won these points and many more for the victory

I don't mind the slam dunk, but nice forehand.

He's quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite players! He's getting so much better, more consistent, more serious about his work on court...it's so good to see from such a talented and obviously athletic guy. Apparently he's a nice guy off court, too.

    Vamos Monfils!!!!:)

Hah. Missed the best ones, where he pretended the point was over and did this 'ole' underhanded crap(two different points) and the totally pointless between the legs half-volley at 5-1 in the tiebreak.

Those were definitely interesting moments .... but I missed getting screen caps on them ... i started feeling sorry for dimitrov after a while cuz even after he stepped up his effort, he ended up in some very awkward positions: once he ran into the crowd and sat down to take a little break, and once he ended up on his knees, with the ball whizzing over his head!

I loved the aggressiveness he showed. He was playing smart, strategic, attacking tennis for the most part, and not just pushing, defensive style he falls into way too much.

Yeah, he's having a great hard court season since the split. It's interesting that he's playing better without really having a full time coach at the moment.

I saw him live earlier this month in DC, loads of fun to watch in person and really nice that he's getting more aggressive with his shots.

He's got power to spare when he chooses to use it plus he runs every ball down on defense: great combo.

Even though he does some ridiculous things that are probably detrimental to his game, it's entertaining. I think tennis needs that.

He needs to mix that in with actual winning tennis.

Athleticism second to none, showmanship beyond belief, intelligence of a potted plant.

That is true. I just like him for his pure entertainment value. If he put it all together and got really serious, he would be amazing. His brain just ain't always there.

I used to think that, too

but since his split from rasheed it seems to me he's winning more.

for instance, does anyone know the end of that coaching relationship compared to when monfils became world no. 7??????

He doesn't win when it counts though. He loses in finals, and has REALLY dumb losses.

    That's his own head.

Touch of class from Monfils to applaud Ferrero for his effort after losing.

    absolutely! :) true class ...
personally, I've never before seen the losing player drop his racket and applaud his opponent as they approach the handshake at the net! how cool was that on gael's 25th bDay? :D

Only Monfils can lose a match and look good doing it. Hope he's around for a few more years. Ferrero must have played quite well for Gael to applaud him.

he only gets the points when his theatrics produce a winning shot ... which is a lot of the time! :p

This was the best match so far in a lacklustre day at USO thank heavens for those two who gave their all for tennis. The rest was deadly dull

Yep, I was excited to see so many good names playing, but in the end the other matches were terribly boring and I completely enjoyed watching this match. I too am beginning to appreciate Monfils more and more, and hope to see more of him in the future.

And I remember Ferrero playing good tennis 10+ years ago and yet can still pull out a performance like this. Way to go!

it was a great example of players with opposite styles of play, each sparking moments of riveting entertainment.

in fact, when the players came to their respective baselines, Ferrero to serve for the match 5-4, the crowd gave them a standing ovation that lasted for a significant time, thanking them in advance for their excellent efforts! :)

He's really fun to watch.. but diving on a hard court? He probably should wear some protective gear.

You are making him way too old. JC Ferrero peaked 8 years ago exactly, at the same time as Andy Roddick, he won his slam in 2003 and was ranked as number 1 the same year.
