So I play this guy last Sunday. He's about 21 to 24 or something....At any rate, the guy is bringing serious octane...surpreme unleaded first and second serve. :) the first set was over quick(6 1). So the second set starts and I'm able now to get some serves back into play and actually break the guy twice...problem was I got broke twice as well. At 5 all in the second he starts serving ever bigger bombs. 3 times I had to go get balls out of the fence that he had served. I mean I had to reach over my head to get them out of the fence. So he beats me like 7-5 in the tie break. He must have served up like 4 aces in the tie break and I'm really good at returning serve. I was able to disrupt him a little by slicing balls back but many of his rally balls would jump over my head if I didn't catch them early. To add insult to injury...my teammates whom I thought were going to be pi$$ed about me losing were like..."look the guy was probably on Ga tech's team". I was too busy trying to guess where the serve was going...I never saw his shirt that said "Ga Tech tennis club"....which could mean anything. I didn't really care. My job was to beat whoever showed up. I don't get caught up in complaining because I lost. I just wonder sometime why do people get upset when they lose to someone because they were better. I actually hope to get to play him again in the playoffs if we make it that far. :) He is the real deal so to all the other 4.0 players in atl...if you run into "Asim"....be prepared to play with your arms over your head. :)

    Is Asim a self-rated or computer-rated 4.0?

Georgia Tech tennis club means he plays club tennis for GT, not varsity. That's why he can rate at 4.0. Varsity would be 5.5 minimum. We have had club tennis players come through here, mostly from Penn State. They're typically better suited for 4.5, but whatever, if you enjoyed the competition, then good for you. There's a Villanova club guy on the team I am playing tomorrow that's a misrated 4.5 playing 4.0. I'm looking forward to possibly playing him.

I have no Idea. I don't look that kind of stuff up. He may be...if so...he just got a strike. :) I'm bench mark.

Just because a guy has a big serve, doesnt mean he shouldnt be 4.0. You broke him twice on his serve, so it wasnt like he was completely dominant on his groundies.
    Sounds like he's rated correctly.

Yea, that is what I figured is why I didn't put much stock in it and start calling the head office of USTA like so many others have done even myself after I've beaten them. I honestly can see why he's playing 4.0. He'd spray balls off the fence if you got into a 4 or 5 ball ralley with him. I would imagine a descent GA tech player would have me off the court in 30 minutes. For what his serve was I managed to break him twice in the second by slicing returns back deep and keeping him out of the service box. I was okay with it. If anything he got the win but the match actually gave me a lot of confidence going into the 40 year old league. :) I'm not going to have to deal with that **** anymore. That's not to say I won't get smoked by some 40 year olds, but that serving was unreal. I should have known something was up when I saw he was the only guy of color on the team as well as he was about a 3rd of the age of the other guys. :)

Yep...and that's why I said he's the best 4.0 I've faced in atl. I don't normally get caught up in anyone's serve and how big it is. I think it's the most overated shot in tennis. Don't get me wrong, it was clearly the difference in "this" match, but I he did waver just a bit on ground strokes and had we gotten to a 3rd set it would have been interesting. I hadn't used a ton of energy and the balls had gotten where they weren't jumping as high so I could get the serve back when I guessed right. :) I will add though that I've taken my share of 4.5's down. I took down what was then the number 4 rated 4.5 ga player down in a tourney where he was playing 4.0 because there were no 4.5's. :) So once we get passed getting your serve back into play, I'm more than capable of holding my own in rallies with good 4.5's. :)

this whole thread sounds like a humble brag. i held my own versus the greatest 4.0 i've ever seen. serving lightning bolts. broke him twice. went to a tiebreak and he barely won. yadda yadda yadda.

i guess by the transitive property that makes you the second best 4.0 you've ever seen in the ATL.

^^ lol, this is what I thought too.
And most likely, he won't generate a strike for beating you 6-1, 7-5. . . unless of course you truly are the 2nd best 4.0 in ATL.

I know Asim as he is a regular at The Dekalb Tennis Center Round Robins. I think that 4.0 is the right rating for him- he is player who has great days where everything goes in to other days where everything ends up out. He is friends with a couple AA1 guys and I think they hit a ton so if you just try and hit the ball hard at him then you are just toast as pace doesn't faze him at all.

I looked him up, he's a benchmark 4.0 too so no strike for him. It isn't that hard to find someone using TennisLink given the clues you supplied. He went to 3.5 state last year and subsequently got bumped to 4.0 and benchmarked.

It is odd that you think he's the best 4.0 you've faced since you've had worse scores against other 4.0s.

It is what it is...actually I'm the best 4.0 in chattanooga. :) I don't know where I fit in atl. I clearly said I he was the best 4.0 "Ive" played in atl. I said nothing about him being the best in atl or me being the second best. Maybe you need to reread the title and the post with it. He was serving gas first and second serve. I got run off the court in the first and I came within two points of taking the second at 5-6. It is what it is.

No, he won't generate a strike because he's bench mark...but the way a usta official explained it to me is whenever a self rated player comes out and beats like 3 bench mark players, they are dq'ed. That may or may not be the case but that's what a spokeswoman from the usta told me. I wish I could find the email. She may or may not have known what she was talking about. It's doesn't make a difference as he's bench mark as well.

Don't know about that....the second set was actually 7-6. but again...it is what it is. He plays well.

Damn...are you all on the rag or what? Where did it say that he's the best I've faced. I said atl for a reason...but I guess if you want to biotch and complain it's not hard to make an argument using statements that I never made huh. 3.5 my @$$. I doubt he just started serving and playing like that this summer. :)

Project much? Hit a sensitive spot in your vag? It doesn't sound like the people responding to you are the ones on the rag.

You got that right. I do think the changing of pace did bother him to some degree though. I mean when i could manage to have a 4 or 5 ball rally with him and change the pace, he would take and hit forehands off the fence, but straight pace was not doing it. he's too fast for that. He managed to get on top of the point in most of the rallies and thus I ended up at his mercy in many points. :)

O...and like I said...I don't do all the research some of you do because when the balls get tossed up, none of that means anything. Ask Rafa about stats and rankings....lol. Reading a bunch of stats doesn't really help with determining much.

No, I was just being a smart@$$ the same way they were. Rather than have a discussion, some wanted to go on attack and I don't mind that at all. I can do the same. :)

If he is the best 4.0 that YOU have seen........you would not be getting 5 games off of him in a set.......more like a 1-2 loss

Well, not to brag, but a guy I played last month just beat Nadal at Wimbledon.

So, uh, what were you saying now?

Not really. I attribute the second set more to the fact the balls had lost some of their punch as well as I'm not a push over now. :) I have taken some @$$ whippings at 1 and 2 and they have lasted longer than that match. I've lost a match 1 and 2 before where I played 2 plus hours where I lost a lot of games that were deuce or I had ad and still lost the game. So a 1 and 2 score doesn't really mean anything.

Dude...that is what kept me in the second set. That's all you can do when you have a one hand backhand and the balls are up over your shoulder. :) I sent some guys to the hospital back in the day with the slice...so trust me...I do know how to do that. I still got beat. I don't know about a greek god but I can give a guy credit where do. I'm sure sooner or later I will run into one better than him as I will continue to play there. It's the tennis mecca of the world for adult tennis from what I can tell. At any given time they have upwards of 70,000 playing. So you see all kinds of players. It's actually a lot of fun. Taking an @$$whipping every now and then is not so bad. It actually makes the wins that more enjoyable. :)

Wow....sounds like you know what it's like to take an @$$whipping then to huh. :) Lemme guess...the guy and Nadal are at Wimbledon now. :)
