What does everybody think of this shot. It was huge weapon for him in the Delpo match. His backswing looked a little more elaborate than a lot of the other top ATP guys to me. It looked like he had the racket face back behind the other side of his body, kind of like Soderling. What does everyone think of his technique on the forehand side?

Well, he did play very well (not gonna state the result here).

I also noticed how big his backswing was. Do you think it was also early? I didn't see enough of the match to judge/remember that.

What it shows is that modern players hit their forehand in a variety of ways, and this variety (and variety in all aspects of the game) should be encouraged. Otherwise there will be one forehand, and zero spectators, hence zero money.

Excellent technique, imho. It sure was a very effective shot against Delpo.

He hits a very big forehand and takes the racket head back behind his shoulders. He closes it to the ground (sort of patting the dog behind the back) more than Soderling and then brings it around and hits heavy topspin.

It's a big weapon and he hits a lot of pace off that side. In a match against Murray, I saw a statistic that he was averaging over 80mph on his forehand and Murray's average forehand was in the 60mph range.

Ridiculous take back on this forehand, only works on balls that you have a lot of time to set up for?

Let's see, we've heard from "The Meat" in this thread. We've heard from "The Cheese". Now if we can just get "The Bread" and "The Mayo" to chime in we'd have all the fixins for a delicious sandwich.
