# the correct tension on a drop weight

hey guys well i just bought the eagnas hawk 20 off a member here. and i had a question about it.

when setting the desired tension do you look at the top or the bottom? what side is the weight suppose to be on?

like in the manual here: http://www.eagnas.com/maxgen/griprach.html#RATCHOP

it shows the smaller portion of the weight on the top.

but on the pictures provided:

it shows the smaller portion on the bottom.

so which side is right side up and where should i set the correct tension by looking (top or bottom).

i guess by theory it shouldn't matter if the weight is upside down or not.

Yeah, it doesn't matter where the top or bottom portions of the weight are, they are just weight.

I've always slid the weight so its to the right of the number, meaning the left side of the weight is on the hash mark for the desired tension.

I have used a drop weight machine, EAGNAS, for 13 years. I have always set the weight to the right of the desired tension. In otherwords, if the drop arm is in the parallel position, the left end of the weight would be on the desired tension mark. I recently played around with tension (+/- 5 pounds) and ended up back to my original tension. I was experimenting with stringing at a lower tension. If I had set my tension with the other end of the weight, that would be a difference of 18 pounds based on the length of the weight. I know that I haven't been stringing my rackets at 80lbs. My preferred tension is 62. I use a mid size frame. I hope this helps clarify the question.

I agree with McLovin (love that screen name) and Onehander.

Set the tension using the face of the weight that is closest to the gripper.

Does not matter if big weight or small weight is on top or bottom.
