For nearly a decade no player was able to win the FO as the world No.1. Federer failed in all 4 attempts. Nadal did not get pass the 4th round the first time he played as the world No.1. Gustavo Kuerten was the last player to win Roland Garros as the world No.1, in 2001.

For all the nay sayers, it is much harder to win the career slam in the open era than when 3 slams were all played on the same surface -grass. With 14 slams (including the career grand slam) and counting, Federer is definitely the greatest ever of the open era if not all time. But I think his records speak for themselves, Roger Federer IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

    CONGRATULATIONS ROGER! VAMOS!

He can now win slams more freely without all the pressure. Sampras won his 14th at age 31, Federer is 27, go figure!

^I don't think so. Like Agassi after 1999, Fed won't win another FO....

IMO Federer is a better clay court player than Agassi. 4 straight FO finals speaks for itself.

Well, I think if he wins more slams it will be where he has dominated, that is Wimbedon and USO.

That is true. But I think he has an equal chance of winning one more FO as well as AO.

Before Guga in 01, I think the last time was Courier in 92; before that was Lendl in 87.

Fed will not win the French next year, #1 or not.

On paper, yes, but he had EVERYTHING go his way this year and barely made it to the final...kudos to him for doing so.

Hard to see it happening for 2 straight years...I'd favor Del Potro and Nadal over Fed on clay.
